Let's look at the facts in these two particular cases, as is most often stated by people who believe the title topic:

Yumi does get a bit more attention than most other Senrans, but that's what japanese fans want and they're who the games are tailored more towards. Otherwise, she's mostly a glorified dlc model, used to sell extra content and keep the series financially above water. Absolutely not true in Marie Rose's case. She won one (1) poll that gave her covergirl status for DOAX3, and was added as one of the regular girls that KT regularly allows to be used in crossovers, along with Ayane and Honoka. Otherwise, Kasumi remains the 'face' of the series. >The stories revolve around these new, barely established characters They do push it a bit with Yumi, but it's pretty clear that Asuka remains the central character for SK. All the games revolve around her, with Yumi acting as a Mary Sue at times (similar to Ada Wong in RE) to allow the devs a lazy way to get themselves out of corners they don't have the talent to write themselves out of. Not true in Marie Rose's case. Yes, she had a bit more involvement in DOA6, largely because it was the first game where she wasn't considered dlc, but the game focused mainly on Honoka, and even Helena, moreso than Marie Rose.
>Both series died because these characters brought in piles of new fans who didn't really care about the games, they just wanted fap/waifu material. Both undoubtedly brought in new fans, but ultimately both series' troubles are the result of poor gameplay and design choices on the part of the devs that didn't keep the games appealing to the core audience. SK allowed Snoy to sink their censorious claws into it, and the games post the first couple are largely derided as poor quality, shallow dlc grinders. The switching from genre to genre (beat-em-up, to musou, to rhythm, to tps) while perhaps an interesting idea, can also turn off certain fans who might not be fans of any of those particular genres. DOA's reputation, never stellar among hardcore fgc types to begin with, only got worse when KT added more than $1200 of largely cosmetic dlc to DOA5, along with 3 completely different, incompatible versions of the same game, and has shown themselves to be unwilling or unable to make anything more than cosmetic changes rather than working on the fundamentals to make the game more appealing to a broader audience. They repeatedly try to slip in the back door to mainstream acceptance through lwo-effort pandering, largely to people who have a vendetta against the series based on what they think it represents (objectification of women). They promise revolutionary new games, but churn out the same product only with much of the charm that established it as a solid niche fighter removed to make it less 'offensive'.

Zero in the MMX games, post-resurrection. He went from the "you've become strong" doomed mentor to co-protagonist, catalyst of all the conflict, and protagonist of his own subseries which eventually leads to another subseries where he completely supercedes X's personality when they combine. It's almost impossible to imagine where the series would've gone if they hadn't revived him so early.

Marie Rose is hardly a Marie Sue. She's low tier mechanically, and she's manhandled by pretty much everyone she encounters in the DOA story mode. If DOA6 had a superlightweight category like DOA5 did, she'd get tossed around and juggled even more.
Both DOA and SK have been mediocre fapbait games since their inception. The thought of another fapbait character somehow 'killing' them is simply ridiculous. Fans of these series need to gain some self-awareness.
This universe is fucking insane. Garbage like Marie Rose gets paraded around like purest gold while actual perfection like Mila goes completely unnoticed.

People were fine with jerking it to canonical minors, with nipple bumps and camel toe in DOAX2, just because of what they looked like (She didn't look 16, yer Honor!)
