Make one of the best, most complex, and difficult twin stick shooters in existence

>make one of the best, most complex, and difficult twin stick shooters in existence
>it sells so poorly that the devs literally stop making arcadey games
What the fuck went wrong and why haven't you bought their game?

the game is good and it's disappointing that it didn't sell better

This game's aesthetic is terrible with the clusterfuck of voxel density spread across the screen.

Maybe they should have picked a less generic and forgettable name for their game

I think the price drove people away. $20 is pretty pricey for a short arcade style game, regardless of the quality.

>stop making arcadey games
lmao as if that's the worst of it, their next game is a
B A T T LE R O Y A L E

I think the cover art is a bit generic, but the style is similar to Resogun, it is a bit bombastic and flashy but you quickly get used to it and it's very functional. Everything in the game conveys information whether it's a weapon pickup, a powerup, a beam that is dashable or not, a human, an attack, an enemy that is dead, an enemy that is taking damage, etc. they all have different indicators and are color coded.

>Studio renowned for PS exclusive indies.
>They must hate PC & money.
>Makes new game -objectively their best- for PC.
>Game tanks because it's pirated to hell.
>Is forced to sell their soul and make a battle royal

i mean who knows, maybe they'll find a way to do that genre well.

>$20 is pretty pricey for a short arcade style game, regardless of the quality.
Yeah so shit like this is partly why the industry is all sorts of fucked. People don't appreciate design in games.

Waiting for a sale.

they should've included a demo of the 1st level. it's a game you don't realize how good it really is until you play it.

>Game tanks because it's pirated to hell.
Where's the proof of this? Housemarque put a post on their site going over why they had to move away from arcade style games. NONE of their games sold enough. Good job being a massive retard though, if only they could siphon off some of your stupidity and convert it to cash they could still be making arcade games.

>housemarque.com/news/arcade-is-dead
>However despite critical success and numerous awards, our games just haven’t sold in significant numbers. While some of them have reached a massive audience due to free game offerings across various digital sales channels, this unfortunately doesn’t help pay for development, which gets costly for high production quality.

so NM was more just the straw the broke the camel's back

>NONE of their games sold enough.
lol. all of their games were small tier nostalgia based productions with little replay value.
RESOGUN WAS LITERALLY THEIR FIRST BIG HIT.
it got a massive shoutout from every PS4 gamer.
what was their next step ? how did their repay that publicity ? have the spiritual sequel of resogun, that's by far their most complete game... ported to PC. don't tell me that the massive publicity don't pay the bills when their fucked their audience and tried to CASH OUT with the first opportunity. games like dead cells make money.

What was their final PS4 exclusive offering released alongside NM ? Matterfal, massively mediocre sidescrolling shooter.

I can vouch for this. I actually played it for about 5-10 hours before I really started to love it.

The issue is (and it's not exclusive to Nex Machina at all) that vast majority of people just do not play their fucking games. It's rare for it to even get played instead of just sitting in the backlog forever, and even then people will do the bare minimum, or in most cases not even beat the game at all.

It's just pathetic, check the steam stats:
Complete Arcade mode on Rookie difficulty: 12.7%
Complete Arcade mode on Experienced difficulty: 1.9%
Complete Arcade mode on Veteran difficulty: 0.5%

All of these difficulties are unlocked from the start and the game is literally only a couple hours long even if you die many times.

>twin stick shooter
Fuck off Totalbiscuit

I'm not really sure that releasing it day and date on PC and PS4 with no comparable performance or gameplay difference between them would be considered cashing out.

I like all of their games except Alienation (not a fan of looter shooters), but I haven't played Matterfall (since I heard it was middling) but I will probably try it out one of these days. I think they just got too high budget, focusing too much on complex visual effects which translate to minimal gameplay improvement but make the budget skyrocket.

>you just have to play 5-10 hours my dudes then it gets good
>hey why did no one play this?!?!

>with little replay value
The whole point of arcade style games is to constantly improve your score. Back to fortnite lilzoom.

>The whole point of arcade style games is to be a total fucking autist

>the whole point
Was it also their point to hemorrhage money? Great talk, gramps, don't you have a coffin to pick out?

>improving at things is autistic
nice

Explain how playing the same game over and over again for marginal gains is any different from speedrunning.

because nobody gives a shit about twinstick shooters

>them would be considered cashing out.
i felt like that at the time. NM was by far their most complete offering. And it was on PC.
It was obvious they had another game in their contract with sony and they decided that would be some b-team mediocrity while their A game would be on PC as well.

it was like "now on PC from the acclaimed developers of Resogun, our first actually big game"
that's cashing out on the PS4 publicity.

I did like, last year. I just haven't played it yet.

Have you even fucking played Nex Machina? You have to completely change up how you approach each section of each stage to improve your score. How you play the game the first time doesn't look remotely anything like how a player high up the leaderboard plays.

>DMC and Godhand are bad games

It was decently fun, but even for the $8 or $9 I spent on it in a sale, I felt ripped off. It took 2 hours to beat and then I felt no inclination to ever play it again.

I think you misunderstood, but judging by your reaction image, you are probably some underaged memespouting idiot so I doubt it will get through to you. I enjoyed the game quite a bit, but I think it really opens up and you realize just how great it is as you start to improve and play harder difficulties. Generally, a lot of arcadey type games are like this; I don't mean that it was particularly bad and then it finally got good, I mean it was good and then it got particularly great. The fun is not in learning the ropes and mechanics, but in implementing them once you have learned them.

>How you play the game the first time doesn't look remotely anything like how a player high up the leaderboard plays
So it's exactly like speedrunning then.

hell yeah, true that, I had to get right back to Fortnite! The game was wack as fuck yo!

I would like to see a Diablo like twin stick ARPG

The game is bad and you should feel bad

Was waiting for a sale that never came. I am a stingy jew.

Beat it on Experienced, but I'm literally not good enough to finish it the higher difficulties.
