i was disappointed when I listened to the rest of the songs on the album and none of them sounded like that
literally their only good song
CUZ I MADE THE MAN WHO LAID HIS HANDS ON YOU
AND ID TEAR HIM DOWN BUT ID FEEL LIKE A DEAD MAN
AND WHAT CAN A DEAD MAN DO
I'm going to see them live in over a week, what am I in for?
>didn't like the hounds
>didn't like breaking out
>didn't like keep quiet
>didn't enjoy the more somber songs
>doesn't understand the point of a fucking rock opera
literally retarded
you have objectively shit taste. get your ears checked you deaf monkey fucker
MACHINES CAN KEEP YOU BREATHIN BUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FIND OUT A NEW WAR'S BEGUN
shut the fuck up and piss off with your entry level synthwave artist
while plenty of other songs are good he's right that Light Up The Night sounds totally different from all their other works
Protomen are trash, listen to something like Streets of Fire if you want their bullshit but actually done well by competent musicians and singers.
yo fuck u
they're absolutely insane showmen. be prepared for one hell of a ride, not just musically but in every other aspect as well. they get up on stage, full costume, act shit out, interact with the audience and throw in some improv here and there
>UHH I ONLY LISTEN TO BINAURAL WHALECORE GRINDTHRESH SUPERBEAT AND HOW THE FUCK DARE YOU ENJOY ANY OTHER KIND OF MUSIC????????
>synthwave
what
An excellent live show. Saw them live back when Act 2 was new and they were dynamite
>band uses synths so they're synthwave
how retarded can one person be lmfao
it's rock first and foremost, rock opera, with some prog and heavy rock undertones
I liked the last 3 songs of the album and The Hounds, but I agree with you otherwise. And the first album is horrible.
Still, a couple great songs is better than none.
>Act 2 release date: Sept 8, 2009
Where is Act 3? I've been waiting 10 years.
they're too busy touring over and over again. act 3 never. a man can hope, but you know what they say about that
>rock opera
holy fuck, never knew such a gay thing exists
This city's awake like a baby
Crying out of a mother's womb
Machines can keep you squinting
With the blinding fury of the endless sun
Flip a switch and turn it on
You won't be able to see
Now there's some sweet little irony
I've got this burning like my veins
Are filled with cancerous vitamin D
And with a spark it's gonna be
The lamest dawn you've ever seen
Cut me down or let me run
Either way, night must return
The only way that they'll ever learn
We gotta turn it off
Flip a switch
And darken the night
There is a mood that this sunlight can't hide
There are the embers of a feel that's gone out
But I can still feel the rain on my skin
And this mess we're in
Where you and I...
Maybe you and I...
We can make it right...
Maybe we can bring back the night
(AT THE HEART OF THE CITY)
At the heart of the city
There is a studio that looks down over all there is
(AND THE MAN IN THE STUDIO CONTROLS IT ALL)
And the man in the studio controls it all
Checking through the Bethesda checklist
(IT'S LIKE THEY'VE GATHERED UP THE CITY AND NOW)
It's like they've gathered up the city
Sold it to Rockstar and now
It looks like shit and they wonder how
(IT LOOKS LIKE SHIT AND THEY WONDER HOW OoooOOOoooOOOoooOOOH)
Well a friend once told me
Men, the solution is to gather the space-time seals
(NOW THE SEALS ARE SHIFTING OUT OF CONTROL)
Now the seals are shifting out of control
What would they do if we held them still?
(IF YOU ENCLOSE THE TIMELINE CHARTS)
If you enclose the timeline charts
We'll make sure the sunshine stays unseen
And all the daylightards get the guillotine
(AND ALL THE DAYLIGHTARDS GET THE GUILLOTINE)
We can bring back the night
(BRING BACK THE NIGHT)
There is a mood that this sunlight can't hide
There is a dark that will swallow the streets of the city
And we will stand in the dark, we will stand in the dark
You and I
You and I
We can bring back the night
>He could not save himself, how could he save us?
>for all the good he shed-
AND AS I LOOK
>your brother failed us
THERE IS NO EVIL THAT WILL STAND
>there's nothing you could do
AND I WILL FINISH...
>you had no choice
WHAT WAS STARTED...
>why do you cry for him?

These are total ass, but Built to Last and Phantom Racer are fantastic. Act 3's quality could be anywhere.
I like The Hounds a bit better than Light Up The Night, do I have shit taste?
considering breaking out is the best song on the album yes
Whatever, the game would be garbage even if it didn't look as bland as it looks now. It would still be open world trash. Nothing of value was lost.
Acceptable. To me it goes
1) Light up the Night
2) The Hounds
3) Light up the Night followed by The Fall + Here Comes The Arm
Nothing else is worth mentioning
IF THESE PEOPLE
TELL THIS STORY
TO THEIR CHILDREN
AS THEY SLEEP
MAYBE SOMEDAY
THEY'LL SEE A HERO
IS JUST A MAN
WHO KNOWS HE'S FREE
They've apparently been recording Act III over the past year or two between tours. No real word on when they plan on dropping the album, though.
No idea why it's taken them 10 years, other than just not being in any particular hurry.
Keep Quiet > Breaking Out
>it's rock first and foremost, rock opera, with some prog and heavy rock undertones
Too bad they aren't good at any of those. You're better off listening to the acts that they're ripping off.
>he doesn't like rock operas
Look at this little queer.
I love the song, but after putting it in my thumbs up playlist, I have started to really get sick of it
maybe it's kind of repetitive
I don't know
Their work only went downhill after ACT I.
what, literally the song right before it is very similar
the entirety of act 2 is pretty great though, act 1 is also very good with the exception of like the first and last track
Built to Last was Turbo Lover and Phantom Racer was mostly TWRP. It's not gonna be at that level without that guy unless they picked up a dude who can write time signature shifts no problem.
youtube.com
Got any recommendations for other rock operas?
Whoa, they're not good enough to be mainstream but they're talking about my video games!

Jesus Christ Superstar

So I've heard. The venue they're playing at is fairly small and intimate so expecting great things
Nice, amazing they're still touring so much of the first two Acts
Shit, which show son? Dublin here
The album, sure, but skip the play.
Even now there is hope for man.
The engine's running, baby
We don't have time for goodbyes
I know you can't come with me
I see that look in your eyes
So kiss me fast
Cause there's no time to lose
Leave the light on
I'll come back for you
When everything is said and done
I swear I'm gonna make it right
Hold back the night is probably my favorite song of then
if act 3 keeps this good its going to be great
Second part of Act 2 > Act 1 > First part of Act 2
This city made us is like 10x better than hold back the night honestly, I don't get your taste m8
Th first part of Act 2 is better than the second part. The Good Doctor is the best song on that album.
Seen 'em live twice. What a fucking experience.
MY FATHER'S WORDS.
did i get then confused?
witch one is roll singing with DR light?
100% agree with War of the Worlds
Implying I know the lore of who the fucks meant to be singing. Hold back the night is the fat girl singing the vast majority, this city made us is the dude singing the verse and both singing the chorus, much more guitar and faster than hold back the night

WILL FADE AWAYYYYYYYYYY
I hope they release ACT III soon.
The Will of One is still hype as shit even after all these years.
listen to pandora's box original sin
>The Will of One is still hype as shit even after all these years.
It sure is, was the song that sold me on them desu. Probably true for most I guess
>Someone has written on this stone, in some angry hand

ALOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE
The Hounds is good tho
youtu.be
The original movie from the 70's is fantastic. Carl Anderson's voice is amazing. The 2000 one is so god awful that I can't understand how anyone thinks its good.

I don't have to tell you things are bad. We know things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work, or scared of losing their job. A dollar buys a nickel's worth. Banks are going bust. Shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street, and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it.
>"i love protomen!"
There's a Lovecraft one I personally like
youtube.com
I highly recommend anything by Ayreon. Not only is every album a fantastic rock album, but they are all continuations of the same story.
I didn't even know they were playing in Dublin, booked a damn flight to london
Are you Irish yourself? They're playing in the Grand Social, first leg of their EU tour I think
NOW WE SHALL SEE
YOU ARE NOT EVIL
TOKYOOOO
>I-I swear that I'm not a loser who listens exclusively to video game soundtracks! Look, I listen to Protomen. You know, real music, heh..
I have no lofty love to sustain, no barrage of good intentions to bestow to anyone. This world rolls and gives rise to the most vile, horrendous enterprises. I’m tired. I fling my sore body into room-after-room, feeling no real change in atmosphere, no warm coddle of summer breeze, no refreshing burst of winter air, only all these inklings of life transposed into a fugue of despair to be played incessantly from broken speakers; the hiss of it all degrades my hearing, the shine of uncertainty blinds my vision. These screens offer nothing to me now. I’ve become a transhumanist slowly erecting markets for all my worldly senses. How much longer can I buy into my own undoing?
It’s painful to see these corridors dwindle, only allowing entrance to backways where denizens clamoring for another tourist to venture too far off the designated track, to wave them into sordid dens where smoke stains wallpaper and the pipes jostle as flushes from rooms above ring in odd time signatures, and they hear the muted voices of Johns bartering, the screeches of sickness within as their joints rattle, and tongues spew forth for another hit of a rapacious drug, and all the mottled necks of rope-burned horror that lie in wait for discovery.
What are we doing with our young? As if the amalgamates of sensory perception that lied to us far too long is the only thing that matters now. They’ve been pigeon-holed into a new arena; blood becomes nothing more than a joke, the decaying headlines that screamed once; maladies that tear apart souls become ephemeral statements to a cackle of meatheads, all becoming truly mathematic, to be taken down by marketing machines that inject resort destinations, videos of well-tanned metropolitans enjoying festivals, fake resale sneakers, new courses in schools out-of-town, the promise of new coital experiences, and even the sexy allure of elbow-patched blazers after the money’s been spent. There’s just no way we can feel this undeserving.
IF THEY WILL STAND...
Aye mate. Kickin myself a bit now wish I'd known that haha
YOU ARE NOT BROKEN
Reminder your pop boon-tunes will be forgotten in 20 years
...BESIDE THEIR HERO.
WE BOTH KNOW THEY’LL NEVER FIGHT!
One of the happiest days of my life was when I accidentally stumbled upon Protomen. And yes, Light Up The Night was my first.
I don't even like Megaman
YOU FINALLY GET IT. THERE ARE NO HEROES. MANKIND IS DOOMED.
YOU WILL NEVER HAVE ANOTHER HERO.
YOU WILL NEVER HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE.
YOU WILL FALL.
BECAUSE YOU NEVER TRIED TO STAND FOR YOURSELVES.

>This one song could have basically redeemed the entire movie
How many lads have seen Streets of Fire? It's a fucking wild movie where they completely abandoned characters and plot to focus entirely on action.
The Protomen were inspired by the cover for this album
Jeff Waynes Musical Version of the War of the Worlds has yet to be topped imo
I forgot the title, but Ayreon have this incredible album about a dude in a coma. The album starts off about his situation, then it delves into his history with love, his parental bonds etc and eventually you learn why he's in a coma.
It's all a conversation with his subconscious, sung of course.
It's very good
I don't think that's an issue, they only really use Megaman as an easy backdrop for a robots vs humans theme
The Human Equation.
Excellent album.
What the fuck, why is so good?
The crowd had gathered there to watch him fall, to watch their hopes destroyed
They watched them beat they watched them break him, they watched his last defense deployed
There was not a man among them who would let himself be heard
From the crowd, from their collective fear arose these broken words

It could have been worse, though.
This has no right to be so good. Damn,
Quadrophenia by The Who and Scenes From a Memory by Dream Theater
holy fuck i love this do you have anything else like it?
The Black Parade
Danger Days is the better choice
Maybe it's just nostalgia from my emo 14 year old days but looking back the album has some nice highlights.
My Chemical Romance was never a bad band, they’re perfectly acceptable listening. They had a level of self-awareness and level of talent that shitter emo bands of the time like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan completely lacked.
why did you have to remind me that the lorax movie could have been good?
>Emo
>Good Charlotte
>Simple Plan
What's the deal with this movie? I didn't see it, but I heard it was about environmentalism or something. What was the issue?
They were legit good, Gerard Way was always a masterful storyteller.
Fuck, how could I forget
Operation Mindcrime - Queensrÿche
youtube.com
Operation Mindcrime is so fucking good
youtube.com
youtube.com
youtube.com
The movie was way too safe trying to appeal to everyone rather than trying to tell the message
Dr. Seuss wanted to tell, that we need to think more about how we treat the environment. oh and there was a lorax approved car, you can't make this shit up.
Check out the 1972 video on youtube. It's quite good.
Original story is a poignant tale of how greed can lead to environmental destruction. The Illumination movie tries to pretend like it gives a shit about that message but it's too retarded for that, with terrible jokes, terrible songs, terrible. The cherry on the shit is that after the movie they turned Lorax, what's meant to be the character that can talk to the trees, into a literal sponsor mascot.
>They were legit good
You dumb zoomers need to go get your own thread, they were always dogshit and will always be dogshit. Man, if you're gonna listen to emo garbage at least listen to the stuff that bothers to have interesting music behind the whining instead of the most generic shite for teen girls. I can recall some popular funeral for a friend song from back in high school that was still better than anything mcr ever shat out
>You dumb zoomers
I'm 30.
So what emo bands are good?
It is, it manages to be a really good balance of telling the story and being really fucking good music.
I had a name, my father called me Blues
>So what emo bands are good?
None of them, the point I was making is at least some of them have some nice guitar lines or some shit now and then behind their trash, mcr never did.
Then you're almost my age, which means you either have very bad taste or are somehow a teenage girl lad, that's not good for you.
Watch Streets of Fire and Bubblegum Crisis
>MCR
>Emo
>No emo bands were good
Oh you're a fucking idiot, you should've said that from the start and saved us all some time
>Then you're almost my age, which means you either have very bad taste or are somehow a teenage girl lad, that's not good for you.
They made good music user, you just still see it as young people music from when you were growing up. Teenagers don't listen to MCR or any music from a decade ago, dummy

Baader–Meinhof effect, also known as frequency illusion.
Protomen is pretty popular on Yea Forums. I see it all the time in recommendations in /fit/, Yea Forums and Yea Forums
>Phantom Racer

I mean Yea Forums thinks fucking DMC 3 is a masterpiece so take their recs with some salt
Recommend any band. If you don't like the music, it's overrated trash to you. That's how it works, ya dummy!
If you did it once, you can do it again. Don't let circumstance stop you from creating.
Did you listen to "Light up the night"? That's the good one.
>a few albums
I wish they had that many
2 is a few
Three is a few.
Two is a couple.
Thanks for the motivation but this has been a bane on my shoulder that I haven't been able to shake off since. After that disaster, I just had to focus on my career for the sake of actually paying rent and not starving myself to death, and that's still the case. Plus knowing that all your work can amount to nothing due to some random bullshit coupled with the constant self-doubt that the creation is actually shit doesn't help.
To be fair, I haven't seen them talked about often in the past few years, but recently I've seen a small uptick. I think they put out a new song recently didn't they?
>There are people who like Protomen, but have never watched Streets of Fire, or Megaman.

Streets of Fire is an absolute ride
what the fuck where the Boombers planing anyway? make Ellen sing for them? rape her?
IIRC there's a scene where Raven has tied Ellen to a bed and is pretty clearly about to rape her
Few just means not many but more than one. It could technically refer to two. Several has to be at least three.

Post your favorite bands, I'm sure they're objectively great.
That's a common misconception, the power rankings for Act II go like this:
Keep Quiet > Light Up The Night = The Hounds > The Good Doctor > How The World Fell Under Darkness > Father of Death > Breaking Out
I think they put out a Light Up The Night music video
Change the first spot with the last spot and you're correct.
> Sharing my excellent taste in music with Yea Forums

After School Special

Yeah, it's probably due to TWRP often coming with NSP on their tours so they know Egoraptor through Danny Sexbang.
>Phantom Racer
great fucking taste
>>The entire """"plan"""" to rescue Ellen is to load up on guns and murder everything
C'mon, it was better than that: Cody created a distraction on the outside, blowing up everyone's bike (and at the same time preventing getting chased) while McCoy infiltrated and rescued Ellen
pretty solid all around
>Warp Riders - The Sword
I swear that song with the same name is about 40k
IF YOU THINK THAT YOU CAN RUN
IF YOU THINK THAT YOU CAN STAND
WELL YOU FORGET WHO TURNED THIS CITY ON
YOU FORGET WHO PLUGGED THIS CITY IN
THEY'LL NOT SWITCH IT OFF AGAIN!
ONE BY ONE THEY'RE TUNING IN!
There's something about the power in Keep Quiet, the endless heartbeat drums under the whole song, the last 3+ minutes are fucking relentless, Joe screaming and the choir echoing his sentiment and then into the sniper bot spitting his own lines back at him like a challenge or an agreement.
>Secrets of the blackest void, Known only to the ancients, Freedom from the planetoids, And the gravity that chains us
>And the first album is horrible.
C'mon. Unrest in the House of Light is great.
>A hive of everyday villains, those fiends whose cowardice is called out over multiple albums, like the albums that insult them
WHAT KIND OF MAN BUILDS A MACHINE TO KILL A GIRL
Know one of the guitarists in the band, he's a super cool dude. He'll go off and tour Europe with Scott Kelly and go play sold out shows and then come back and run his record shop like nothing. He's a super kind, humble person.
it's one of the songs they've released online from act 3, youtube it and you'll get it
What are his politics like?
No, he did not use his hands
Like a smart man, he used a tool
BUT JUST THE SAME!!!
What are his Act III like
Not sure, I've not talked to him about that. He's all about music and he's had the band I'm in play at his store so we know each other mostly through that
ask him what happened with the second less fat chick vocalist leaving. i always thought she was better than the one that stayed overall even though she was relegated to backup singing
What was her name?
Doesn't matter
BUT THE GOOD DOCTOR IS TO BLAME
What was her name?
DOESN’T MATTER
As cool as Will of One is, Megaman and Protoman debating each other in the apocalypse is the best part of Act I
YOU ARE OUR HEROOOOOOOOO
>And you are the dead
I think Unrest in the House of Light is the best. Dr. Light desperately telling his son a story about the death of his brother not realizing that it's inspiring him instead of dissuading.
state vs thomas light consistently makes me tear up, dunno why people don't rate the entire album as great besides maybe give us the rope
Wow, this is the most correct rating I've ever seen. Keep Quiet is fucking great
How do I get into this? I'm terrible at understanding what people are saying in music which is why musicals fuck with me so bad.
genius.com
genius even includes the story parts in between the lyrics, there's probably a few fan sites that do too
That's just a reason to run backups, not completely give up on everything.
Yeah, man the three of those songs depend on each other.
>The best thread on Yea Forums is once again not even a videogame thread.
I suppose its time to just accept and try and enjoy it.
Yea Forums usually has better music discussions than Yea Forums
Threads like this are rare but they're great for actual discussion, even if it's not vidya. Just the rock opera suggestions make this thread worth it.
The best threads on Yea Forums are never vidya threads.
t. Regular in Yea Forums's occasional Sailor Moon threads.
Do you mean you don't understand what they're actually saying or the meaning behind what they're saying?
THOUGH YOU RIDE ON THE WHEELS OF TOMORROW

That's crazy. He should do some actual singing parts, he seems like he can hit his notes well.
FLIP A SWITCH, TURN IT OFF YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO BREATHE.
SO EITHER WAY YOU'RE A CAAAASUALLLTY.
>Yea Forums has better (thing) discussion than (thing's board)
is not true and never has been
oh, easy enough.
usually the former
What it means is the thread gets to be free of the entrenched bullshit garbage that comes with any board.
Eh, even in his collab band with NSP, Starbomb, he doesn't do too much singing.
Fucking this
Something like the mid point between an opera and a rave
>2009+10
>Still no Act III
Keep Quiet is objectively a better track than Light Up the Night, faggot
THEY DON'T WANT A HERO
THEY JUST WANT A MARTYR
A STATUE TO RAISE
I'VE GIVEN EVERYTHING I CAN
THERE ARE NO HEROES LEFT IN MAN
Never ever
So how do we feel about The Megas
Their first couple albums are super choppy and honestly don't hold up imo, but History Repeating Blue is good and Red is actually pretty great. The fade in from The Red Song to I'm Not the Breakman is GOAT.
Hoping they eventually get around to the MMX album at some point. Been five years since they dropped Red.
Metal Dance was cool
I WILL NOT BE TOLD WHERE TO STAND
I WILL NOT BE TOLD WHAT TO SAY
NOT BY MAN OR MACHINE
NOT BY YOU
NOT BY ANYONE TONIGHT
HR:R > Act II > Act I > HR:B
Nightfall in Middle Earth by Blind Guardian, it covers parts of the Silmarillion, the Bible behind Lord of the Rings.
I don't think A-1 qualifies as Rock, so After School Special is more of a Concept Album, but it's still fucking great.
Are you deaf? Everything starting from Breaking Out til the end of the album is some of the best rock opera schlock ever recorded
Joe's Garage by Frank Zappa.
this is it lads, we did it.
we found the shittiest opinion ever typed on Yea Forums

well done user
I dont know if it counts but zen arcade by husker du is a great fucking punk rock opera
I liked some of the songs, but there's a lot of filler
Hated them at first, then slowly fell in love with them over time, just ordered their casette with skull mans songs and some of their belmonts music too, good shit
not a lot, I think 3 or 4 songs are a bit of filler
that's fair
lol
I'm still lusting after that breakdown lever action he gets before they raid the gang's compound.
bump
You're forgetting A Night of Queen, but he probably didn't listen to that.
It's almost perfect, but they need someone else to play Bowie's part in Under Pressure.
I wish we had a George Strait and Cody Jinks thread, but Protomen is pretty decent.
Kill 'em all
Mankind's reluctance to take action really irks me.
Better to go out in a blaze than to live in shackles.
I still like the first album but the two History Repeating albums are a big improvement and legit super good, their EPs since then have all been pretty solid too so I'm just waiting for whatever they decide to do as their next full album. Also the EP they did with Megatainment is super good, the Wily song on that is one of my favorites.
youtube.com
Queen is rock opera. There you hate queen. Therefore you are an absolute faggot.
>no mentions of duke
Act II is the better album overall but the last couple tracks on Act I are unbeatable for me, what a way to fucking end an album.
>Carl Anderson's voice is amazing
He's got the best song in the whole thing too

I saw them live last month and Kilroy hugged me after the show, was really good.
Judas' Death is also fantastic. He really pulls that despair in his voice.
Also I wonder the shitstorm that would happen if this was done nowadays, with the black guy being the bad guy.
>black guy being the bad guy
Judas wasn't a bad guy.

>But bear in mind that time was the height of Black Panther.
