No, X is a poorly paced "remix" of 2. While the transformations are cool the enemy placement was more about what would be challenging to fight rather than what makes sense thematically.

Part of the allure of the series to me was how as each level progressed it got more and more absurd but still 'made sense', X kind of throws that out the window.

Also Slowdown is the best part.

You can also play a nice tonk in Broforce though, there is Tank Girl parody you know.

MS6 isn't emulated well on mame because it's on Sega NAOMI, so you either use demul for it or you play the ps2 port

I love the Metal Slug games, but does the main character even have a recognizable name? I feel like if he's announced as a fighter in Smash, my immediate reaction will be "Who?!" And that unfortunately is how I feel about any SNK rep, and that's not to say that SNK isn't a good developer. They're fantastic, but they've never really had a character that stood out as an iconic video game character if that makes any sense.

A lot of dumps got invalidated by the ROM verification, most things uploaded to the MAME or Arcade sections of rom sites don't work on MAME now. I played Marco the handful of times I played Neo Geo Battle Coliseum though; I ran with him and Haohmaru my eternal SamSho main (until the new one; Darli a best). No better time than now to try it out. If the rep is Terry or Haohmaru or Kyo then I hope there's a fighting game ROMdump thread. SamSho II was one of the first fighting games I really loved, after Tekken 3 & Tag.

I got that standalone Rondo .exe that spliced some of the PSP features into the original game back when Richter got confirmed and I'm glad I did; I had played Classicvania before but not Rondo and yet it's my favorite of the bunch now.

The PS1 version has fewer animation sprites and lots of pixellated stuff to make the thing playable.

The music is also worse, but it has combat school.

I remember playing Metal Slug 3 at my local roller rink growing up and Metal Slug 2 at the bowling alley. After getting Banjo-Kazooie, I'm content with the roster as it is but a Metal Slug rep would be an unironic kick-ass addition that I always figured was way too unlikely. I wonder if they would use Mii Gunner as a base for them, since their F-Smash and uair are already a close 1-to-1 of what I imagine the heavy machine gun would feel like.

neogeo games shouldn't be an issue because they were all dumped and verified years ago

some games still don't have perfect rom dumps and may have errors that impact gameplay. it's due to how MAME emulates hardware - it doesn't see games as singular rom files like game consoles do. every memory chip on the board has separate rom file, and more rom files can be added or modified the more developers know about the hardware.

FBA is ZSNES of arcade emulation.

metal slug was pretty cool, my brother and i used to play it when our family went on summer vacation to italy and they had arcade halls there with this game. good memories.

horde grenades to speedrun tough bosses

Sometimes is better to get out of the slug you are in because of the invincibility frames you get.

don't grab every weapon you find and don't shoot like crazy, try to save ammo every once in a while
also dont jump all the time or you're gonna get killed by random grenades and bullets
use grenades
when you're on a vehicle, be sure to abuse the i-frames when you jump outta the machine
and most importantly, practice every stage before doing a full run, and try not to abuse infinite continues (give yourself 5 continues).

It's the difficulty level.
Level 4 is the default level.

It's an arcade game, a 1cc is about 20 minutes in MS1

a ms game can be beaten in 40 or so minutes (they're usually 5 or six stages long).
That level thing is the difficulty.

The PSP one has the least amount of input lag, yes. The ACA ones are perfectly fine, but you'll be missing 6 and XX.

Metaru Suruggu was the first think I jumped to when I heard SNK. I think we need Bub and Bob now too, too bad Taito is owned by Square Enix.

2.5d is fine, just need a developer who will do it justice, it's going to be shit either way.
