Reminder that the genophage didn't even completely castrate the krogan. The krogan laid thousands of eggs at once and the genophage just made it so only a small number of them survived. If the krogan weren't retarded apes they still had a completely manageable and reasonable birth rate, but because they can't stop killing each other they're going extinct.
