Which FF is best?
Which FF is best?
IX
X for combat, VI/VII for setting, IX for cast.
I sure as hell ain't qualified to answer that. I just know it's nothing involving the Fabula Nova Crystallis.
Personally though, my favourite FF is VIII,
Overall VII, best gameplay V, story IX
why does Kane get top billing in FF4?
>best gameplay V
Who else should get it?
best girl
best game
easy as
unpopular opinion but XII has my favorite combat. I quite enjoy the gambit system even if it’s just automation, the depth of customization was great. zodiac edition kinda sucks for character customization though as you can’t experiment with as many weird hybrid roles. the story is pretty trash though I like V and X better if that’s what you care about
V>Tactics>VII>III>IV>I>VI>II
Getting the VIII remaster tomorrow lads, can't wait to see what about that game makes people seethe
FFV
someone post the steam version for comparison
X, IX, VII
also III, VI, XIV
I'm thinking of giving the xiii trilogy a try despite their reputation, I dont care about story only gameplay and I like every ff game 1-10 for the most part, never played 12. Change my mind.
First game's actually pretty fun though it IS a slow burn.
5, WoFF and 12
Six and nine.
Best corridor game.
What about the sequels? I'm willing to give them a try because I feel like a bunch of people just jumped on the hate bandwagon cuz the story is shit even though most ff games have shit stories.
Seven has the perfect setting.
shadowbringers > heavensward > 9 > 6 > Stormblood > 5 > 10 > A Realm Reborn > 7 > rest
has no one said tactics yet? does that count
Haven't played the sequels yet.
not really unpopular when FF turn based combat has always been low tier
play 12 instead of 13 you dumb faggot
I beat VIII last November and thought it was decent. The first disc is fantastic. Starting with the second disc, the story takes a retarded turn and the cast ends up really undeveloped. Once you get the hang of it, the combat isn't that bad, and I like the variety of GFs.
...
the one i like and the one you hate
I know VIII has problems, but in terms of setting and design is my favorite one
I always loved 9 the most.
Was a big fan of 8 when it originally came out but that's because I was 15 at the time and self inserted heavily. Nowadays I realize how full of plotholes and nonsense like "oh so we're all from the same orphanage but just forgot huh? funn how we all ended up being together haha!" it actually is.
It still has some of my favorite visual design and music tracks though. And BG is max comfy.
I also have a soft spot for 12 because I love Ivalice, but even though playing it multiple times, I never actually finished it.
In all honesty, all FF games are super shallow in the combat and it's 99% of the time just spam the attack command with the occasional heal. What really gets people to like it is the story, graphics and music. It's comfy and relaxing as well. If that's true, then the battle system from FF2 is the best of the series, since it's not about the battles themselves, but the character's growth. In all other games, stat growths are tied to character or class, but in 2 it's tied to what you use in battle, with lots of subdivisions. You can have someone who casts Fire and Heals and uses Axes, or someone who only uses support magic and shields to stay alive, or making every character have a specific support spell to buff the entire party in 1 turn. That sort of variety of character growth makes the simplest "spam attack" strategies less effective. You're more likely to buff characters on battles they don't need buffs to win simply because that will raise your buff spell's level and make it stronger and more accurate for when you actually need it. (Cont)
This makes random battles have less to do with the enemies, but all to do with your own characters. You can make battles longer to get more experience by actively attacking yourself instead of enemies, to maximize growth. The minigame aspect of stat growths gives the game a whole new level of strategy without the game requiring lots of strategy to beat it.
In a similar vein to pokemon and getting your team on the same level, switching them around for experience gains instead of type advantages. As a game itself it could be better, but comparing it to the others of the series where there is literally no difference to how you won a battle, you're encourage to win battles the fastest and most efficient way, unlike 2, where the most efficient way WILL get you through the game, but isn't the most fun.
That being said, the fun in the game's combat comes from your own imposed limitations, which isn't a thing for everyone. It feels more like an RPG in that regard, with the roleplay aspects being much more present than in other FFs.
With that being said, FF2 music is overall superior to other games, there's one or two tracks which are terrible but the rest is pretty good, a ratio that's far higher than any other FF.
Story is just Star Wars, which is already a better story than most games do anyway.
The combat in 12 looks boring from what I've seen.
>FF2
stopped reading there
This is practically the most retarded critique I've ever seen. Nearly every point is either contradictory to another point or shows ignorance of the rest of the series. Good job. Take this (you). You earned it.
>comparing a jrpg to pokemon and then acting as if pokemon has good jrpg mechanics
This is a very deep shitpost with a lot of layers, very nice job.
>the fun in the game's combat comes from your own imposed limitations
You can put limitations on yourself in basically every mainline ff and it usually makes the games more interesting which is why I like them, I dont see how 2 is unique in that aspect at all.
Pokemon does have good jrpg mechanics (other than RNG shit like IVs). What it lacks is good game design.
