Because Platinum and Nintendo do good shit together.

Shilling aside is it actually fun though? I've been meaning to get a switch to play FE and BotW but can't justify paying about $400 for the switch itself and like $90 for each game, I hear the combat is barebones as hell and the story isn't really that great.

>$90 for each game

How do japanese composers put out this cool as fuck soundtracks but westerners only do dull shit? Is there some secret chink academy for composing I'm not aware of?

Leafland

The combat is only barebones in the first two chapters that are basically just a giant tutorial. The amount of moves, tricks and Legions you get near the end can actually get kind of overwhelming. As for the story, it's standard shonen stuff. It's basically just there to let hype moments happen in the game. The story itself might not be very great, but the cast and (most) side quests are actually pretty cool.

Best Pt Games plot ever barring Nier Automata, strong Evangelion vibes, if you're into this stuff, it's amazing, if you're into western dull Far Cry shit, don't bother

I thought the game ran reasonably fine until I got to File 08. I think the performance managed to get down to single digits in that plaza area.

It is
It's weird because it definitely takes it slow in the beginning in the first two cases, even after you get your Legion you don't ACTUALLY get it until the 3rd File.
After that, it's basically just banger after banger of good ass missions (though 8 has a lot of investigation stuff, which may rub people the wrong way).
It's definitely one of the weirder games Platinum has made because it's simultaneously it's own unique thing while havign elements of all past Platinum games.
>combat is barebones
I think people who say this never investigate the mechanics beyond the first basic combo they get
The first stuff you get taught in combat is the basic AAAAA combo (here, done with the right trigger) but it opens up a ton if you know what to upgrade.
The real meat of the gameplay is in 2-3 other systems
>sync attacks
basically, at the end of certain moves or combos, you'll get the opportunity to hit Left Trigger and do a synchronized attack with your Legion which usually depends on which of the 5 legions you have out, which of the 3 weapons you're using and the specific context that the sync attack was triggered (end of a basic combo, during a charge/heavy attack, part of a pause-combo, part of a summon counter, etc)
These are the equivalent of Wicked Weaves but they're more on command and more interesting for how specific some of their usages are.
>Chain attacks
you and your legion have a tether between you at all times, you can use this tether for different mechanics, be that movement options by having your faster legion drag you to wherever it is or using your legion to let you jump and do aerial combos or tying enemies together to immobilize them or tethering multiple enemies for a bounce attack or countering enemies' charge attacks
