Reminder that MGS1 is the best in the series and that 2 ruined the story forever.
Reminder that MGS1 is the best in the series and that 2 ruined the story forever
mgs1 hurt mg2 with your image being a good example
Mgs series went to shit the more and more people (and Konami) believed Kojima was the sole reason of its success.
Gray Fox is fucking cool though?
>*tschoostickacha, sticka sticka cha*
>*tschoostickacha, sticka sticka cha*
>*Myurrrrrayurrrururrryayurrria*
>Womp womp wermp wermp, womp womp wermp wermp...womp womp wermp wamp
>Dun dun da, dun dun da, dun dun DUN, DUN
he already killed his gf and had his duel with snake, reviving him to do it again (something mgs1 does a lot) and add another woman to his story is lame
Oh this shit again.
Inb4 "the series went to shit after MG1"
It's not lame, it was great.
why?
What do you mean why?
His story was cool and he was one of the best characters in MGS1.
But 2 is the peak of the series. 3 is where the story started going downhill
>But 2 is the peak of the series
not with that badly executed cliffhanger ending and shitty main character
like I already said, it's a retread of what he did in mg2
Nah.
MGS2 was peak META
MGS3 was peak story
MG2 and MGS are essentially the same game. Metal Gear Solid 2 makes a point of this in being the same game a third time, but then turns the narrative on its head and becomes self aware and pretty much a critique on sequels in general. Either way, MG2, MGS, and MGS2 represent the best that the Metal Gear series has to offer.
>but then turns the narrative on its head and becomes self aware and pretty much a critique on sequels in general.
but I feel it's execution by going "it was intentionally a MGS ripoff because of the Solid Snake Simulation" was badly done
That's the point. Sequels can never live up to the hype. They're just cash grabs to get an already established fan base to keep coming back for more.
How the fuck is it critical of sequels?
Also
>merely pretending
I want to play Peace Walker, should I replay MGS3 first?
I wouldn't do either of those things.
>How the fuck is it critical of sequels?
MGS2 being a half assed MGS1 clone is a plot point, Solid Snake Simulation is a phrase uttered in the game to describe the Big Shell simulation the Patriots forced Raiden to do.
>tfw you like all 4 MGS games
MGS2 has better gameplay, graphics, and polish (things like the codec being better, and TECHNOLOGY) than MGS1. MGS1 has far, far better boss battles and story.. Overall, MGS2 is a bit better. They're the only two games in the series I've played.
>not having played Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2
kys
It was. There's no part of MGS2's actual plot that's good. Having to take pictures of robots isn't interesting. Having to freeze bombs for a drama queen black man isn't interesting. Nothing having to do with Emma is interesting. The Colonel AI stuff is vaguely interesting but it's not even a part of the actual plot, it's just Kojima's stand-in bitching at the player for like 10 minutes straight
You're still shit even if you're self-aware about being shit
>4
Nigger there's at least 6
MGS1 is just a stealth remake of MG2: Solid Snake
>presumably killed by the yakuza
What is this gay retard fanfiction shit?
3D you mean? MG and MG2 are still stealth games.
Uh, sorry gramps, but I don't play games that were developed with sticks and stones.
Last I checked there were only 4 MGS games.
By stealth I meant something in the sense of something similar to "stealth sequel"
Highly cringe.
>being this new to that image
And how is that a critique of sequels?
MGS1 has a better setting, atmosphere, level design, music, characters, story and presentation.
This. Gameplay improved but everything else got worse.
Okay
>Big Boss gets duped into thinking The Boss is alive despite him shooting her in the fucking head
I don't think this is a particularly valid criticism. With all the bizarre weird shit that happens throughout the series someone you thought you killed actually being alive seems doesn't seem out of place or unbelievable.
die triggernigger
My mistake, I meant to say MGS1 was better in every way, especially in the bosses and story, but I fucked up editing my post
How were you supposed to figure out that you had to fight him with your fists when he's using a sword?
>ruined the story
There was nothing to ruin, it was garbage from the get go.
God, mgs fags are so fucking retarded.
>cringe
I don't like that, take it back
Is Kojima the Stan Lee of video games?
imagine having shit taste this bad.
I LAUGHED AND SHOOK HIS HAND
I don't even really think MGS2's gameplay improved. There's more to it, sure, but the level design is much worse than 1's and doesn't really make good use of the new mechanics. Having to find those nodes before you get a soliton radar map is the worst thing. The Big Shell is so claustrophobic that you really need those maps to not fuck up
>much worse than 1
Are you fucking retarded?
snake not telling frank what he had done was a better moment than him lying to naomi about fox's last words
Gray Fox is a shit character and only nostalgia fag 25 year olds who were kids when MGS1 came out drool over him.
MGS3>MGS2>MGS1
I feel that MGS3 did the MGS1 formula better in a serious way. MGS2 on the other hand is pretty much a deconstruction of MGS1 and I love it.
I haven't played the rest but most people agree that they are shit so I probably won't even bother.
One of the Big Shell maps is a huge empty area with linear rails to walk on and zero hiding spots. Most of the others are strictly linear corridors, also with either zero hiding spots or with the only way to get through them being to shoot the guard when he isn't looking. Most of the connecting bridges were like that too. MGS1 at least had a few open areas that let your run past enemies. In MGS2 I felt like the only time I was enjoying myself was when I was doing anything other than dealing with guards. Literally swimming through the mines was more fun
2, 3, V and maybe Peace Walker are the best. Don't listen to the retards above. Also don't go into any MGS game expecting a good story.
MGS4 was fun. Don't listen to those shitters.
Peace Walker has the best story
MGS4 was absolute garbage and is the worst MG game.
I could map the entirety of MGS1 from memory, aside from a couple of claymores or cameras.
Can anyone say that about MGS2?
Nah man, I think that while MGS3 did some things right with new gameplay features and AI it totally changed the pace of the game and made many things unnecessarily slow. I think it paved the way for the slog-fest that modern stealth games are today.
MGS2 is completely different gameplay-wise than 3 and I think I favor 2 more for that. 2 is straight forward and doesn't have huge artificial game lengtheners like changing uniforms and menus to consume food. While these additions to the gameplay add many more opportunities and variety the execution and use of them just stretches out the game and adds so much downtime to things that should be fun. Like crawling.
When I play a stealth game I don't want to sit in a bush for 10 minutes waiting for the AI to complete his circuit so I can proceed. I want to pull some gymnastics shit and sneak around him. This is the stark difference between 2 and 3.
Regardless I'll always hold that 2 is a lot more impressive story-wise and gameplay-wise.
>I could map
That's not a good thing.
2's weak point is the story.
V has the best story
>I feel that MGS3 did the MGS1 formula better in a serious way.
What the fuck is that supposed to mean? 1 is the one that was the most straight forward and genuine.
>2's weak point is the story.
especially when the story gets thrown out the window at Arsenal Gear and requires MGS4 to tie up the loose ends (Ocelot and Patriots)
Why?
If you played a game several times and you can't remember the levels then how is that not bad, especially in something like MGS2 where you spend the entire game in relatively small areas with the setting being a big part of the story.
Perhaps story-wise. I should reiterate and say that the themes presented in MGS2 are vastly superior to MGS3.
>10 hours of trash don't matter, the game is great because the last 15 minutes had a few lines that made me think
>cliffhanger ending
The conflict of the game was pretty much resolved and every character arc had a proper ending. The Patriots were implied to be an entity that preceeds even the scope of conflict of the series until that point, so they being undefeated was pretty much de insignificant considering the "perpetual war" theme going on.
>shitty main character
Raiden is a perfect main character though. He wasn't unlikeable, and his personality perfectly portrayed his differences with Snake. It just happened that he was the replacement for Solid fucking Snake, but even then we had both of them as the central characters of the game, so there was nothing lost in that aspect.
Literally nobody said that. How is MGS3 more impressive story-wise? This is literally the Metal Gear Solid franchise we're talking about.
MGS 1 has the best story.
MGS 2 has the best gameplay.
The end.
sing
sing a song
>The conflict of the game was pretty much resolved
yet the Masterminds were still out there
MGS3 had the best gameplay, you gay
You fucking wish it did.
>proper ending
What about post-credits phone call?
dude shut the eff up ok?
Because once the overly long intro cutscene is over with, it never wastes your time with inanities again, not like 2 does. It keeps things simple and dedicates what story it has to characterizing Big Boss and Ocelot, and in that sense, accomplishes all it sets out to do. By contrast 2 feels bloated and practically at war with itself given how many plot threads it tries to cram in
The only thing MGS3 added as the fucking treatment window for injuries (which is just a fucking annoying menu time waster), and added the fucking stamina bar. Eating is not an addition that makes the game better. MGS3 gameplay is almost all from MGS2, hence why the AI is a broken mess and built only for MGS2's tight corridors and brief open-air sections.
umm it added camouflage dummy
checkmate frickin nerd
MGS1 is a proper ending to Metal Gear but MGS2 is an interesting sequel to MGS. It definitely should have stopped at 2 though.
Nah, 2's ending left things too open
2 didn't fuck up the story, Snake Eater did.
See, what I mean?
This is one of those shitters that you should not be listening to. He just wants you to have a bad time and not enjoy at least one great game during your lifetime.
MGS3 story is vastly superior though.
Games past 3 weren't written solely by KOJIMA you can add Shuyou Murata to most of them
>camouflage
It makes the gameplay even more braindead AND more fucking menu time wasting. The worst of ALL WORLDS YOU BITCH.
3 is the best because it's levels gave you a lot more ways to approach things while not going full open world and had a great level of interactivity in general. Only real exceptions were the few times when you went inside buildings, upon which it more or less became MGS2 again. I really loved the idea of being able to do things like blow up the guard supplies and then toss them a poison frog when they get hungry or things like the croco cap. Nothing like that in MGS2
But MGS3 guards AI is way better. They don't have the dumb limited vision range and they can hear your footsteps and other shit.
>Muh mother complex
>Muh epic villains with super powers
Shut up.
>Just because no one played MGS2 20+ times so they can remember every map PROVES that it is a bad game
Logic is not your strong suit, I take it. That wasn't very convincing.
Even if a game is an absolute masterpiece, that doesn't necessitate that people are going to play it to the point of rote memorization. Plus you could always have that one autistic person who loves a mediocre game and plays it a billion times and gets it memorized.
Only if you're a fag invested in the hay soap opera aspects. Thematically the story was concluded.
YOU'RE BRAINDEAD YOU SMELLY FUCK
Based OP
How so, it's not even the same plotline.
lol no.
MGS3 > MGS1 > MGS2
but all three games are masterpieces whose ranking literally just comes down to personal preference.
Reminder than snoy cucks are still mad about Twin snakes.
>Muh epic villains with super powers
You mean Fortune?
I wonder how the Solid era would have turned out if Gray Fox had Rising era tech.
why? its a steaming pile of shit.
Are 4 and 5 that bad when compared to the first 3 games or everyone is just memeing?
>but all three games are masterpieces whose ranking literally just comes down to personal preference.
in terms of story yeah, but if you think that about the gameplay you're a twit
What a dumb thing to wonder about.
Twin Snakes was the superior mgs1. Sony niggers can seethe all they want.
4 is really divisive and V is pretty far removed being more of a sequel to a PSP game than anything.
No I feel the same about the gameplay. The gameplay in each is about equal. I mean in MGS1 it's a lot more arcadey, but some people like that.
4 Is fine, and would have been great if Kojima actually ended it correctly.
Fuck Kojima's obsession with cutscenes, though.
>it's not even the same plotline.
That's why it fucked everything up. MG's continuity shifts its tone after and including MGS3.
2 was a ballsy, almost intentionally uncomfortable subversion of a sequel and a very thought provoking narrative whereas 3 was a fairly simple and self contained story essentially focused on two characters.
Every game after 3 followed the narrative of 3 rather than any previous stories.
>way better
You're kidding me right? The guards can hear your footsteps on the appropriate flooring too.
>dumb limited vision range
It's still the same fucking vision cone you fucking jackass and even when you're out of range the AI in 2 can still see you.
Peace Walker ended with a Loli piloting a mech somehow more advanced then Rex despite being 30 years earlier. This franchise is built to wonder about dumb things.
The Twin Snakes contrarianism on this board never fails to make me laugh. No one is mad lol. Nah, it's just a shitty remake that doesn't capture, the look, feel, or sound of the original. Play it all you want though.
4 was a gimmick fest and had the most melodramatic, ridiculous soap opera story of any video game I've ever played.
I only played GZ as far as V goes, it was alright, but
>1 map
Never played 4 but 5 was pretty dull. Beat MGS2 and 3 multiple times, killed the big bad in 5 and then stopped playing.
The only one that's shit is Peacewalker.
4 has the highest highs and lowest lows. When it's good, it's REALLY good, but it also is kinda a piece of garbage.
V is more a classic stealth game than a MGS game, story isn't important at all in it.
4 is improved 3 on a gameplay level but has no fucking gameplay. It's a literal movie game. 5 is a great first playthrough but god awful to replay.
hey now she wasn't a real loli
>2 ruined the story forever
oh no, the retard's gotten loose again.
4 has a longer average gameplay time than 3, although you may be able to make the argument that too much of it is essentially minigames.
The Phantom Pain came out four years ago yesterday. You feel the disappointment too, don't you?
>Ocelot was just planning to be liquid
Oh come on, this was good. MGS3 firmly established that Ocelot thought of Big Boss as a rival, so after Snake killed him, Ocelot decided to make Snake his rival. He does this by pretending to be liquid, so as to make Snake WANT to fight him.
But yeah the rest of MGS4 was p bad,
Nah it was alright
They're deeply flawed games but at least they do away with the jank the series suffered before.
V's story was too subtle for Yea Forums who wished for some epic fanfic drivel instead. It's also an obviously unpolished, rushed product and implements abominable mobage-tier base building mechanics that can thankfully be modded out.
4's gameplay to cutscene ratio is fucked beyond repair.
Doesn't really make any sense because he goes into his Liquid persona even when Snake isn't around. And I wanted to see where they would have taken it. What would have been Liquid's endgame for using the Guns of the Patriots or whatever?
The most disappointing thing about V was Troy Baker as Ocelot. Dude sounds absolutely nothing like either of the guys that voiced him before.
>MGS3 was peak story
The game is definitely entertaining, but its story is just your standard James Bond. It's nowhere near peak story.
>Liquid's endgame for using the Guns of the Patriots or whatever?
The more you try to understand why Ocelot contradicts himself in every single game the more you realize it doesn't actually make sense.
RAD stole the show in V but I can't say if it's because he did well or because Troy was just that shit.
The entire Liquid/Ocelot thing was so fucking stupid. Like, beyond retarded.
It has the best bosses
I like you. That is my biggest complaint too.
>tfw you like every mg and mgs game besides ac!d which you don't even know if you like because you never played it
Stay filtered plebs I'm not even a kojima fag I just like stealth games
It serves its purpose in the surrealness of 2's story and that's it.
3 isn't even bad. People just developed some stpid loveboner for Big Boss and Solid Snack got fucked out of his own series.
Not really
>solid snack
Lmfao Kojima haters are pathetic
I think Kojima kinda underestimated capitalism leading to more sequels he didn't want or at least expect to make.
The End
How can you hate the GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS ARADADADADDADADADADA
...and that’s a good thing.
What about the post-credits phone call.
Fear>Boss>End>Ocelot>Fury>Volgin>Pain>Shagohod
Just to hammer down the point that the Patriots are not people that can be killed, they are a system embedded into society
Fair enough for me.
But then mgs4 came along and now it can be seen both ways. I like mgs4 tho it's entertaining
Boss>Ocelot>End>Pain>Fury>Fear>Volgin>Shagohod
MGS2 is the biggest pleb filter in history
>capitalism
very based
Retarded brainlet.
