Xenogears is my favorite game ever, but Xenosaga (all episodes) was kind of trash.... is this worth playing?

What did you like about Xenogears? What did you dislike about Xenosaga?
Personally, I think all of the Blade games are great and very worth playing, but they're fairly different than the older games.

Xenosaga III is best game in the series.

Xenogears had amazing music... Xenosaga has an amazing soundtrack, but its mostly only in cut-scenes... many areas of the game have no music at all.
Xenogears had such a huge scope and the story, while out there, made sense.
Xenosaga is much smaller in scope and often makes no sense ( youtube.com/watch?v=dx4ZrKLewYs ... Chaos is just talented at impossible magic, and nearly everyone is just like "ok, makes sense" )

Saga 2 is legit bad. Besides the cool scenes with Jr and Albedo it's not worth touching. Saga 3 has great combat.

Yes you can. Chain attacks are no longer broken and break the game but still work to dodge instant kills and land a killing blow at 10-20%. Lots of items that increase special recharge is now worthwhile instead of being worthless wrap you selll You have this feeling of progression where you are weak as shit at the beginning but gradually grow stronger. You on longer can just just apply glass cannon tactics and win at every encounter.

I was initially a little disappointed because the first minute or so of the trailer had me hoping it would be X2 (though it's way too soon for a game of that size, so that's probably a good thing), but I don't see why anyone would be pissed off about it.

Game would be less tedious if unique blades had quests to gain them instead of the gacha shit we are stuck with.
Game would also reward exploration more if they toned down the shitty field skills system.
Some of the blade quests are also tedious as fuck, looking at you Ursula and Electra.
I like the game other than that.

Why would I be? I like action games and JRPGs. It's not like XB2 was the first game to do stands, AC has a blatantly superior combat system though because that's the main focus I suppose, while in Xenoblade the world is always the main focus. AC also probably had more development resources and came from a company that's experienced with action combat. I get the sense that Takahashi and friends wanted more action-y combat in Xenoblade since it's been moving that way but don't really have the aptitude to make it happen in a satisfying way which is why we have the quasi-mmo/button challenge system.

I don't think Indol's fight against Flesh Eaters was exactly behind the scenes. It seems like propaganda they were actively pushing. I never really felt a sense that the titans were all just one big living thing you were exploring because you never really got any good vistas. Torna had a few where you could see how areas connected (ie the early bombed town is just beneath an area near the desert but inaccessible due to a staircase being destroyed) and made an immense difference to my appreciation of the setting.

There weren't really any "holy shit I wonder if I can get to that" moments. I really assumed there would be a dramatic confrontation on Gormott's head after climbing it's neck and there was never anything like that.

Yeah, and no. It's still open, but it reuses a Titan from the base game. It has a couple revamped mechanics like being able to control your Blade when traversing the world, and the campfire system, but I think that's about it. Oh yea, also the community level system, which is basically just the affinity branch thing from XC1 but a bit more simplified. You also get to explore a new Titan, Torna.

I was quite fine with how Gormott was. He's seriously pretty big already when you think about it. Uraya was also big enough, Mor Ardain could use a little bit more outside exploration. Tantal and Lefheria are the ones that should be bigger. The barren snow plain in Tantal felt lacking, and Leftheria is too much of an Eryth Sea redux with its corridors. Though considering Elpys is part of Lefhteria, it's also big in its own way. Torna was perfect.

Why are the jiggle physics so different between Blades? Mythra/Pyra and the bunny blade for example jiggle but have some noticeable weight, whereas Vale and Perun's tits are like actual jelly.

I don't even know how it would work to begin with, unless each new universe created by Klaus's contact with the Zohar is like a mirror of Alrest in terms of people living on huge structures.

This. I liked the progression of steadily getting to climb up the Bionis, and across the Mechonis. I'm sure if you slapped together every Titan in XC2 though, you'd probably get a similar experience. Shame about the Bionis Shoulder getting left out of the game, though. Hopefully in an eventual remake, that gets added.

I always found it weird how they give you direct access to Hana JD, but you can't directly use Pneuma. Hana JD is arguably more powerful than her, and you can use her full power without restrictions once you get the right build going.

Instead of a giant moving thing you're stuck on, I imagine it in space. Maybe on a giant space ship/station - One of the other beanstalks? It might have more natural places like what Elysium was supposed to be, maybe some alien fauna that latched on. Several orbiting satellite areas... It is. The only games linked are Xenoblade 1 and 2. You can play XC2 without prior knowledge to XC1, though it'll make the game more enjoyable if you played XC1. tl;dr, if you ever intended to play XC1 someday, do it first. if you don't want to or can't, XC2 is still a good starting point.

All Xenoblade games are standalone titles that can be enjoyed on their own without prior knowledge of the other games. That said, Xenoblade 2 has by far the slowest start and worst tutorials of the series, so I'd still recommend starting with Xenoblade 1, if only to learn series-wide basics like "accuracy and crit rates are improved when attacking an enemy from behind" and so on. Also emulating Xenoblade 1 to find out if the general gameplay, structure and exploration the series offer is your thing might be more sensible than spending 60 bucks only to find out it's really not your thing.

Maybe one of thse days, I've been wanting to play Xenogears for a while, I really like the mecha design for that game.

It would have been way better if Pyra transferred the rest of her core crytal to Rex, effectively making Rex the next Aegis. I assumed that would be the crux of the plot honestly. I thought Pyra/Mythra had probably inherited the crystal and became burdened with some big Aegis responsibility, and then Rex would inherit that burden.

What makes XC2's plot/[rogression so boring compared to 1's? The majority of 2 definitely felt like a massive slog, and involved a bunch of plot points hinging on nations which were really hard to care about.
1 in comparison was a journey across two very mysterious Titans, with a really alluring plot and more believable, charming characters.
The only parts of 2 that really felt interesting or exciting were moments that drip fed us info about the Aegies/world, and then towards the end with the plot twists regarding the World Tree, and other end game revelations, many of which were actually sort of underwhelming anyway

Absolutely not. It gets good like 7 chapters in. If you've played Xeno 1 or X, the whole game will likely be more enjoyable just because you'll be familiar/interested at that point anyway.

Honestly, XC2 was a lot closer to Takahashi's original vision, so it felt like there was a lot more going for the plot. XC1 at the end of the day simply felt like a revenge journey across two massive Titans, and the world was far more interconnected. It took me a little while to get used to XC2, and its cast.

No, that's really silly. Things being connected for the sake of it is really dumb and ruins the integrity of each story to be honest. XC1/2 were connected in a really sloppy way already, the worst I think being that Klaus is actually somehow in both universes and connected to himself via some asspull portal that's somehow only visible in one universe.
It also involved a lot of half assed retconning unless they go with my idea that Alvis' past vision was different due to it being an inaccurate/simplified memory, just like Pyra's 'ancient, half forgotten' memory of Elysium.

True. My issue is that the things going on in 2 aren't interesting at all. They try and big up each Titan and each political leader but... it's really fucking dull and shallow.

The only reason I cared about the different factions of people on Bionis was that the situation for, say Colony 6, was genuinely dire. and they were some of the only people that were still alive in the world. Every race/civilisation just felt inherently more interesting and central to the plot in 1. The High Entia, for example, were really knowledgeable about the Monado, the history of the world, and were condemned for not helping the Homs. They were also foreshadowed with the architecture present at Satorl Marsh. Then later, they team up with the Homs and fight in a war against the Mechon. It's like everything in 1 was essential, whereas a lot of plot threads in 2 feel really jammed in and irrelevant.

I think most people can agree that the politics in XC2 were pretty irrelevant for the most part. It's been some time since I've played through the game, but I know it boiled down to saving Alrest from destruction, which was pretty pointless since everything was solved by Rex traveling up the World Tree to meet the Architect anyway. The only parts of the game I found remotely interesting were chapters 6 ~ 10, really. That's quite late in the game, but the 2nd half was awesome.

Like you said though, I just overall liked how connected things became in the end of XC1. A lot of people seemingly have issues with the 2nd half, though because of all the twists and new plot developments.

To be honest the end portions of 1 are kind of bullshit. But the very end revelations are really shocking and cool imo.
And yeah. I really enjoyed the latter parts of 2 honestly, things became really interesting, mostly anyway. The world tree interior, theme and enemies gave me goosebumps at first. Really nice twist and the whole thing felt very grand/wtf.

Not the user your responding to but I like seeing connections between games because it makes the in-game world seem bigger and cooler, and I like thinking that while one thing is happening in one game, what could be happening in the old worlds of the other.
and I think the connection was pretty well done, an easy explanation for why the portal doesn't show up on zanza is because his body is more metaphysical and can be changed to his will, whereas klaus is kinda stuck that way. the only retcon would be the space station and the experiment, but they are zanza's memories so it could just be half forgotten / shit memory, or like you believe, just corrupted data removing details.

No, they are Alvis' memories in XC1, he's showing his memory to Shulk. Or he's literally showing exactly what happened, like a recording. But yes, it could just be half forgotten/corrupted.
I like that XC1/2 are connected, for sure. I just can't really get on board with how certain things were done. The retcon is so harsh and obvious. In XC1 it was literally just an experiment on a spacestation. XC2 changes it to take place on a space elevator, along with a Conduit, and the whole context/tone is wildly different as it involves a war with rebels.
I don't really buy the metaphysical thing. I mean yes, that does sound plausible but... it's just so obvious that that wasn't intended in 1. I honestly don't think there was a way for them to have Klaus exist in 2's universe as well as 1's and for it to be believable/well done. It just doesn't really make any internal sense and is literally just a random and pretty much inexplicable plot point (other than 'my body was somehow split in two but oh, Conduit magic means I'm alive and also my other half looks like a single whole for some reason')

I'm quite sure the place alvis shows shulk everything is still in memory space which is zanza's memories, but if not can you please source? I don't see why it's hard to believe zanza can just hide the portal, dude can dematerialze and rematerialze himself wherever, why not rebuild your body without a big ugly portal. but yeah I can see why xc2's retcons seem dumb atleast the spacestation still had the ring in so it didn't really change besides making the ring thiccer and adding an elevator. also Klaus wasn't really kept alive by conduit magic but himself living on as a god in another universe, and all the energy zanza had, klaus was getting a share of (infact maybe thats why zanza was so desperate for ether is because he was basically sharing his lifeforce with klaus.). Monolith didn't think they'd get a sequel anyways and I think they did great without retconning to much.

About the Conduit magic, I was just talking again about how his body was literally separated in two and the whole 'connected via a portal' ordeal just seems really stupid and out of nowhere. I'm sure they (or fans) can give good explanations for the whole thing. I just think it's something that will always seem a bit forced and shallow to me.

The real crime is that the tits only jiggle on a single character (that I've seen) in this game. The rest are rock solid.

Xenoblade's balancing team + random chance to get any Blade + progress-gated upgrades are a match made by Satan himself. This shit is already unbalanced before taking into account Perun is stuck at the first level of her skills chart for most of the early game due to "kind deeds" being backended, or having to do tediously long game-spanning quests to improve a Blade.

80% of the rares are rather weak. You can really feel the DLC powercreep

There's a few like Crosette and Poppibuster, which are quite good but don't get to game breaking levels.

Then there's Elma and Corvin.
They're basically "I wanna play the game in cinematic mode and not be challenged" blades.

Kos-Mos is busted to high hell too despite being available in the base game, but the difference there is that you have a something like 1/10,000 chance of pulling her.
So if you're lucky enough to pull her ass from a crystal, you've earned the right.

Pretty good. Crossette is a crazy high damage dealing biltzball with two multiple hit specials (her 2 and 3). One of her battle skills giving off a 500% addictive bonus when picking up positions and 50% bonus effects during a fusion combo.
Corvin battle skills grant him the ability to gain party meter incredibly fast without a omega drive in addition to grant art recharge on evasion, which can be very useful for lots of challenge mode missions. Also giving all drivers a smash art.
Shulk is a beast, reaching the highest auto-attack rating in the game and granting Monado Speed which gives 40% to hit rate and agility, combined with Mythra, makes you virtually touchable. Also has visions that block all instant kill moves.
Fiora is probably the best blade in the game. Giving extra crit rate to everyone and each crit she gets gives her a bonus additive damage maximizing to 250%. All her specials are multiple hits leading to ridiculous high damage numbers. Elma herself is just good but Overdrive with her really makes her OP. Reducing break resistance and toppling on even more damage you can do.
