Does anybody play The Sims 3 or similar sorts of simulation games to replace certain aspects of your real life, or perhaps even fill in ones that do not yet exist? As a solitary 30 year old man living on the edge of a wilderness, it can be therapeutic, at times. I don't have a lot of the stuff that the game allows one to do, so I use the game to play along in pretend scenarios.
Does anybody play The Sims 3 or similar sorts of simulation games to replace certain aspects of your real life...
plenty of people do
>sims 4 getting a magic expansion already
So it's finally over
i used to just self insert and make my life the way i wanted it, blew around 400 hours on it after awhile i realised just how depressing it is to do it so now i use it as a porn game
I said it once before and I'll say it again
>Take supernatural
>And split each life state into $20 packs
G E N I U S
I don't have a space age computer to run sims 3
Sims 3 is better than Sims 4
it's such a shame how they took a step back from open worlds and big lots
also the building was way more awesome
How can you go from this
Agreed but sims were uglier in 3
to this
If I let my sim alone in game he does the exact same as me IRL. Even my cat.
LMAOOO
this shit had me thinking my game was glitched at first
Gameplay > the looks of your retarded dollhouse puppets
To run on toasters which is what the target audience has
becauser sims 3 is unplayable due to running like absolute dogshit
Best part is that's one of the bigger maps.
I love Sims 3 don't get me wrong but the memory leaks make it unplayable
Works fine on my PC.
Let me guess you installed all expansions + mods on a mechanical hard drive?
try putting it on an SSD and use NRAAS
i only ever played sims for build mode
youtube.com
i hate how much 4 looks and feels like a facebook game
I even deleted all the houses but mine, ran like ass with all expansions and tons of mods
I have toaster. I can run The Sims 3 without many issues besides load times because I don't have an SSD. The Sims 4 is unplayable for me.
The notion Sims 3 needs a supercomputer but Sims 4 will run on a toaster is complete and utter horse shit. The reverse is closer to being true.
It's what 5 will be in the end
>tfw having a 64x64 lot in Bridgeport with 20 modded cars parked in front of your door, swimming pools and actually basements and terraforming
Sims 4 is so fucking soulless
this + fps limit, floormap bugs, and bad npc management made it unplayable
>thinking and ssd fix iys problems
No, only omega faggots feel sorry about anything in their lives
Sims 3 ran great at the start but the more I played the shittier it became to run because of memory leaks
I hated how some days I could play Sims 3 for 4 hours after I got in from work, run buttery smooth and be really fun, then the next day, despite being in the same condition, run like shit, cap at 10-20 frames and crash every 20 minutes.
2 is apex soul + gameplay
biased for nostalgiafaggotry reasons
there is a trick to avoid this involving deleting the cache files
I don't understand how people still like 4 more. The only complaints I ever hear is about the graphics and how much resources. I feel like the people that don't know that mods exist and that it's not 2009 anymore. My computer is complete garbage but even I ran Sims 3 smoothly with a million mods. I would playing it right now if my computer didn't overheat and shutdown so easily.
But user it does.
Sims3 only has long load times but once the game is running you don't have load times anymore.
Would you rather:
1) Wait 10 minutes and be able to play non-stop
2) Wait 1 minute but be very limited in gameplay and dont even have open worlds or want to watch loading screens when visiting the neighbours
That's the opposite of my experience. 4 runs smooth except when loading new areas, 3 is a slideshow no matter what I try. Why, I don't bloody know. Witchcraft may be involved.
Man, it's fun wandering the city streets as a hobo, sleeping on park benches, mooching money off the pedestrians and residents. Can't do that in 4 with it's hilariously tiny maps and loading screens.
Based nostalgiafag
Any way to fix that shit as it keep happening to me too
I also did that and barely helped
4 at least has basements now, and less of a limit on them than 3. I have both installed since they fill different niches for me. Some shit in 4 is very good and going back to 3 does make me miss little things like being able to talk to multiple sims at once and talk while doing other shit.
Too bad all sims look Brazilian
They got better after Late Night. Way better than the overly happy sims in sims 4.
Sims 3 is infamous for memory leaks and random lag that community leaders and devs insist "dont exist". Its one of those games that could stutter the entire 3 hour play session some days and run as if you had 64gb of ram and the parts to match it.
Yeah it also gave the option to make the tits bigger
They were too pointy for my liking not gonna lie
>Sims 3 is infamous for memory leaks and random lag that community leaders and devs insist "dont exist".
Bullshit. Nobody denies Sims 3's problems. Not even the devs who have flat out said on numerous occasions the engine was not built to scale up to the degree they did. The fucking launcher itself will recommend no more than three expansions because stability is affected. It's actually being massively conservative about that but the notion everyone denies the problems is utter horse shit.
I installed it after my dnd game went under a year ago and was very attached to my elf wizard, i actually really love this game even if it runs like total ass
it helps but not fixes it all
sims 4 + all expansions loads way faster than expansionless sims 3, and.its not fair
I have both in my ssd
I really love sims 3 but its bugs and lack of body mods are a letdown
yes, I download dozens of random female "simselfs" from the exchange (girls who uploaded their own self insert sims) and fill a town with them then make it my goal to impregnate them all with my own self insert
its pretty great its like you're really having sex with them
Play the Sims 4
Yes, I roleplay a medieval town and openend a brothel in it. I even installed some infectious diseases, but I haven't really felt motivated to keep playing it lately.
>not running sims 3 on a ramdisk
never gonna make it
Couldn't keep playing Bridgeport because sims would get stuck in the stupid elevator shafts and slow down the whole game (fuck maxis and their shitty routing). I got bored of resetting them manually every 5 minutes, nevermind the shitty performance.
nahh, not everything needs to be porn gamer
But I am with the violence mod installed
what map is this?
Glennborough. It can be a bit performance heavy because it uses a lot of modded assets and the houses are very close but the routing in it is one of the best I've ever seen. Nearly flawless.
>Not making yourself and your waifu to use with these mods instead
Sims 2 is the best Sims game
I prefer watching
fuck off cuck
Bridgeport... home.
post your favorite songs
Sims 3 taking ages to start is what's stopping me from uninstalling Sims 4 and installing Sims 3 instead.
>Couldn't keep playing Bridgeport because sims would get stuck in the stupid elevator shafts and slow down the whole game
It's not the elevators. It's the hidden room markers. These are used to designate NPC doors but the problem is if a sim gets inside a hidden room area they can't get out, the doors don't work. It was a pain in the ass to do but I went through all the high rises in Bridgeport removing the hidden room markers and replacing the doors and that pretty much completely fixed the world for me. Never had any stuck sims or lag issues since.
guess i better move the fuck out of bridgeport
Sims 3 has a ton of bloat, and doesn't use multi-core processing to deal with any of it. I had pic related, and while it's dated it's still considered a beat of a rig, and sims 3 runs like ass with constant freeze-ups and lag. Which is a shame because I do like 3 more than 4 as a game. But I do like 4's ability to grab whole rooms and move them around, stretch walls to make rooms bigger, etc.
>instead of making a real open for business successor for any later game they just add the barebones shop mechanics meanwhile dedicate entire packs to fluffy bullshit like laundry or set piece pack #2418
fucking faggots
adding a business sim to a life sim is a great idea and actually adds gameplay
oh right these arent simulation games anymore my mistake
youtube.com
so happy it makes me sad
>so happy it makes me sad
you could say that about the entire game
I don't know how to play these games. In theory a dollhouse game sounds fucking amazing but I just have zero interest in watching characters' hunger and pee meters and watching them go to work plus I hate the point-and-click gameplay, so every time I launch any TS game it's
>create new household with some "clever" and "interesting" theme
>fuck around with cheats superpowers
>hit on grim reaper
>kidnap neighbours
>fuck someone's wife
>close game
>never play the same family again
I can't handle it, just give me Animal Crossing with customizable neighborhoods and the terrible anti-Nintendo R18 adult themes such as marriage and someone getting angry at you when you treat them badly
Thats what Koikatsu and HS2 are for amigo
My toaster runs it perfectly except for making the fan go really fast and causing my computer to shut off. My even older toaster, a 2010/11 Snoy laptop, ran it even better. It quite literally works on my machine ;)
>fluffy bullshit like laundry
Reminder EA gave the fanbase a poll to decide what the next pack would be and laundry literally won.
>sims 3 runs like ass with constant freeze-ups and lag
With that rig? That smokes mine and I was not dealing with constant freeze-ups and lag. Constant freeze-ups and lag almost always means there's something very specific wrong somewhere, e.g. a sim is stuck and spamming routing calculations, and it needs to be dealt with otherwise it's not going to stop. That sort of shit should be a relatively rare occurrence. There are some problem worlds, e.g. Bridgeport and especially Isla Paradiso, but if you are having performance problems with Sunset Valley, for example, even if you have all expansion installed then something else is wrong. Probably a mod or something.
I'm not sure if this is common knowledge but TS3 has no framerate limit as it doesn't recognize most modern GPU's. You need to manually set a limit or it'll be rendering fucking 800 frames per second and frying your computer. I got this terrible whine from my GPU fans and then my PC shut down the first time I booted TS3
Shes cute!
>e.g. a sim is stuck and spamming routing calculations
If you're lucky. My game got really laggy all of a sudden. I only realised it was some random mod's fault after I moved out like half my modlist. The scary thing is it can even be minor mods like simple clothing that are corrupt and cause stuttering.
I don't remember if I ever did anything about the framerate limit. I'm not having that problem though, it's not specifically Sims 3 shutting my computer off. It's sort of a hardware issue because my piece of shit is slowly dying. The mere bootup of this game and and many others that I used to be able to play cause my computer to shut off now. Same happens with Sims 4 but last time I played that I was actually able to play for a few minutes before it shut off.
I'm guessing you're only running vanilla version with no mods or expansion packs. Sims 3 runs like complete shit and the load times are atrocious even with an ssd. And don't tell me to delete my CCs, I need CC to make the sims look less shit.
If 100% load on your GPU causes your computer to automatically shut down then you have cooling issues. A GPU doesn't get overwhelmed by high framerates. Load is all it cares about. There's no different to it between rendering Sims 3 at 1000fps and the latest AAA release at 60fps if both result in the same 100% load.
>I'm guessing you're only running vanilla version with no mods or expansion packs
You guessed wrong.
>the load times are atrocious
I'll never deny this. It was tolerable on my old SSD but with my current mechanical drive it legit takes nearly 10 minutes to get from starting the game to actually playing it. But once it's loaded I don't have performance issues.
>And don't tell me to delete my CCs
And there's your problem. It's not EA's fault some amateur out there made a piece of shit mod that breaks the game.
This is true though. It doesn't have an internal frame limiter so frames will jump to 200-300fps ocassionally only to slow down to about 30. Stuttering ensues.
If you're on Nvidia its best to use Nvidia profile inspector, find sims 3 in the list of programs and manually set a frame limit of 60 there.
I'm not saying that parts not true. And it is a good idea to frame limit the game. There's nothing gained by running it at 1000fps. I'm just saying if it is doing that it shouldn't be doing anymore to break your computer than running the latest releases at significantly lower framerates does. You are wasting energy and generating unnecessary heat but using you computer to its full potential should not result in it spontaneously self destructing.
Does anyone else feel like you never have enough time to do anything interesting in the Sims?
Imagine if taking a shit took half an hour in real life
ha ha yeah imagine.
Yeah, some of the timings are weird. In real life I can wake up, go to the toilet, shower, dress, eat breakfast and be on my way to work in about 40 minutes. In the Sims 3 that takes nearly two hours. Thank god it's trivial to tune a lot of that sort of shit.
no surprise considering the target demographic treats it like a dollhouse first and foremost
i miss when sims used to have fears and interests and more random events could occur
i would just like a real proper fucking life simulation, technically sure its still a sim game but very loosely, you have so much control over every variable theres just no difficulty or randomness which a life simulation should probably have
It's not just that but also the fact that you have to constantly fight with the various needs, you can't go on a party until 2am or your sim is going to fall asleep on the sofa constantly, you can't really hold back your shit or use perfume to hide the stink.
There should be limited ways to beat the needs from time to time.
>you have so much control over every variable theres just no difficulty or randomness which a life simulation should probably have
This is my problem with the series in general along with the horrible genetics system (same faces) in a game built around creating families.
>i would just like a real proper fucking life simulation
Well, that's doing shit like laundry. What exactly is "dollhouse" about personal hygiene and housework?
Honestly, most of Sims 4 is a step forward in regards to being a life simulator when compared to Sims 3. Stuff like skills matter to careers again. It's not trivial to become a legitimate multi-millionaire anymore. Bills are more strict and they introduced tax brackets. You actually have to have sims literally count calories now in regards to maintaining their weight. I don't worship Sims 4 or anything but it gets more shit than it deserves. It is not a universal downgrade like so often claimed. There's a lot of shit that is just a straight up upgrade.
>you can't go on a party until 2am or your sim is going to fall asleep on the sofa constantly
Well, you can if you have the sim drink some coffee. That negates the fatigue effect for a few hours. But the late night parties are intended for the one and only late night world which automatically adjust almost every sim's hours to be later. Even work hours are adjusted to accommodate this. The game isn't THAT bad about making needs a pain in the ass. Your sim can carry around food that never expires so keeping them fed is easy. Pretty much every community lot has a toilet so keeping them relieved is easy. Frankly, I'm surprised you are having trouble keeping needs filled. You would hate the first Sims game.
>There should be limited ways to beat the needs from time to time.
There is a lot of the time. Between rewards and all the shit added by expansions it's possible to keep your sims needs filled purely by using inventory items.
install nraas relativity. It lets you tweak the time for all interactions and comes with some good presets.
because shit like laundry is just surface level set dressing like most of the so-called "expansion" packs, theres no interesting mechanics worthy of being called a simulation there, you do thing and get buffs
the wants and fears system in 2 is a better idea of an actual life simulation, you cant just delete wishes you yourself dont want regardless of your sim, you have to wait for them to reroll and have to be careful to not do something your sim has randomly decided they would hate, not saying its perfect but its an objectively more interesting system to play with than in 4
i dont entirely hate 4 either though, it does some good stuff and its a fun enough sandbox for making things, but im more complaining about the general direction of the series since forever
Nah, I like to make the mods myself. Means I don't have to reset things every time I start a new save, which I do fairly often. It's piss easy to do. It's just editing xml files for the most part. There's some shit I know I definitely want to kill and never have come back, e.g. those fucking social groups occurring outside the university world.
>those fucking social groups occurring outside the university world
>have your Sim play a video game for two hours or so
>he's already level 1 Nerd
Fuck that shit. Same for celebrities outside Bridgeport.
Yeah but with these mods you can edit the xmls ingame and instantly see the change. You can even load/save presets so its pretty easy to transfer them to a new save.
>solitary 30 year old man living on the edge of a wilderness
How do you make money?
>play a video game
>instantly become a gaymer
good
I'd like to know too
Lets share our ideas to improve the sims as a game.
>Sims born into the player family acquire traits randomly or by interacting with the world rather than letting the player turn them into sues.
>Sims have defined romantic preferences and sexuality to add challenge to finding partners.
The thing that really fucks it all up is interacting with a sim from a social group gains the other sim points in that group. SP will also randomly add social points to sims every day. The end result, from my experience at least, is that literally every fucking sims whines up being pretty much at the top of every social group simultaneously and all they ever do from then on is spam social group interactions at each. And this even happens in the foreign worlds. UL is a fucked expansion.
I'm well aware of relativity and what it does. It's just not something I need. I've got other nraas mods. I couldn't live without mastercontroller, for example. It's pretty much the only reasonable way to create a custom world population and fix bugs as they happen. Tempest is great for customizing seasons to worlds rather than just killing some of the seasons off when they result in weather that doesn't make sense. Overwatch is basically essential.
How do I stop my wife from being a whore while I play with other families?
(me again continuing my blogpost)
though sadly in 2 even triggering a want or fear doesnt result in much. in my ideal game there would be bigger repercussions for those. to be fair you can mod 4 so when something bad happens to your sims they can get upset for ages, making skill gain much harder and thus career progression very slow, thats cool, but all that means is less money and maybe no electricity, i want social workers coming and taking your kids away because your a shit parent, people not liking you making relationship and social gain much harder, getting depressed and lonely, going homeless, ill and starving to death, fears based on the personality of that sim. things like that, adding laundry does round out the overall day to day life simulation, but it doesnt facilitate any interesting gameplay or systems you would expect from a legitimate simulation of life.
its similar to what happened with spore, one part of maxis wanted cutesy game, other wanted simulation, cutesy won out and we got a shit game, if i remember correctly. even simcity 2013 was a faux simulation which on the outside appeared complex but was as actually as deep as a puddle.
Try nraas story progression, make a custom caste that doesn't allow romance and apply it to the household when you don't actively play it.
>>Sims have defined romantic preferences and sexuality to add challenge to finding partners.
Sims 2 got that in an expansion. Sim 3 got a pitiful excuse for an attraction system in Seasons. I just modded it out because it was pointless. Apparently base game Sims 4 has it but it's so subtle most people don't even notice it's there. Supposedly it makes sims more inclined to want to interact with certain other sims, build relationships faster and more inclined to use romantic interactions along with all the associated wants and fears.
Will have a look, thanks.
I think wicked whims or some other mod I tried added an attraction system but whether it does much I don't know.
i'm not crying faggot.
That will only apply to SP actions though. If the wife is on a lot and decides to flirt with some other random sim on the same lot it won't do anything to stop it. Sims shouldn't naturally be inclined to be whores unless he specifically made them to be a whore.
*GETTING WATER INTENSIFIES*
My sims just stand around a lot and barely have initiative outside of doin it
Did I break the game?
I think WW just added some physical preferences stuff, like tit size and shit. EA tends more just to look at things like traits, skills, random dice rolls, etc.
>sims have innate talents and interests (or lack thereof) that tailor progression rate for skills
>sims have inherent biases towards other sims making some relationships impossible or some easier and not just 10 funny actions into 10 flirty actions into woohoo
Do you have autonomy turned down?
>>sims have innate talents and interests (or lack thereof) that tailor progression rate for skills
>>sims have inherent biases towards other sims making some relationships impossible or some easier and not just 10 funny actions into 10 flirty actions into woohoo
This is already in the games. What the hell do you think the trait system does?
Escapism is the main reason why i play videogames. It is not even for entertainment anymore.
Might be that there's nothing to do for your sim. Add a few interactable furniture and look at your sim's perks so you know what they like. Installing the addons also adds a lot of new interactions. Be sure to check the options first if you didn't simply turn off free will.
I'm not him but in Sims 3 you could literally force any relationship if you talked to them enough.
lol fucking no it isnt
all traits do is give a flat increase on the already fast default skill gain, of which you can custom select them
you can fuck or be friends with any sim if you spam enough interactions
its shallow as fuck
i play MMOs to fulfill my my extreme social requirements ever since i lost the ability to go out irl
it's on
I might want to remove purchased traits, they don't even need to sleep anymore, it's really broken.
They stand around with shit to do in queue for hours, it is a known issue
forums.thesims.com
I have multiple, but
>bring back Create-a-Style
Both a necessity for making houses and Sims.
Yeah, if you game the system you can eventually wind up doing anything. The Sims isn't meant to be some sort of challenging strategy game, it's just a sandbox. Restrictions on what the player can achieve with a sim is mostly done via sim lifespan and nothing else.
>made a stoner/drug dealer sim a while back
>playing as some teen who would like to buy a fake ID and get wasted in nightclubs
>drug dealer never shows up anywhere
>hmm
>check out his household
>pic related
wtf
>They stand around with shit to do in queue for hours, it is a known issue
Oh, this shit. It's a CPU load issue. If you are using the time skip function to speed things up know that's doing nothing to help, it's actually making it worse.
>The Sims isn't meant to be some sort of challenging strategy game, it's just a sandbox.
yeah eg dollhouse do whatever you want wish fulfillment, im not the target demographic, i get it. if people want to play it that way fine, but they could at least include some other systems if you want more depth, but the legions of middle aged women dont give a fuck what i think and neither do ea.
i had enough fun playing with mods and my own self imposed limitations while doing a legacy challenge, but you can only go so far with that.
But it's so fucking slow otherwise and anyway.
Gr8 programming m8
>yeah eg dollhouse do whatever you want wish fulfillment
It's more about doing whatever is fun. Go look at the official forums and people aren't playing wish fulfillment crap, they are playing daytime soap operas. The vast majority of the people who play the sims jump around between multiple households and do various shenanigans to cause strife. They do not play as their self insert with their dream husband or something. You people have just made up a demographic and decided that is who the main audience being targeted is. Sorry, but it's not true.
I can run sims 3 on the highest settings on my laptop user stop being a poorfag.
Read the fucking thread
>all expansions+mods
>memory leaks
>highest settings
irrelevant. it's all the shit going on in the background, that after awhile, starts causing memory leaks. eventually my saved games become unplayable
Last time I tried playing I didn't even get around to playing the game, I just created my two guys and a two room house and stopped.
>They do not play as their self insert with their dream husband or something.
i think they do, even people here talk about self insert playthroughs.
>You people have just made up a demographic and decided that is who the main audience being targeted is.
i didnt make up anything, the sims is a franchise mostly played by women and girls, to play sandbox dollhouse in whatever way they want, whether by doing self inserts or whatever the fuck. either way they arent looking for an actual life sim, so they shit out laundry packs and set dressing #23 instead of adding any real worthwhile simulation elements.
Yes, I'll never be able to do this IRL so the Sims helps me [filtered] with it.
>>memory leaks
You guys need to learn the difference between a memory leak and legitimate accumulated data. Sims 3 can accumulate a lot of data depending on your settings and current game state, e.g. how many sims are there, how many generations have there been, do you have memories enabled, etc., etc. These are not memory leaks but they do cause a problem in that it's 32 bit software so if you play for a really long time eventually you've just got more data than it's possible for the game to handle. Then you either have to clean your save or start a new one. There are things you can do to make a save last longer but it's never going to last indefinitely and that's not a memory leak. The only actual memory leaks in Sims 3 are pretty minor and won't kill a save or cause performance issues, they just might result in a game crash eventually if you play for too long. Restart the game and it'll play fine. All the memory will have been freed in the crash.
honestly don't even care, i'm gonna pirate the whole thing
>i think they do, even people here talk about self insert playthroughs.
Well, of course the incels here self insert. Don't project that bullshit onto well adjusted normies. The vast majority of people who play the sims don't play a single self insert household. That's just a fact. In fact, the reason EA killed SP for Sims 4 is specifically because the majority of the player base jumps around between multiple households and they were getting irritated with SP getting in the way of the soap opera stories they were trying to set up.
All expansions, played one family, had generations and memories off, all the supernatural cringe shit was off, deleted all other families but mine and demolished their houses and the game still ran like ass. I cleaned my save once in a while and this was in a 64bit system. Shit is just cursed
I think it's just you that is cursed. People routinely play Sims 3 with all expansions for like a dozen generations and have no performance problems or memory leaks killing their saves.
A lot of the shit that is called a memory leak objectively isn't. Even some of that nraas shit gets it wrong. For example, nraas likes to purge cars under the assumption they are clearing a memory leak but this is not so much clearing a memory leak as it is just emptying a pool. Every night nraas wipes that shit and come the next day the engine just recreates it all because there's nothing there for it to use. If nraas didn't wipe it all the engine would be reusing what it already had. Arguably clearing that out might help if you are right on the line with memory usage but if you're at that stage it's time to start a new game regardless.
youre bullshitting if you think the average normalfag doesnt make their own sim self and fuck around for a while. of course the more long term forum posting housewife players get bored and move onto more exotic pastures.
either way it doesnt really matter to the point in making which is the target demographic and current playerbase dont want the game i want and i accept that, as lame as it is, i just wish the game was more.
Sorry, most people just don't lives the incel life of nothing but wish fulfillment fantasies and self insertions.
most people when playing sims are tempted to self insert at least initially, That's just a fact. :)but keep spouting off buzzwords tranny, you might eventually make a point
if you scour the map you'll find dozens of cars trapped in one area and just constantly being added to
it doesn't always happen but it was one of the leading causes of lag on my MacOS install
I used to, a lot, in the past. But then one day I realized that simulations can never beat the real thing. So now, I've made a conscious choice, that even if I don't have things in life that I would want, I would rather choose the emptiness and let something real be born of it, than delude myself temporarily. Not trying to shame anyone or guilt anyone into facing reality, I know reality is a tough bitch for a lot of people. Just speaking from my own experience

I read a rumor that sims 4 was gonna have implimented mp and they had to trim the world way down to keep up with that idea but due to how the simcity mp bit caused everyone to tell EA to go fuck themselves they dropped it but keep working on the existing assets.
tl,dr we could have had the sims online 2
