What does SH need to do to correct course?
Silent Hill Thread
Well, if history has tought us something is that western devs can't make a competent SH.
remake silent hill 1
leave no room for sequels and decanonize anything that isn't 1 or 3
not be owned by a company that actively hates it and most of their other IPs
let silent hill die and disregard anything that came out after 4
there's no need to bring it back
make something new instead
Nothing, its over
Peak creativity of the 90s is no longer allowed. It's over. Only hollywood-esque movieshite from now on.
Sell the IP to Capcom and keep American devs away from it.
This. Horror sequels usually blow.
can that thing even move
The irony of this post is delicious.
SH1-3 was lightning in a bottle. will go down as the best video game trilogy ever. let it rest, nothing will ever be as good
finally someone with at least half a brain.
we need new shit.
but not fucking movies.
good horror games have to be good games first.
I'm right after meeting an old hag in the church, before heading over to the bridge in SH1. Does it get better? I'm about 3 hrs in and all I've been doing is get item->unlock door, no cutscenes, no lore tidbits in random books, nothing.
No, thats the whole game
I think what John Carmack said is pretty spot on about how a lot of modern games are basically over-refined and "focus grouped" to death
The original games in virtual reality
Only the really expensive AAA games do that and it's perfectly reasonable for them to want some reassurances they aren't just flushing $60 million down the toilet. That is a lot of money.
>drunk guy stuck in bed sheets
>not head-up-ass man
hey anyone have a pirate link for SH4 on PC
The atmosphere and sound design mainly propel the first game. 2 and 3 are better for the kind of things you are looking for.
have you not seen the new resident evil? Go take a gander.
Nothing, let it rest, we had 4 solid games and I believe you can only tell the same story so many times until it gets boring. Everything after SH4 tried to either continue with the cult lore or mimick SH2 and each time was underwhelming or downright fucking dumb. Perhaps Silent Hill doesn't have as much liberty as we think it does, and while I think the concept of a character personal hell is interesting I don't think it lends to many iterations because like I said, you wind up telling the same story overall.
IF you need to continue, it'd have to be a complete reset with the original writers behind it and designers.
Silent Hill was ripping off a Hollywood movie aesthetically and the plot itself is not exactly imaginative. I've played dozens of games about a cult getting up to shenanigans and bringing about the end of the world. Calling Silent Hill "peak creativity" while bemoaning the "hollywood-esque movieshite from now on" is retarded. Silent Hill is about as creative and removed from Hollywood as Dead Space.
That's a bit disappointing. I wanted to play every entry since I liked SH2 so much but SH1 has been a chore so far.
Not sure whether I should power through this or switch to SH3.
Try to appreciate 1 just for what it does well. Maybe you'll see that 2 and 3 have some downsides instead of wanting them all to be the same.
Wait which one did you start with?
The first game.
