Because stealth games are about level design, and most developers can't be bothered with level design anymore.

Hyper-linear corridors or giant empty open-worlds, no in-between.

Pretty sure Konami's working on the next MGS. That's the only worthwhile stealth series anyway.

I think it's this, most stealth games I played you really feel like you need to reset to the last checkpoint if you make even one mistake even if that's not actually the case. Probably why Assassin's Creed is the only one that's still going other than Hitman, those games barely ever punish you in any way

This.
The laziness is a problem in almost every genre of game.

Nah I quite liked the Thief series, discovered it during this summer. People of my age don't play stealth because modern gaming is filled with anything but stealth. I'm sure if Thief makes a comeback it will attract us.

>Games where half of your time is spent in forced action setpieces and watching cutscenes
>Stealth

It already tried to make a comeback back in 2014.
The end product was garbage that nobody liked.

stealth games died out around the same time devs started only making soulless games

And? The other half of the time is stealth. They stopped doing that after V anyway.

And the stealth mechanics are incredibly shallow. V is the only passable game in the series.

CHECK IT

This doesn't make any sense

are you implying linear games don't have level design? you fucking idiot

I actually beat Blood Money yesterday
Man that game had a way of forcing you into doing things one way while simultaneously making it seem like there are more options than there actually are

Just as an example, that casino level where you have to kill an Afrikanner who's bringing a briefcase to a deal with a sheikh that you also have to kill. The Afrikanner is pretty easy to catch in the elevator or in the bathroom, but then you go and get his briefcase in his room and do the deal with the shiekh. I couldn't find out a way to kill the shiekh other than shooting him once the meeting was over. And then you have to take out his scientist after that. I sniped at the scientist in his hotel room from an opposite facing room, but none of my shots ever connected even if I lined up the sights perfectly, some weird scripting involved, I think (as a test, I sniped one of his guards in an adjacent room and killed the guard first try). I had to go up to his floor to kill him, but the only way I found out to do that is to follow the courier after the sheikh's meeting because there didn't seem to be another way to get an 8th floor key card. And then even when I got the card, the guard up there acted like I didn't have one, so I needed a casino staff uniform to get past him. Just a mess of a level

Is this a pasta?

I guess they decided that Stealth really only works as it's own stage in a much bigger action game. Kind of like the Mary Jane sections in Spider-man ps4.

open world skinner boxes took over the industry. Why make a well designed stealth game when you can make a wide open box that keeps players addicted.

all video games are skinner boxes

is every decently sized post a pasta to you?

That's not different to any other type of game or any type of entertainment

Why is it always anons who post images like this, that are the ones who also can't read for shit?
Why are illiterates attracted to these particular visuals so strongly?

Unironically, yes. People seldom put that much effort into posts on Yea Forums.

Ah okay so you were saying "no in-between" hyperbolically.

Ironically, Fortnite is a pretty stealthy game. You can play it like that at least.
