They don't. You can grind until your fingers fall off. Certain event courses only allow a certain number of completions per rotation though.

But it actually has value. Powercreep in a physical card game matters much less than powercreep in a gach game. If it happens in a gacha you now have a completely useless unit, whereas a powercrept physical card still has value in legacy formats, resale and collection.

You have a 7% rate to roll a 5* which is about as high as gacha get.

But you can treat it like a gacha if that's what you want, and get a lot more value than you would from mobile gachas.
The only advantage it has is being "free", with the consequence of the game shoving the paid shit down your throat and the people actually shelling out making more progress than you. This is especially bad in PvP games.

the poverty characters given in the campaign are just as good as the current 5* gacha characters. Korrina is actually the preferred character to use to grind the highest tier material right now, but she has a lucario so that's kind of a given.

Is Phoebe good? I rolled her first day

She can recoil herself with Double-Edge to low HP, at which point her Unbreakable Bonds! skill will be at maximum potential and max out your entire party's Attack after two turns. She's also really bulky and will soak up hits, but that's at odds with her damaging herself, so you'll get more use out of her with another tank like Rosa taking the hits while Phoebe boosts the party. With them together, that's like four move gauge refills and Rosa also gives +4 Sp. Atk to the whole party on top of Phoebe's +6 Atk and +2 Crit. While it would be nice to be able to heal Phoebe, Double-Edge is pretty strong and you'll hopefully have a striker of some sort making use of all these gains. I personally made use of Infernape who has equal Attack and Sp. Atk along with his own crit boosting and can max out his Sp. Atk with Rosa assisting. Just max him out and start spamming Fire Blast.

Lucarrio team is all about killing the enemies before they can do their super moves. Spamming skill moves will reduce the super moves counter rapidly.

Is it a great game? No, it's a grindy gacha game that kills time. The actual mainline games have been declining for years, but at least I don't have to pay for this. There are redeeming aspects to this, and chances are it'll only get better, but I don't mind getting a head start for when it becomes a worthwhile game.

Lucarrio setup is just to spam skill moves till he mega evovled, then kill the center pokemon before it could even mega.
