What about the majority of players who do not participate in the endgame and instead just casually level multiple characters? This is the exact thought process that ruined WoW. From trying to stealth your way into enemy territory on their flying ships while surrounded by enemies twice your level everywhere to just making friends as you grind in the same area together or shooting the shit in town to that one legendary rogue orc who hides in silvermoon and stabs people who randomly pass near his lair, or how those guys baited a boss to come out into ironforge with AIDS infecting everyone. All of this is F U N. And all of this was ended by your ilk.

They made the leveling experience less tedious and more enjoyable, that's not the same thing as a worthless forgettable grind to endgame where all the content is expected to be.

Why have leveling at all? Why not just have an entire expansion content be endgame?

A games efficiency should be about a sum of fun per hour stretched over the hours you spend playing. The goal is to get the maximum amount of enjoyment and not progress.
Trying to do things as fast as possible only makes sense for content that has a really low fun/hour density. But if most things are just about grinding and aren't really fun to you, you should maybe consider not playing at all.

Current classic is nothing like it was years ago and your current personal experience in classic has nothing to do with how it was back then.
When I started playing Classic back in the day I did it with just one friend. One. Over time we met people and/or convinced other friends to play with us but it was a slow process that took time. Right now mostly everyone is playing from level one with a MASSIVE list of friends to play with. Those with people to play with are avoiding a lot of the problems that were present back in the day but that doesn't make them any less true.
Yes back then it was a huge pain in the ass to find a group of people to do stuff with so he is right while OP is wrong because unless you are an absolute retard of a social outcast that projects his antisocial skills even ingame then you won't need to bother with the lfg channel.

Everyone was going on and on about 'socializing' yet people play with other people that they already know anyways the vast majority of times so the socializing part is already there. And when you do have to look for some outside guy he won't steapk much if at all and neither will you or your friends. The game is sterile as fuck compared to what it used to be.

Classic is slow paced by design it has a lot of downtime that forces you to socialize while waiting it running. The core gameplay encourages interaction. Retail is too fast paced. It's basically a single player action game at this point. Even if you wanted to socialize on retail there is literally no time cause you constantly have to spam buttons and you instantly get teleported from place to place.

I've been playing on Dalaran WoW (WotLK) which has fantastic scripting but the PvP is completely dead aside from level 79 twinking due to the owners keeping it "Blizzlike" and god do I wish there was a pre-Dragon Soul Cata server knocking about.
Having now gone back and re-experienced all of WotLK I can confirm early Cata has the most mechanically solid PvE and PvP gameplay WoW is able to offer, if you're willing to look past the shitty lore and literal world destruction aspects.
