You're some guy and you go around killing dudes. There's a variety of weapons, armor, and magic to acquire. Along the way you will encounter bosses, some of which have swords, some of which have some kind of puzzle gimmick. There's a swamp level. You can rest at checkpoint markers which also allow you to warp. You have a healing item that replenishes at every checkpoint. You have a universal currency that can be used to purchase items or level up. If you die you drop your currency and you have to get back to your corpse to regain it. It's very melancholic. There's a lot of deep lore, I don't understand most of it but VaatiVidya will tell me about it later. You have some kind of parry move, and a dodge/dash move. The world is interconnected. At the end you make a choice that totally alters the fate of the world and probably kills or transforms the protagonist, but it won't matter in the sequel.

I always solo all bosses before I try co-op. I also refuse to use anything that seems to make the game too easy. Not out of some "gotta be hardcore" mindset, not because I want to show everyone else how good I am. I do it because these games are pretty quickly over if you don't let them challenge you.

I think this one is gonna have a lot more npcs and if the elden ring itself is well known it might be hard to obscure the lore
Maybe all lore known by characters will be made clear but some stuff will be lost to history in universe.

When Demon's Souls came out I made the mistake of looking up stuff online and holy shit do I regret it. I basically made the game at least 50% less fun that way, maybe even more. my first souls game was dark souls and i went almost completely blind, i didn't even know you can enkindle bonfire for 10 estus flask and beat almost whole game with 5 (excluding bonfires already enkindled by keepers).
And that was the best thing i could do, DS is now my favorite game of all time
