Is this game really as good as everyone is saying it is?
once the contrarian e-celebs trash the game, Yea Forums will start hating it and pretend they never liked it.
its p good
Its one of the good platinum games
Nothing less nothing more
I think its the best Platinum game yet. Its combat isn't as deep as DMC5, but it doesn't need to be. Its the complete package. Its not just an action game, its got all these minigames and sidequests, puzzles and platforming that supplement it. Hell, the puzzles and platforming alone is superb. Combat is a good mix of Bayo and W101 and ends up being more fun than both. Its great. If DMC5 is a perfection of the old Stylish Action genre, Astral Chain is an evolution of it.
It's not as good as everyone says, but it's still alright.
fpbp
there are clear small flaws, but they're really easy to ignore and enjoy the good gameplay.
no, nintendo exclusives are shamelessly advertised on here to keep their console afloat
Games this good aren't really made anymore, the whole chain system and how it's merged into so many facets of the games gameplay, hardly ever do we have games that have an interesting gimmick like that, and have that gimmick capitalized on so well. Easily one of the best games of this gen, easily this years best game, but don't expect this game to recieve any recognition for any of this.
Well said
Games today specially western games are just boxes with elements in them interacting in very shallow ways with each other
There is no passion to make something great and complex gameplay wise because thats actually hard to do its way easier to put all your budget in cinematics and press A to hammer down the fence like in RDR2 god I hate that game
It's not as good as Bayo 1 but it's still a solid game.
>Games this good aren't really made anymore,
Games like this are made all the time. DMC5 and RE2 came out this year, Monster Hunter World last year. Breath of the Wild and NieR: Automata is only 2 years old. I think if you've been sucking Western dev cock non-stop then Astral Chain gift from god but Japan has been pumping out quality titles nonstop for the past couple years.
I still think DMC is the best game this year but the amount breadth and fullness of Astral Chain is really something. I think its more like we rarely get action games anymore that are good beyond just the action. Its like a Yakuza game if the combat was actually good. The mix of all the different elements and attention to detail is Astral Chain's greatest strength and its nice to just have a game that tries so much and doesn't fall flat on its face. Even if individually each element isn't as deep as games that focus on them, the fact that you have them all in one game is what makes it good.
You really think that Doom Eternal looks bad? That's a western game and I'd be very surprised if it doesn't end up being my favorite game of this year.
It's hard to get with the controls but once you practice enough and get good it's shit tons of fun. It's not meant to be complex or uber technical but it does take some skill and is meant to be a mess of fun.
You found the one exception
But I still prefer OG doom with actual levels and mazes and no arena room after arena room
None of those games had an interesting feature that was layered into every facet of the game, even though all of those games, except for Nier pretty good, only Breath of the Wild featured at least some kind of stand out feature, DMC5 is more of the same but polished and a great return to form. RE2 misses the point, Breath of the Wild is the standout open world game that finally pushed for an open world where exploration is the gameplay instead of an area where players move from point to point for snippets of gameplay.
Its a switch exclusive so yes, its BETTER than everyone is saying it is. Truely a masterpiece without any flaws. Well worth the $60.
>You really think that Doom Eternal looks bad?
As bad as the last Doom, Nudoom is just a cheap adaptation of Doom, as if it went nowhere in 20 years, it's nowhere near the step up that Quake was from Dooms gameplay, and it doesn't even follow where Quake was going, the button awesome shit can fuck off, players should be doing that stuff themselves naturally through the gameplay, but the developers have just no idea what they are doing other than making a game that's readily marketable.
>I just can't enjoy good games. I'd rather obsessively nitpick the game to find flaws so I can convince myself the game is bad and everyone made a mistake!
>NieR: Automata
lmao
Why'd you quote me? I thought 2016 Doom was great. Better than Doom 2, worse than Doom.
>None of those games had an interesting feature that was layered into every facet of the game
Does that make them lesser games? I'm saying that the overall quality of game is still pretty high and that Astral Chain isn't an outlier, its actually par for the course these days. The fact that Legions are so well thought out and integrated throughout the game is its strength, but that strength is not inherently greater than the strengths of those other games. Maybe it means more to you, but I'm just saying that games in general are not in the shitter like youtube personalities like Yongyea are trying to convince people. The games industry is flourishing right now.
Automata is a great game.
You could probably argue that it does make them lesser games, a game like Thief that is lower in quality in many aspects compared to DMC5 is easily the superior game because it's gameplay elements were unique and really pushed the envelope. the features in Astral Chain are a rarity, it absolutely is an outlier. Polish is never the thing that makes games truly great, it's just a way to improve a truly great game. Between DMC5 and Astral Chain, only Astral Chain is the truly great game, because it dares to be original.
>that games in general are not in the shitter
For the most part they are, not all of it is, but as far as mainstream gaming goes, absolute certainty.
>The games industry is flourishing right now.
You mean profits wise right? Neither Astral Chain, DMC5 or Nier Automata are better than The Wonderful 101, so where's the flourishing, a few good standout titles meaning anything? Last years Game of the Year was a hollow action game that was all action but is nowhere near as deep as even Astral Chain which isn't all action, it's an adventure game.
>w101 cucks
like the autistic kid in the back of the room
>ice cream fetch quest
>lose all the scoops
fucking plat
It's hard but fun. Also, Alicia's strong, tree trunk-like thighs.
I'll give you BotW. The other games you listed are either garbage or reheated mediocrity.
My only wish is we got regular jumps. Chain jumping is too finicky for me
>Last years Game of the Year was a hollow action game that was all action but is nowhere near as deep as even Astral Chain which isn't all action, it's an adventure game.
This. 2018 should have been between Celeste, RDR2 and Return of the Obra Dinn. I liked GoW but the interactivity in that game was everything we've seen before and not even that good.
>game only has 1 attack button
>no control over camera when controlling stand making depth of field somewhat poor and confusing
>stand basically plays itself when not in special mode
>Plot is very predictable and boring, but that's sort of a PG thing but the setting is really cool
>first 2 missions have different combos and dodge that make the game feel atrocious, I could imagine people giving up on the game if they don't push through
>blade mode is mirrored controls (to MGR) and cannot have the gyro controls turned off
Those are the main complaints I have so far, though take it with a bit of salt I am only up to mission 5
beginning of the game i thought 'oh, this isn't as fun as i thought it'd be' when playing on the normal difficulty
but when you unlock chainpull and sync attacks the game really opens up
It disappointed my expectations as a Platinum Action game, but after coping with the fact that it's not Bayonetta 2.5 it grew on me, and now I really like it because of how unique of a game it is.
>Is this game really as good as everyone is saying it is
Looks amazing.
Plays amazing.
And has plenty of ass if you pick the girl.
>celeste
>People were saying the game is easy
>Just beat file 2 and was getting pummelled into mush by just about everything in it
>Just beat file 2 and was getting pummelled into mush by just about everything in it
Kek maybe I'm shit at games but I got my ass handes to me too. I hadn't quite figured out the combat mechanics until after the boss battle.
I would like it more if it wasn't so janky. Chain Pull just throws you off platformers or makes you barely not make it way to much
Also the hitboxes are really stupid sometimes. I'm enjoying it but I still like vanquish and MGR better
god dammit I meant platforms
Is it just mr or is the dodge pretty weird as far as timing goes?
Glad I'm not alone, its easily the hardest Platinum game to adjust to, did all of the journos play at casual mode or something? Was wondering since they said the game was very easy, but on PT standard it can get challenging.
>try to line up a shot
>brother keeps knocking it away
>kids keep sliding me away
Fuck you too
>but on PT standard it can get challenging.
You're joking, right? I'm dogshit at action games, and it was a complete cakewalk.
journos probably played on autocombat mode
PT extreme is a bit more of a challenge
As someone who cleared DMC V without dying once, AC gets some difficulty spikes at the latter half.
When? I died twice over the whole game, and I'm trash at these games. The final boss might be a bit tough if you don't have any healing, that's about it.
So this game is basically a disappointment if you wanted more classic Platinum like Bayo and W101?
Disappointing but not surprising after Automatas huge success.
no
hey in file 8 where you get the sidequest with the left, left, straight, left, right, left directions where the shit are you supposed to start? I thought the light in the labyrinth clue might mean the spot with the open roof but that doesn't seem to work.
A lot of journos said the game doesn't have a ranking system, which is only true if you stay on easy mode after the first mission.
i found the game to be the right difficulty but i'm playing on casual
Not really, there's a mountain of nuance there, but the nuance from the scoring system is gone, and the difficulty isn't up to the standards of other games. It's basically what Nier Automata wishes it was, a good combination of adventure as well as action. Although it could probably turn adventure up a few notches.
Yeah, Celeste.
Same experience here. Same spot even.
So I don't know anything about this game. How many different Legions are there? Can you customize them? Do you get weapons other than the baton?
5
Yes, you upgrade them with new actions, equip passives that also can give new actions, and can edit their coloring.
Yes. The gun, and the Sword. Only those 3 though, but their move sets can be expanded on.
That doesn't sound like a whole lot desu.
>Play as girl
>Change her outfit to only shirt, tie and thighs
>Can't play due to erection
T-this game is r-really hard.
