Honestly I hope he returns in XV too. I kind of wish SNK was able to afford doing the thing Smash Ultimate does where they keep all their fighters from past entries. Lots of characters from games like 02UM I wish could make a return. It never feels complete without the lot of them.
Tournament legal versions of boss characters like Rugal in 98 or Geese in XIV would be damn great too.

SNK historically is a company that used to rival Capcom back in the days of the 90s arcades. King of Fighters was more or less Street Fighter's rival back in the day. SNK amassed huge popularity among not just North American arcades, but especially Latin American, Chinese, Korean, etc. ones, because of international laws and easy to pirate hardware+software that made them hallmark items in public domain in those countries.
Imagine basically if SNK arcade machines were as frequent as those really cheap crane games you see at movie theaters, and imagine that for basically every building. That's how popular it was.
SNK is a huge part of gaming history. Especially since they were constantly moving shit forward when it came to the industry in several ways, especially in the art department when they were constantly clashing with Capcom to see who could raise the bar higher (e.g. this video youtube.com

I like the odd roster in some places(even if no Leona) and Oswald is legit one of my very fav fighting hand characters. I like that it’s basically a more refined version of 2003 who’s only good points over it are Leona, Yamasaki and being easier to emulate. As a kid and now I had an easier time getting into than most post ‘98 KOF games. Music is also great, tho I like 02UM’s OST just as much. It’s easily also my fav Atomiswave game.

I rented quite a lot of KoF games back in the day. Honestly they never made much of an impression on me like Samsho or WotM did at Cici's pizza. I just hope it ain't gay shit like Terry or Kyo. Played and liked a few of the Metal Slug games and those characters and world are good enough. SNK just never hit it big in the US so I can't say I'm excited
