Also the cutscenes from the PSX version without the load times.

If you decide to lash out at Malus for Crono's death you're turning away a powerful party member. Spare him and you gain an ally to help you on the perilous trip to save Crono and the mission to destroy Lavos. Killing him doesn't bring Cyrus or Crono back (he does give you a hint if you kill him but nothing else), and it doesn't get you any closer to killing Lavos. It accomplishes nothing but giving Frog closure that he can get without having to kill Magus (by speaking with Cyrus' ghost), and depriving you of a helping pair of hands when you're already a man down.

Why would one dispute the truth?

He lost his homeland and his family, lost his chance to kill Lavos, got his castle wiped off the map, got to relive the literal fall of his kingdom and see his sister disappear all over again, and got a significant portion of his power drained by Lavos. He's already been punished enough. Besides, it's not his fault he got sent to 600AD and raised by fiends. His life was ruined by Lavos, just like the Reptites, the people of Zeal, and everyone in 2300AD.
