Am I the only one who thinks Ryu Hayabusa is a great addition for Smash...but a boring addition for the DLC?
I don't see him generating too much buzz overall. Historical Significance he has in spades, cool remixes, cool moveset potential but for DLC it just doesn't carry nay oomph to it.
Joker was shocking, Banjo & Kazooie were seen as unlikely and havent had a game in years, and Dragon Quest is a massive franchise in Japan. and Ninja Gaiden is still going along but isnt huge in any way, most people think the insanely hard NES games when they hear the name. I think he'd be better as a base game addition.
I honestly don’t think he’ll be a unique edition. Then again, I didn’t think Hero would be either but he’s def one of the most unique fighters in the game so maybe Sakurai will pull him off properly
Austin Sullivan
He’d just be a shitty hybrid between Greninja and Sheik, so boring
Isaac Walker
I think he'd be a surprise if only because he hasn't had a game come out in a long time and it's been even longer since he had a good one. Hoping his inclusion (if it's happening) is a sign of new life being breathed into the franchise.
Cooper Powell
T. Hasn't played a ninja gaiden game
Xavier Ramirez
I played the original NES and I have Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
Nathaniel Mitchell
Sure bud
Thomas Butler
I feel the same way, like he'd be great as a base game character but I can't imagine what they would do to put his additional content on par with the other DLC fighters
Parker Rogers
Hayabusa's reveal is going to be fucking overshadowed by the Kasumi echo reveal in his trailer. It's going to be another Simon/Richter scenario.
Christian Reyes
>Ninja Gaiden stage >exploding armadillo in background and if you dont shield you die
Jonathan Davis
Do you think they'd bring in his weapons and skills from the later games or would they just stick to the classic stuff?
Thomas Butler
Kasumi is never happening
Jose Morales
>caring about how hype a character is gay
Jason Reyes
I'm in 100% agreement
He absolutely, without a doubt, 100% belongs in Smash Bros. But immediately following either the stone cold obvious choices of Hero or Banjo Kazooie, or the outside-the-box "What, oh fuck WHAT?" x-factor of Joker, Hayabusa just feels...tame.
Wyatt Harris
Do you care more about reveals than the actual characters?
Mason Parker
Nothing will cause as much craziness as Banjo did. Not anymore. Ryu is one of the last remaining classic characters that should be here.
Cooper Campbell
>shill pick that doesn’t represent series >boring swordsman >meme character This DLC hasn’t been very good so far and generic ninja man wouldn’t help, plant is unironically the best DLC character so far
Aaron Bennett
>Nothing will cause as much craziness as Banjo did What about Scorpion?
Caleb Wood
More people would want Ryu over Joker
Michael Perez
The problem is you can't ever be pleased you dumb fuck
Christian Stewart
he has multiple weapons, several ninja arts like the flame wheel, the clones, and the boomerang shuriken, and the izuna drop. How is he not unique?
Jackson Kelly
I love the first three so far though.
Grayson Ramirez
Nah. It would be a big moment, but Banjo, K. Rool and Ridley were pipe dream characters for millions of fans for over a decade.
>doesn't represent series How does the protag of NG not represent NG you fucking spoon
Xavier Cruz
Would be perfectly fine with him. My only issue would be I would then want Dante to get in to complete the Brawler trifecta.
Easton Nelson
That's why it won't be Ryu, Nintendo has been picking the shittiest characters as dlc to generate "hype".
I'd love to see Ryu, but I can see people already saying who the hell is Ryu, and that's not what smash is about. We're probably getting something like Tracer/Doom guy/master chief.
Luis Jenkins
higher desire for validation due to overexposure to social media
Jacob Gonzalez
Because everyone thinks they're special nowadays, especially in the age of social media where "everyone has a voice".
Oliver Ramirez
He is referring to joker. Who is a relatively poor representation of the entire purse owner franchise.
Isaiah Gutierrez
Was talking about Joker not representing Persona, Hero being a boring swordsman, and Banjo being a meme character
Christian Nguyen
Don't care, Hayabusa is one of my most wanteds so I'd be significantly more excited for him than I was for Joker and Hero
Who else would they pick? And don't say jack frost or some dumb shit since the point of Persona is a person and their persona fighting in tandem. Persona 5 is also the most popular game so the protagonist from it is an obvious choice
Adrian Wilson
Having one RNG shitfest special doesn’t change the fact all of his other moves are Link 4.0
Christian Hughes
same reason why mid-late millenials say shit like "Only 90s kids..."
Liam Cox
Unless they're announcing a new NG and a DoA6 port, he's not going to generate buzz
William Baker
>link None of his other specials are even remotely Link's either
Brody Wright
Are you people retarded? There's already a Ryu in the game.
Zachary Anderson
>link can shoot fireballs >link can summon lightning >link can summon tornados
I think DLC characters have to be inherently appealing on their own, to be worth the purchase, and I think Sakurai goes out of his way to make them that way. They really can't just *be*, they have to have that "wow" factor to justify the purchase, and in turn, the cost of development. If you want to interpret that as "Hype" for the "reveals", then so be it.
Joker was an awesome "What the fuck" addition in the same vein as Cloud and Bayonetta. Banjo and Hero were to MASSIVE names from either side of the ocean that were obvious, glaring omissions to the video game history that Smash draws from. I think that's why people are so fixated on Doomguy and Reimu (and to a lesser extent, Chris Redfield and Hatsune Miku, and even, as much as I hate to say it, Minecraft Steve), because those are the only real characters left that fit that description of stone-cold icons and/or left-field choice that makes perfect sense. Ryu is almost there, but not quite. His presence would certainly enrich any roster he might be a part of, but I'm not sure anybody's really chomping at the bit to play him *right now*, like the other DLCs. For me, he's kinda on the same level as, like, Mike Jones from Star Tropics, or Bub and Bob from Bubble Bobble. Would I be hype as fuck if they were added to a Smash Bros game? Absolutely. Would I be compelled to spend an extra $5 each for the experience? Eeeh.
Alternate costumes don't count. Yes, I moved the goalpost, fuck you.
Justin Allen
>link can summon tornadoes he could in brawl and smash 4
Evan Taylor
Wow it's almost as if different people find different things exciting. But regardless of that, you are SEVERELY downplaying the importance of Ninja Gaiden, it's almost disgusting. >One of the original 'NES hard' games, going on to influence the likes of Dark Souls and countess indies >One of the first primitive games to feature cutscenes >NES games were so popular that a trilogy was made, became one of the most iconic names in vidya >Years later, makes a return with Ninja Gaiden Black and becomes one of the most iconic names in vidya AGAIN. >NGB Was a huge influence on action games, is a part of the 'action trilogy' >Brought hard games back into the mainstream for a second time. You might not find him exciting, and that's fine. But comparing him to fucking bub and bob is an insult.
Grayson Gray
>Two Mario's >Three Link's >Two Samus'
Carter Carter
All have different names, doesn't count.
Gabriel Rodriguez
'Ryu Hayabusa' and 'Ryu' are different names
Adrian Butler
>Am I the only one no you special snowflake ass bitch, you aren't "the only one" but you're absolutely wrong, ryu is gay that blue kimono DoA girl would be the better choice as a Koei Tecmo rep we have enough Ryus and bara reps in smash as it is
since when was Dark Souls influenced by Ninja Gaiden? You can compare the difficulties of both titles but AFAIK the Souls games were inspired by Ico and SOTC more than anything else
Tyler Wood
You want to hear the announcer say "Ryu Hayabusa" every time you pick him?
Zachary Reyes
Do you really think that would stop them?
Grayson Jones
Based shit taste-kun
Matthew James
>'Rosalina And Luma I think I can live with it
Ethan Butler
if you actually have to include a characters last name middle name and maiden name then that literal who is not iconic enough to be in smash
My point is Ninja Gaiden kept difficulty in vidya prominent for years. The new difficulty craze with from games can therefore be tracked back to Ninja Gaidens influence. I'm not saying souls was ONLY influenced by Ninja Gaiden but it has importance in the gaming sphere
Joseph Robinson
Based retard >It would be weird to have two Ryus >Fair enough, in that case call him Ryu Hayabusa >YOU'RE ONLY ADDING THE LAST NAME BECAUSE NOBODY WOULD KNOW WHO HE IS OTHERWISE Stupid, stupid anime poster
Sebastian Nguyen
I certainly don't mean to downplay the importance of the series, or the hype some individuals might feel
It really just comes down to marketability. These characters have to stand on their own to justify the price. And do you think as many people are frothing at the mouth to spend 5 bucks on this character, as they are for Banjo Kazooie? Not likely.
Levi Turner
>It would be weird to have two Ryus i never said that faggot, there's literally 2 Roys my point is having to put a characters last name is fucking retarded end of discussion
>Ryu Hayabusa can't 'stand on his own' because reasons? >Dragon Quest is a huge name from vidya so he's a justified choice but Ninja Gaiden isn't justified because reasons? All of your arguments are anecdotal
Henry Scott
DQ is one of the biggest fanchises in Japan literal Eva tier cultural phenomenon
Ninja who featuring Ryu literal who is nothing. he literally has to be put in and leach off KT's bigger franchise DoA
Anthony Perez
You fucking smoothbrain The only reason I proposed 'Ryu Hayabusa' as the name was because other retards complained that there is already a 'Ryu' I'm reality, it doesn't matter what he's called. Nobody with an IQ I'm triple digits unironically thinks that he would NEED to have 'Hayabusa' Get lost you stupid, stupid capeshit poster
>He doesn't know Ninja Gaiden Fuck off casual, refer to my previous post for some education.
Dylan Lopez
>Ninja Gaiden kept difficulty in vidya prominent for years fucking how? The series sold like shit for years and every game in recent years was met with poor reviews. More people know NG from the NES games than any of the modern titles and that's solely due to how tediously hard they are >The new difficulty craze with from games can therefore be tracked back to Ninja Gaidens influence. >Ninja Gaiden is the only game franchise that focused on challenge and difficulty christ
Ninja Gaiden Black was critically acclaimed and is still considered one of the best action games of all time you casual zoomer faggot
Isaiah Johnson
Then you have no right to comment on Hayabusa's worth as a smash character.
Juan Walker
and that was over a decade ago AND it still sold like ass
Nicholas Brown
Kasumi isn’t that popular either.
Juan Johnson
Your point?
Jace Richardson
Sales don't mean shit. Unless you're wanting the roster to be dominated by FIFA teams and CoD people.
Ethan Morris
he has no worth, him and his games are flops
Jace Sanchez
Your opinion is irrelevant
Ethan Anderson
my point is that it's a washed up franchise that doesn't stack up to the other heavy hitters of the DLC as a base game character he'd be fine, but as something you have to pay for? Fuck off
Hunter Cox
just like rywho
Ayden Barnes
Next pack is SNK so this discussion is now moot You're still wrong though
