What do you mean by this?
She has a tendency to give up halfway and is defeatist, and is sick of it. So she decided to climb a big-ass magic mountain to prove to herself she can finish shit she starts. The mountain projected her shadow out to harass her, and she was only able to climb it fully by accepting her shadow.
I finally played this recently and it wasn't nearly as bad as Yea Forums made me think it was. Very competently made. Theo was a huge fag though.

This game literally lives in Yea Forums's head rent free kek.
>as if Yea Forums was that important
If anything it's about twitter and reddit.
Well yeah it's a challenging platform game with a lot of creative mechanics so lots of people play it, but is also indie pixelshit in the crowded precision platform genre, with ugly artwork and pretentious themes. Why wouldn't Yea Forums obsess about it?
She's in a precision platformer.

So if her shadow represents her defeatist, half baked ways and she accepts that... I don’t get how that’s necessarily a good message.
It doesn't just represent her defeatist attitude, her shadow "Badeline" also represents her pragmatic, logical side. Badeline is all of the negative aspects of Madeline that she doesn't want to face, the shit she gets mad at herself for. When she fights against Badeline, she fights against her own self, and so loses progress on the mountain.
When she accepts her shadow, accepts her faults instead of fighting against them, she gains the ability to scale the mountain much faster than when she first tried, and can move on to improving herself. Come the first epilogue, it becomes extremely difficult for the mountain to separate Madeline's shadow from her again, as the two have grown in the year apart and are less distinct "sides" of Madeline.
