The performance was god-awful and many animations were missing (such as doors opening), but the story and atmosphere were solid. There's not much else to say, there weren't even mechanics like combat or infection since it was a demo from the early stages of development. You just walk about the stone yard (not even the whole town) and talk to people.
And you play as Bachelor, so there were some memorable quotes.

For the marble nest re-release? End of 2019 is all they said.

The basic premise is: you're a doctor coming home to a backwater town during the outbreak of a deadly disease. You have 12 days to do whatever needs to be done in order to save the town or not.

Gameplay wise, it's a story driven survival game with lots of dialogue and ressource management. Health, hunger, thirst, exhaustion and infection are all separate stats that need to be held in check with their specific items, and you constantly need to look for people to trade items with, since the economy is unforgiving and the game doesn't wait for you.
There's also some combat, but since health and ammo are so valuable, you're better off running from every fight you can.
The gamplay isn't bad, but the game's strongest aspects are definitively the oppressive atmosphere and the characters.

Despite the 2 in the name, you don't need to play the first, this is actually a remake of the original.
Right now there's only one of the three character routes the original had, and we're all hoping the studio can survive long enough to make the other two.

Playing Pathologic HD, I hear there's some quests where it's like, hey I need 50 Alpha-tablets. Can someone list out all of those? Just by coincidence I bought basically every Alpha-tablet I could get on the first day and still only wound up with about 35, so I'd like to be able to steadily progress on any of those quests as I go through rather than having it dumped on me all of a sudden (this is now my third attempt at playing it through so I'd really like to make it all the way through at least The Bachelor this time)

I find romance to be the lowest form of fiction. Artists and writers who enjoy this genre often create the most conformist and least imaginative works. We should thrive to be better and create more ambitious fiction and art rather than personal fantasies and wish fulfillment stories. Romance/pairing fans also often devaluate notion of brotherhood/sisterhood which play an important role in the world of Pathologic.

God, what a great trailer, I can't stop rewatching it. Anyone kind of miffed that the trailers for the base game were nothing like this? The gameplay one in particular makes P2 look like some russian knockoff of shovelware survival games like we happy few.

At the Anna angel part of the story. Bachelor pretends that he needs to do a body search in order prove she isn't the shabnak. He even fools himself into thinking that he's not horny at all and is just doing his job.
Next is Lara, then Yulia (who will figure it out but also be into it because she's just as frustrated) and after Bachelor fucks up the mission because he can't find Clara, he goes back to Aspity.
Maybe I'll write a mini-sequel where he finds Clara at Eva's, but we'll see.

I'm not sure the Marble Nest is going to do much for them if they sell it, it's really more of a demo and way too short to be a product. I would kinda doubt if it's any help for free. Console ports seem like they might work but who the fuck knows.

It seems to me that most people are really not *that* far from being able to really appreciate and get a lot out of a game like Pathologic.
But right now, I feel that most people go into it (or see it from the outside) with the wrong mindset, like that one RPS review.
When I read that, it just seemed to me that the guy didn't believe that a game could use its mechanics artistically beyond very superficial ways, and that the mechanics of a game can only facilitate or "get in the way" of art.
I see a lot of people with that mindset about games, but like I said, I think they're close to being able to appreciate the kind of game design that Pathologic employs.
It just makes me wonder what else IPL could have done to nudge the player to the right mindset, in marketing or within the game itself.
There are bits of character dialog and loading screen tips that allude to the design philosophy, but for many people it seems that wasn't enough.

I mean, IPL's games aren't for everyone. But it seems like perspective and being used to certain other design principles are some of the biggest obstacles to the appreciation, and perhaps wider popularity, of IPL's games.

But that's what happens in the boardgame.

Is there really a finite amount of color in it? or is it just fluff? I've noticed that the more color I spend on the sisters the less it appears around the chambers, so I'm not sure if it's that or I'm just getting unlucky with color respawns

just my observation that one of the qualities of IPL's games is that they attempt to keep the mechanics "fuzzy", and to keep the player away from understanding the game systems in a way that would allow them to act with certainty.
so, i think it *might* be fluff, but it also may be effective at accomplishing that design goal
