It's alright but I like the originals more.

FPBP

It's garbage, basically Doom 3 but "modernized" and with le rip and tear memes.

It was doomed from the start

It's a doom game for people who never actually played doom.

I liked the look and sound of it very much.
Some weapon mods and runes are very fun(infinite ammo triple turret chaingun, as an example) though they can greatly overshadow other options to where they seem pointless.

Probably deserved GOTY over the shit fest that was Overwatch

>not a smash thread
sage

I really liked it.
Can't wait for Eternal.

>basically Doom 3 but "modernized"
Have you even played either of these games? I'm not gonna even give a (you) to this bait.

This

>and with le rip and tear memes.
But I also unabashedly like these.

It stinks. Shit soundtrack. Shit enemy designs. The gameplay consists of coming into an open room that then spawns 4 waves of enemies. Rinse and repeat. Game sucks ass.

It was a FUN (remember this word?) that the habitually contrarian Yea Forums will only recognise as such when doom eternal comes out and will once again be the worst thing that has happened in the history of everything
repeat ad naseum
No you do not fit in like this

Found it a tad disorienting. I have no issues with games like Vanquish or F-Zero GX so no idea what the deal was.

Improvement on the originals in every way, the best DOOM experience.

>same boring sci fi machinery atmosphere
>same boring almost monochrome enemy color palette
>cutscenes cutscenes cutscenes
>also has a (low) cap on simultaneous enemies because muh graphix takes priority
Need me to keep going?

It was fucking amazing, beat it 3 times. I liked the Glory Kills, especially when you get increased range, you can just dash into enemies from super far away. It's pure unadulterated FUN which I've been missing from the rpgs I usually play.

Put it all out there.

I've been playing it recently. If not for the movement (running feels a bit too slow and there's a bunch of random shit around the environment including the terrain itself that stops you in your tracks and kills your momentum like when you're about to make a jump), and some unskippable exposition then the game would have been close to perfect.

I played classic DOOM for the first time a few years ago and even then I thought it was one of the best FPS games I've ever played. It felt pure in the same way Tetris also feels like a pure video game. You just pick it up and play, the pacing is consistent and there's no bullshit in-between.
Having said that, I still consider DOOM 2016 to be a good game at the very least. It looks good, runs smoothly, gunplay is satisfying. The usual reactionary/contrarian/cynical faggots can fuck right off.

i really enjoyed it, i had a lot of fun with the multiplayer too

The gameplay itself is superior to DOOM and DOOM 2 but the size of the game is too small and doesn't lend itself to feeling like the ride never ends. That being said:

2016>D1>TPE>D2>TNTE>D64

Attached: 1565351519776.png (371x353, 148K)

They are completely different games from a gameplay and design standpoint. Saying D44M is modernized Doom 3 is blatantly false because they only share surface level traits and are vastly different games. You don't have to make wild shit up if you wanna shit on Doom 2016, just fucking do it.

I liked the Demon designs from the first two more

>D1 above D2
>64 below anything but 2016 and D2

Yup, I'm thinking it's cringe.

I thought it was great and I'm hyped for Doomy Turnal.

Doesn't replace the originals but it doesn't have to.

I don't know what it is, it just doesn't feel good to shoot stuff for me. All the enemies either go down too easy or feel like bullet sponges, and the glory kills never feel satisfying to pull off.

Have sex.

Shit’s rad, and the new lore’s kinda cool for once. Solid 8/10.

>They are completely different games from a gameplay and design standpoint.
Not really. Same design philosophy for the enemies, mostly the same weapons, same basic gameplay design. Just because 2016 has more vertical movement doesn't make it SO DIFFERENT IT'S LIKE A WHOLE OTHER GENRE.

>same basic gameplay design
It is not. Doom 3 was based around having the player feel tense most of the time, limited ammunition and generally less powerful than your enemies until late game. Doom 2016 is based around you being as powerful as possible from the get go, with the game progression being that you become more powerful. One is based around the lighting engine and the general isolation (There is a reason why Doom 3 gets comparisons to System Shock) and the other is based around combat. Just look at the level design for both games to see where the priorities lied.
Doom should be the middle ground between the two. Demons are powerful, but not to the point where you yourself are powerless.

>as powerful as possible from the get go
>with the game progression being that you become more powerful
Does not compute.
>There is a reason why Doom 3 gets comparisons to System Shock
Who the fuck compares Doom 3 to System Shock?
>Just look at the level design for both games to see where the priorities lied.
Oh yeah, Doom 3 had actual maps instead of the good ol' arenas separated by corridors.

Good, aside from one extreme flaw:

The gun is not center like in the originals.

you can set it that way.

Attached: 379720_20190821042117_1.png (1920x1080, 2.8M)

It really is a completely different kind of shooter though, it's like comparing GoW to CoD.
Doom 3 tended to throw a couple enemies at once in claustrophobic locations, and your health and ammo was a very limited resource you had to carefully manage. DOOM was more open and liked sending many enemies at once that usually try to rush you down or barrage you with attacks while giving you tons of ammo to barf bullets on the enemy. One forces you to be strategic, the other forces you to think quick under pressure.

>Monster closet jumpscares and narrow hallways vs arenas
>dozen cutscenes vs three cutscenes
>No color vs Reds and Greens and Blues
>Basically a fucking snail w/o sprint THAT CAN RUN OUT vs relatively quick movement
>Garbage fodder zombies everywhere vs zombies kept out of your way
>Enemies mostly obvious movements vs enemies that can actually move around competently
>pitch black vs visible
>enemies often obscured by lack of lighting vs enemies clear and distinct always tell at a glance what you are facing by silhouette
>Forced walk n' chats + a FUCKING ESCORT mission vs none of that shit
>system shock knock off vs an fps game
>horror bullshit vs straightforward fps gameplay
>listening to audio logs to get some gay fucking code for some fucking locker oh but it's a different locker fuck you vs good secrets
>visibility is the only threat vs enemies are the only threat
>can barely jump vs can jump
>rarely hear the music because they want ambient horror bullshit vs actually hearing the music for the game
>space corridors, then space corridors, then space corridors vs actually varied arena designs with unique layouts
>weapons nerfed because they wanted horror/system shock bullshit vs every weapon is useful

There are many things to shit on Doom 2016 for like the arena focused design but you cannot honestly say that it is anything like Doom 3.

>Oh yeah, Doom 3 had actual maps instead of the good ol' arenas separated by corridors.
Doom 3 was entirely corridors until the final boss arena.

>and your health and ammo was a very limited resource you had to carefully manage
Health, maybe. Doom3guy's total potential health pool isn't as large as other doomguys', but there are plenty of medkits, armor, and health stations throughout Doom 3 and its expansion.
Ammo, however, is extremely plentiful vs the amount of enemies you face. Even in the levels where you lose your gear, you're quickly loaded up with more than enough supplies to breeze through fights without worry.

>doom 3 had actual maps

lmfaooo just say you didnt play the game user

this

>Play the demo
>Annoying NPC tries to exposition dump a boring and cliche story on Doomguy, Doomguy immediately (nonverbally) tells him to fuck off by just smashing the comm panel, in an obvious jab at overly long boring cutscenes distracting you from the action in gaming

>Play the full game
>Annoying NPC locks you in a room at least once a level so you can listen to him drawl out a paragraph or two of why it's bad that you broke the Argent Tower or why Olivia was a danger to everyone, there's even a scene where you have to slowly walk-and-talk into his office with him and jump around on his desk and chairs for nearly five minutes while he rambles about a stone tablet
>It's done completely unironically

Attached: 1452299536368.gif (400x287, 549K)

Dilate.

>at least once a level
???

there are a few short info dump cutscenes every once in awhile, but the only two significant, lengthy info dumps in the game are hayden's first infodump in resource ops and meeting him face to face. Everything else barely halts the action by comparison.

I've played doom 2016 a lot.

Perhaps Eternal will be better about that.

Yeah this was kind of strange. They should have made you able to also walk away from those. They're few and far between, but it would have been more characteristic of Doomguy if you could simply turn around and pry the door open and move on to the next level.

It absolutely won't be, they've talked about adding more story and they're clearly showing off more cutscenes.

I honestly expect them to be pushing their gay "DOOM UNIVERSE" lore shit harder in Eternal, especially with Heaven and the demon doomslayer with an axe.

I I don't know.I never played it IT.

This. It's far from a bad game, but it's not really anything special. Still looking forward to Eternal.

I'm glad we can agree that DOO-DOOM is for adhd faggots and that the original is for deep, though-provoking gameplay.

Never finished it.

>reputation of doom has always been aggressive, kill-everything gameplay
>it's actually a slow, methodical dungeon crawler unless the map maker gives you a shitload of ammo and turns it into a slaughterwad

interesting
