Friendly reminder: >Final Fantasy is practically dead >Pokémon is just braindead >Fire Emblem and Persona have all been heavily dumbed down, stuffed with waifushit, and stripped of any possible challenge for the casual player and normalfag >Gatchashit is self-explanatory >Neptunia is also self-explanatory >Tales has shown very recent signs of gachafication with Asteria, Link, Rays, and Crestoria >Mother is dead >Chrono Trigger/Cross are dead >Monster Hunter's getting the Hollywood treatment >Atelier has completely fucked itself and its sales over with Gust and moeshit since Khemia >Speaking of Gust, Ar Tonelico is dead >Drakengard has been abandoned in favor of Nier >The SaGa series has started ripping off Last Remnant >Star Ocean is dead >Xenogears and Xenosaga are dead and not getting remakes while Blade still lives >Suikoden is dead >Grandia is dead (and that remaster sadly won't save it) >Same goes for Langrisser >Growlanser is dead >Vagrant Story is dead and the Ivalice universe sucked into FFXIV >Breath of Fire is dead >Alundra is dead >Valkyrie Profile is dead >Wild Arms is dead >Panzer Dragoon is dead >Shining Force is dead >Phantasy Star is dead and already gachafied >Phantasy Star Online is dead >Ragnarok Online is dead >Maplestory is dead >Skies of Arcadia is dead >Tactics Ogre is dead >Lufia is dead >Lunar is dead >Dark Cloud is dead >Jade Cocoon is dead >The ActRaiser/Soul Blazer series are dead >TWEWY is dead and sucked into the void that is Kingdom Hearts >Trails has been turned into bloated harem waifufaggotry with LN-tier chuuni protagonists and Calvard's still a long way off to save or completely destroy it thanks to Cold Steel
>Ys is older than ANY of these series or games and is still producing highly underrated quality-over-quantity action RPGs that are fun, challenging, and engaging with god-tier music for everyone to this day
The absolute state of many JRPGs these days; they're sadly just not as adventurous as Ys is now.
It's just that, they made the final game and the story is over.
Charles Williams
Busy with Rean's game.
Evan Robinson
Persona wasn't dumbed down I wouldn't say, it always easy and it was never complex. It has never felt like it was made that way to appeal to casuals though. I do think the games could afford to be more difficult, but I think it's unfair to accuse it of having been made simple when the truth is it was simple from the outset, just not in the same ways.
Isaiah Howard
It's pretty cool that they finished with a fucking masterpiece though.
Andrew Martin
TWEWY isn't dead, it was just one standalone game. If it were a series that ended abruptly then you could say it's dead, but right now it's just its own thing.
Aiden Reyes
>>Xenogears and Xenosaga are dead and not getting remakes while Blade still lives The sheer amount of mental gymnastics Yskeks have to go through to make their games look better. MonolithSoft are leagues above nuFalcom.
Luke Sanders
>Ys is older than ANY of these series or games and is still producing highly underrated quality-over-quantity action RPGs that are fun IX was incredibly repetitive and full of filler. It's the opposite of quality over quantity.
Connor Gonzalez
>jap shit lol who cares
Adam Walker
Ys 8 was crap tho
James Perry
>It's the opposite of quality over quantity. Why did you say that instead if saying it's quantity over quality?
Alexander Hall
The same applies to all SMT games. Persona is barely different from main SMT mechanically, only difference seems to be that it doesn't force you to spam boss weaknesses to win
Isaiah Baker
Reminder that when Adol's mortal life is over, no fucking way in hell his goddess harem will let him just die like that, he will be ascended to godhood.
Leo Jackson
VIII, even. The series is so low tier for me I can't remember the 4 of them I've played.
Because I was alluding to a phrase I quoted, you mark.
Brody Gonzalez
> FF13 Trilogy made over 1.2 Billion > FFXIV made over 2.1 Billion > FFXV made 500 million > Somehow Final Fantasy is dead How?
Luis Hughes
Good. Maybe it's finally time you manchildren stop pretending picking options from a menu is some sort of high IQ gameplay
Jaxson Murphy
>Persona is barely different from main SMT mechanically Can you explain why you think this? The systems and baseline actions you do to progress are very different, they pretty much just use the same weakness system and not much else.
Angel Lopez
>FFXV made 500 million It made this on a 12 year development cycle over multiple projects, that ain't good boyo.
Elijah Hill
Dragon Quest is older than Ys
Ys VIII was fun though, I hope NISA will bring it next year and not in 2021
Asher Martinez
Didn't they have to publicly cancel parts of FFXV due to escalating costs and little return? They also spent a year and a half attempting to patch the game in to something worth playing.
Wyatt Hernandez
Persona is way more about weakness spam than SMT. It's a braindead, casualized version with reduced buff routine that is completely focused around all outs, even 5 with baton passes didn't manage to bring any substance into it.
Jason Turner
I meant bring IX
Alexander Adams
>> FFXV made 500 million Took forever to make and devs ain't working for free.
Luke Smith
I definitely wouldn't say that. The fact that P3 onwards has the social side of the game alone makes the games very different mechanically, there's more to consider than just combat when talking about their differences. SMT has also not been simplified overtime at all, nor has it maintained the simplicity of SMT1, SMT1 is braindead, but by the time you get to IV:A the difficulty has really ramped up and there's a lot more complexity to the combat. The combat is mechanically different from Persona too, there are similarities, but Press Turn, Smirk, the way buffs and debuffs work and the way your party is more customizable in SMT, among other differences make the two quite different, even if they share that basic element of you hitting the enemy's weakness is good and them hitting your weakness is bad.
You also have some differentiation between different SMT games, with SJ playing quite differently from the games with Press Turn, for example.
Oliver Lewis
I wasn’t counting the mobile game, with the mobile tie in game it’s at 1.006 Billion Dollars. Every FF game since FF6 has made at least 800 Million to 1 Billion except FF9
Joseph Murphy
They literally all use the exact same set of spells, the exact same fusion system (only it's "Arcana" in Persona and "Tribes" in SMT), same demons, same gimmick of using weaknesses granting additional actions, same moon phase shit. They're the same.
>Persona is way more about weakness spam than SMT. No it isn't. They're both about weakness spam because that's all the meta there is to the combat. Neither SMT nor Persona have remotely interesting combat mechanics and are far more about painstaking team composition than the actual battles themselves.
Landon Fisher
I didnt even realize MonHun counted as jrpg until this thread
>No it isn't. Yes it is. Persona rewards you for weakness spam way harder than any SMT game because of all-outs being a spammable piece of shit. Add miracle punch to this and you're set to braindead through your entire P5 playthrough while any SMT game will still regularly fucking destroy you.
Kevin Lopez
Thats not much different from mainline games having multiple levels of debilitate/DOOTS to trivialize fights without weakness spam
Chase Campbell
Brainlet, just because main SMT doesn't reward you as much doesn't mean that you're not still doing the same thing anyway. It's still the most optimal strategy, and in many cases the only strategy since you cannot outdamage the boss fast enough to avoid death otherwise
Isaiah Clark
>debilitate/DOOTS The fuck are you on about, even with those, enemies just counter them also.
Jacob Gomez
Am I reading this wrong or did you say Pokemon is a braindead version of Fire Emblem?
Elijah Gutierrez
Xeno and SMT are still alive, they are also better than p*rty based Ys
Elijah Adams
It's barely even a game like the rest of capcoms shovelware
David Reyes
you meant >Ys is getting warped by Coldsteel into another overdesigned animu game
Matthew Phillips
Literally don't know any of those except Pokemon Go lmao Fucking boomers
Carson Wright
Persona 5 wasn't dumbed down. It plays more like old SMT games.
I would agree, but on the other hand the developer himself just can't shut about how he'd like to make a second game if only the sales were good enough to justify it.
Gavin Sullivan
IX isn't out yet.
Robert Sanders
>Ys >RPG
Isaiah Robinson
>implying ys isn’t also going for waifushit now too IX has a fucking cowgirl and a catgirl for Christ’s sake
Every Ys game is full of waifus. And all of them were generic anime girls for their time. It's just time that changes.
Carter Jenkins
Oh absolutely, I just found it funny op implied ys wasn’t guilty of the same shit he’s accusing pokemon and fire emblem of. I’d also argue the party system is casualizing and dumbing it down as well. Give me back the ark engine
I might have shit taste because I enjoy some of them but at least I'm not a jadded asshole like you.
Hot damn, I really pitty you.
Gabriel Ramirez
Ys is literally waifufagging incarnate though. Adol is a silent self insert character and every journey is just you saving a civilization while getting girls to fall for you then dumping them for then next flavor of the month.
Benjamin Sullivan
The difference is that Adol doesn't give a single shit about any of them, he lives for adventures and fighting.
Ian Rivera
>Ragnarok Online is dead >Maplestory is dead uhhh bro...? these aren't...
Isaac Williams
For me it's the doll girl
Jeremiah Turner
nowayfag is an even more tired and stupid cliche than what you see in your average waifu simulator. If they're going to bother with all the thirsty sluts than they should at least have it mean something
Isaiah Torres
He doesn't really nowayfag them, they either part with him willingly or fucking die if they have blue hair. Laxia wants them to meet later in life at least.
Christian Hughes
>2H Axe that's my fetish
James White
Since every game is just a record of Adol's adventures, nothing stops him from omitting some details about fucking every girl he came across so every part of the world will be full of red-haired super human adventures in 20 years.
Blake Robinson
Ys is fucking dead nowadays, all the recent release were trash.
Adrian Howard
>implying they aren't all bullshit and Adol is just dabbing on historians.
Dylan Collins
correct, Ys 8 was garbo Celceta is completely forgettable
Asher Rivera
There's most likely traces of his presence in military archives and folklore all over the world so there's no reason for him to fake any of this.
Aaron Ortiz
>Adol doesn't give a single shit about any of them Except for Lilia, who he kisses in Ys ii on the pc engine version and with whom he has kids in at least Dawn of Ys
>Hashimoto: Recent RPGs have been very difficult, and it takes a lot of willpower to finish them. So eventually we came to have our doubts: was this really “fun”? With Ys, therefore, we set out to create the opposite kind of game, something that would be accessible, easy to play, and not geared toward hardcore RPG maniacs.
>That’s true–the uncomplicated Ys is definitely different from most RPGs, where you start to wonder if there’s something wrong with you for obsessively spending so much time on it. Hashimoto then continued to the next point:
>Hashimoto: In our advertisments for Ys we prominently featured the word “Kindness.” That word signals that, as developers, we assumed the perspective of players, always asking ourselves how to make a game that would be more enjoyable from the player’s perspective. One example would be the way you can save your game anywhere. Games that limit your ability to save end up wasting a lot of the player’s effort. In addition, we also avoided the experience grinding that has been an annoying feature of RPGs. If something feels like work, you’ll quickly tire of it. Anyway, the driving idea behind Ys was thinking from the player’s perspective. Glad to see Ys finally returning to its roots :)
Asher Murphy
Have you looked at some of the Ys IX trailers?
>The edgiest character designs yet >The worst look Adol has had so far >Animations still look trash despite Falcom supposedly using motion capture this time >All the environments are giant open fields that take an eternity to traverse with a handful of enemies
I hope I'm wrong but the game really doesn't look good.
All JRPGs were always casual shit garbage and Ys is just Diablo for virgins. Shit thread. Sage and gay and reported and filtered.
Ethan Morris
>It plays more like old SMT games. You don't genuinely believe this do you?
Ian Johnson
>Ys is older than ANY of these series or games and is still producing highly underrated quality-over-quantity action RPGs that are fun, challenging, and engaging with god-tier music for everyone to this day Someone needs to update the pasta. :(
Brayden Morris
The character models are the best 3d work Falcom did so far. Adol's gameplay seems pretty cool, he is a fucking vampire now.
Brayden Hall
So this is where Jusis went after CS
Brayden Brown
Are the areas still fuckhuge that was intended for giants?
Bentley Lewis
>1:26 Oh hey, it's Falcom doing a cover of Bloody Tears
Cooper Mitchell
Why is that boy wearing a nun outfit.
Adrian Barnes
I won't be surprised if he's related to Fact family of demonfucker sorcerers.
I can't believe Falcom finally evolved to late PS2 graphics
Michael Bennett
Ys IX looks like shit though.
Hudson Jackson
>Ys tries a different setting after 33 fucking years
You'd think having decades of good will and investment in a series that largely still has the same creative minds at the helm would lead players to actually trust and look forward to something different but here we are
Gavin Baker
The new characters look fucking dumb but the actual biggest offense is making Adol an edgelord, which is like the exact opposite of his character.
>>Final Fantasy is practically dead Except XIV is going strong and XVI is in production with yoshi-p leading the development, so it'll probably be the best Final Fantasy game in the last 20 years
Carson Rivera
>MonolithSoft are leagues above nuFalcom. Monolith puts most modern JRPG developers to shame, at least in terms of ambition and graphics which his hilarious considering Xenoblade X (arguably the most ambitious JRPG ever made regardless if it's good or bad) and Xenoblade 2 (literally an afterthought with a skeleton crew of 40 staff but larger and more content packed than all of its competition) are both on the shittiest, pointless and most underpowered consoles of this gen.
Cold Steel 3 was trying to fix the mess of the first two games Unfortunately the otaku decided to sperg out because of the limited romantic interest so falcom backpedalled in panic in the most pathetic way possible in 4, ruining the overarching story of the whole series in the process.
Parker Bell
>that shilling Yikes
Evan Roberts
Daily reminder that Dragon Quest will be more popular than ever thanks to Dragon Quest 11 S.
>Monster Hunter's getting the Hollywood treatment Is that supposed to be a bad thing compared to the 240p resolution games we had to deal with in the past?
Gavin Martin
In Japan, sure
Ayden James
>> FFXV made 500 million
did it really? The 10 years of dev time + all the story DLC that was not cancelled+ movie must cost a lot of fucking money
besides, when story DLC for XV got cancelled and they fired Tabta, Sqaure announced a $33 Million LOSS because of that shit
Andrew Price
I've only played Origin, Oath, 7, and 8, but I think it looks awesome.
Waifushit is alright, but it should only be looked at as a bonus to the game. I think it's bad when a series' waifus overtakes the gameplay and/or narrative in the fans' eyes.
Caleb Young
>I think it's bad when a series' waifus overtakes the gameplay and/or narrative in the fans' eyes. Which very very rarely happens.
James Hall
Not just in Japan but even in America. I'm telling you Smash bump is real. The Demo also really did the series justice.
Angel Sullivan
>Which very very rarely happens. what is 90% of jap games
Ethan Campbell
I continue to say that the final boss fight in Ys 1 is the greatest final boss fight of all time. It's short, hectic, the buildup is fantastic, the music is godlike, you're both beating the shit out of each other, and you almost always barely end up winning with a sliver of health and a ruined battlefield
Just thinking about it gets me rock hard
William Fisher
Fucking embarrassing. This looks like a poorman's Code Vein. Are falcom fags seriously going to defend this? kek
John King
Ys VIII and Celceta are absolute garbage, are you retarded?
Asher Lewis
Sorry that cute girls offend you but people generally stick around for gameplay when it isn't gacha.
Charles Nguyen
>This looks like a poorman's Code Vein thank you user, I knew this shit looked familiar
Lucas Johnson
>In a turn based game where the objective is to deplete the enemies hp you frequently use abilities which do the most HP damage
You don't say
Caleb Roberts
Origin was the last good Ys game. I'll take a tight ARPG with one character and 3 weapons over a clunky party-based ARPG with 30 redundant weapons any time. Also, Dragon Quest and SMT are doing well.
Nicholas Turner
I need to get a new desktop since my laptop is a hand-me-down and aged horribly. It nine or eight years old and I got it from my brother in 2014. I just want to played the more recent Ys games badly especially after loving Origins and Felghana.
I unironically liked the English dub of the Ys OVAs on a sidenote. I also liked how it better explained Dark Fact's backstory even though the fight scene with him was downplayed and his appearance looks barely anything like his game appearance.
>I'll take a tight ARPG with one character and 3 weapons over a clunky party-based ARPG with 30 redundant weapons any time this tbqh. I'm really frustrated with the direction Falcom decided to take Ys, but the older games will still be there to enjoy, and I haven't beat them all on Nightmare yet, so there's still a lot of replay value there
Camden Turner
>I'll take a tight ARPG with one character and 3 weapons over a clunky party-based ARPG with 30 redundant weapons any time Well, where are they? I get the whining about nu-Ys and all, but even then VIII seems miles better than a lot of the garbage that gets passed around as "ARPG" these days.
Asher Nguyen
it's fucking shit dude
Grayson Thomas
try playing on a higher difficulty
Luke Anderson
The new YS game looks like ass.
Joseph Lee
Disgaea is okay
Christopher Ortiz
adol looks a little too edgy but I liked 8 and it looks very similar
