You being a teenager.

When enemies throw hatches and stuff at you, you can shoot them out of the air.

You find the shotgun early on in the game

Doesn't play like dogshit like the first 3 games.

EVERY SINGLE SECOND OF IT

This, essentially.
Getting away from the tangled nonsense of the previous games plots and cranking up the campiness also helped significantly

Capcom?

That this game hasn't been figured out yet, it's still a mystery that hides elements.
To this date, people are arguing what the best handgun and shotgun is, people are still finding out new things you can do in this game, for example the dinging bell, to reveal the wine bottle that you have to shoot . You don't have to manually ding it, you can shoot it.

consolies

Well there's alot. Key things though would be great pacing, replayability, and gameplay

>Boring
>Shit shooting mechanics
>Hardest difficulty is the only way to play it
>Shit story
>inb4 zoomer

>Doesn't play like dogshit
lmao

It's kind of funny hearing the die hard RE fans say it is the last resident evil-esque game in the franchise. Yeah that's probably why it was so good

This and REmake are probably the two most polished games of all time. No low points, and the best at what they tried to do. Change my mind.

Attached: 1567170850750.jpg (668x924, 160K)

why cant both be masterpieces?

KBM on PC is easy mode, especially on professional.

It was fun to play.

because muh tribalism

For me, it's the John Carpenter-y schlock.

Attached: 9ea7f7e5dd952df12476fa01f1045c05a6342054.jpg (900x689, 235K)

Scenario design and gamefeel.

red9 best handgun
striker best shotgun
mystery solved

Shotgun is always the first weapon you find in RE tho (except with Jill and Claire)

weebs having no standards

Attached: re4.jpg (1200x882, 298K)

>clunky and archaic even at the time of its release
>"masterpiece"

Attached: 121229193292.jpg (2000x1470, 647K)

The pacing.

These images are so fucking autistic and always miss the point so hard.

>John Carpenter-y schlock
What the fuck are you talking about?

perfect atmosphere
pacing keeps you going to new locations and set pieces constantly
good mix of being somewhat silly while still being horrible and morbid
sound design is 11/10, all the guns and enemies and even door and footstep sounds sound exactly like they should
the music is probably the best of the series, seriously underrated soundtrack
the shooting is incredibly fun, the upgrade system for the guns is engaging

And at the time it came out it was absolutely the best looking video game to ever be on a home console.

>say it is the last resident evil-esque game in the franchise.
I don't know what kind of crack you're smoking or what fumes you're inhaling while shining your rose tinted glasses but actual fans of the old games consistently state that 4 killed the series and is a shit representation of resident evil.
Everyone agrees it's a good game
Its gets much worse after the village
It's nowhere near 10/10, more like 8
It sold like shit
5 is better throughout
Leon is a shit character
4 did more damage to the series than good.

the true answer right here. weebs will make excuses for anything that comes out of that godforsaken island. hence why they all buy the same game a dozen times (yakuza) and love shitty budget titles that have no business being successful and would be mocked if made by western devs (EDF)

Because 4 was the first to start the action route in the RE series, and we know how that went !

>sound design is 11/10, all the guns and enemies and even door and footstep sounds sound exactly like they should

>things sound like they should
>this somehow makes its sound design the BEST EVER
11/10 should be reserved for games with truly exceptional soundscapes. RE4's sound design is fine, but hardly some pinnacle. Environmental/ambient sounds in particular are very basic.

I am going to marathon the HD version for XBONE with friends. What am I in for?

Basically, I can't watch Leon talking tough to a squeaky spic midget without getting some serious Big Trouble in Little China vibes.

The developers

we got great games like 5, revelations, and 7?

nigga it is one Kurt Russell away from being called Big Trouble In Little Spain

nothing
it turned a horror game series into a 3rd person shooter

>nigga it is one Kurt Russell away from being called Big Trouble In Little Spain
Except without any of the humor, charm, personality and fun and energetic acting of Big Trouble in Little China.

So basically nothing like it at all.

Attached: 13761383012.jpg (540x540, 26K)

Those you can keep, i rather have my 1-3 !

That film is making fun of stuff like RE4, which is actually playing it straight. They are like the complete opposites of each other. Do you guys really not realize that RE4 is not meant to be cheesy, it's meant to be badass. It's like the infamous FILL YOUR DARK SOUL WITH LIGHT! scene in DMC. That wasn't meant to be funny. They were being serious. It was meant to be sad. The Japs are just that retarded.

Both of those games are great.
Stop trying to pit everything against each other and declaring one shit and the other perfect

No one disagrees? Ok we got a good thread on our hands.

Attached: 1548952634270.jpg (1058x1300, 311K)

it plays like the first 3 but in 3rd person yu dumb fuck

>no low point
The island is kinda a step down from the castle desu and it takes a good chunk before it becomes fun again.

>5 is better throughout
>Leon is a shit character
>4 did more damage to the series than good.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

>survival horror game
>with hong kong action cinema levels of manoeuvrability and a clear view of surroundings
How would that even work?

>it plays like the first three but it doesn't

>can pause game at any time to chow down on a billion healing herbs, reload weapons, etc while being compltely safe from harm

>"survival horror"

You're right, I actually just wanted to make an extreme point to spark conversation. RE4 is pretty consistent though throughout. The more actiony stuff kinda sucks. But I think the regenerators keep the horror atmosphere.

lmao of course a darkie wouldn't have the Gamecube version

Anyone who thinks Leon is equivalent to Jack Burton either hasn't seen Big Trouble in Little China or hasn't played RE4. You are comparing a movie about a man who is very far removed from being anything even close to a hero but thinks he's awesome played for laughs to a game about the most badass awesome but stoic and humble super secret agent hero in the world played dead straight.

and that's supposed to be a bad thing?

Attached: 156454_345171908883835_768966530_n.jpg (720x540, 94K)

>PS2
Nigger

>played dead straight
So your answer is no, you haven't played RE4.

yo i love this guy. i can't get enough of him

so cool

The Island was incredibly lame, but the village is probably one of the best video game locations ever.

RE0 ruined the classic, with CV being a second closest culprit
RE4 saved the franchise
RE6 killed it
Revelations dilogy vomited on its grave
RE7 is not RE
RE2make is wildly overrated mediocre generic TPS which is already forgotten by everybody seven month after its release
RE5 sold the best and you got nobody to blame but yourself

>I-its everyone elses fault, not my 10/10 masterpiece GOTYAY perfect gaimu!!!
That's why people hate RE4 fanboys

how come nobody says "Give it back Tyrone" like they used to

they moved on with their lives, and so should you

The game is like a B-movie in video-game form with crisp reward action gameplay. I've replayed it so many times. I'm looking forward to my next replay.

It was your first "Resident Evil" game.

It also has a somewhat somber and empty atmosphere, at least when you're in a save room, saving, or in the village in the first few chapters

Leon is GOD on the island until the regenerators come in

youtube.com/watch?v=kkIdLAieGDs&t=203s
Pretty short but gud analysis

nobody wants the shitty PS2 version back

Tank controls did little pleb filtering?

It's not a masterpiece due to the second-half where it feels disjointed from the first-half.

Still a great game, though.

It was scary
It had action
It had good progression
It had many little details

Because it's a one of a kind experience that has never been successfully replicated 1:1. It's why people love parasite eve as well.

Re4 has a lot of knockoffs but they always change the entire formula. They try to add full sprinting or faster general movement or allow for walking and shooting or more guns or something. For all its wannabe "spiritual successors" and knockoff inferior products, if you want to play a game like RE4 you have to play RE4.

>can't move and shoot
>worst controls in the history of video games
>people say it has great graphics when half life 2 came out a year before this shit
>the story is soooooo fucking bad it's laughable
>zombie game that's not scary
you incels are delusional, it's like you live in your own world

Combat wise, still the best Resident Evil ever to this day. Gore and weapons feels fucking amazing and RE 5 do not even coompare in nothing. Also, level desing and economic system helped a lot. Its a game with a lot of replay value, not because for archivement or secondary missions, if not, is just because is a lot of fun to play again and again.

Also SOOOME of this. Fuck limited saves.

You posted your Megaman Zero collection in other thread, didn't you?

Attached: 2113.jpg (304x250, 17K)

threw away the claustrophobic Night of the Living Dead atmosphere and brought in a casual TPS aesthetic to appeal to the masses. pic unrelated

It's basically 3 full games together in one package incredible enemy variety amazing survival horor scenes amazing guns variety for it's time no melodrama so it always move forward amazing graphics great music and sound design perfeclty balanced difficulty system and breathtaking level design etc etc

I'm still surprised there hasn't been more PE rip offs. I would buy it, I think a lot of people would. I welcome the possibility of a survival horror RPG resurgence.

The campy writing and tone really adds to the experience unlike something more serious like the Evil Within
The wacky quicktime events are also great but most people didn't like them

Because its been ported to every platform on the planet while also being an extremely casual and easy to pick up entry level meme game that doesnt offend casual or womens sensibilities. Its the fortnite or COD of third person shooters, it being popular means that it wasnt "bad" but it wasnt even close to being great. Nobody who has any experience with games beyond being some I GREW UP ON DA PEE ES TWO anime autist shitter will even claim otherwise. Anybody who thinks RE4 is a """"masterpiece""""" has never played any game thats even close to being a masterpiece, even from the same fucking genre. Go fuck yourself zoomer

NOOOOOOOOOOO WRRRRRRYyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Why do people shit on the controls so much? I played it for the first time a few weeks back and had no problem with them at all.

Attached: thinking joshua.png (229x402, 27K)

No re 2 remake dosen't have design flaws in his combat in 2019 but re 4 had problem even in 2004 with is tank control

yeah anyone who doesn't like 4's cheese is comedically lactose intolerant

It isn't. It's garbage and completely overrated, one of the easiest and most lineal games I've played. I'll never get the hype on this shit

Who hurt you, user?

and there the redditors start coming

I've played it for the first time recently, you know that lake boss, well I killed him and watched the cut-scene, and then noticed that I missed a little treasure, so I turn around, go on the boat and start trekking up the path,
And cut-scene two plays with the wolves, I fight off most of them and ran out of most of my health, turned around and noticed I missed one and died, so ya it's scary

As someone who played it a few weeks back, I can easily understand the hype.
>great pacing that constantly shakes up gameplay
>extremely satisfying gun feedback
>tons of replayability
>upgrade system is fun to mess around with
>cheesy but endearing dialogue

Imagine having one site live in your head rent-free.

>excellent revamping of game systems
>technology allows for camera over the shoulder and a more intuitive aiming system
>shooting allows for more involved action, like context-sensitive action commands to dodge(which existed in a previous form in RE3), or for Leon to perform follow up attacks like his kicks or his famous suplex
>proto-God Hand adjustable difficulty system ensuring an even balance to make things more interesting for a competent player, but also makes sure things aren't unwinnable for a less talented player, and basically making sure the player has just enough ammo if they're not being retarded
>inventory revamped to focus on long term resource management than deciding whether to bring keys or guns with you and actually makes some coherent sense rather than two door keys arbitrarily taking up as much space as a fucking shotgun
>escort mission but Ashley is extremely intuitive and unobtrusive; will park exactly where you leave, cling to Leon's back or duck during shootouts to avoid being in the way, or you can just stick her in a bin while Leon goes to kick some ass
>Leon has developed from goofy out-of-his-depth rookie cop to a pretty boy American James Bond, making wisecracks and kicking ass, and the game's presentation itself has gone from campy B-movie to a more tongue-in-cheek horror action flick
>plot itself makes a point of ditching Resident Evil's baggage, Umbrella taken out off screen by litigation and conventional powers rather than a bunch of weirdoes shooting up secret Umbrella labs, and leaves the story free to be its own interesting thing
>masterful atmosphere, going from the eerie village that makes a point of "these are not mindless zombies, they can think and use tools" to the creepy as fuck castle to the full on 80s John Carpenter-esque horror vibe of the island
>no way fag

It is one of the most tightly designed games ever made and it's a damn shame RE5 and RE6 never could live up to its standard.

Attached: Leon_9.jpg (1400x2000, 548K)

Autism.

Its not in my head, it keeps coming to threads on Yea Forums because /r/Yea Forums had epic meme images that you laughed at

redditor spotted

Whatever you say, autismo.

Punisher is much more useful in some situations.

Basically this. Game is just great.

I liked 4 more than REmake but I like 1 more than both

RE4 was one of those rare games that always felt cinematic when you were running around and murder hoboing. Every sequence felt like you were doing a cool action sequence without pandering too much to the 'look we are pretty much a movie at this point' *cough* uncharted *cough*.

So much care was put into allowing you to solve problems in different ways while allowing you to pick your favorite weapon and not be screwed. Do you want to mow down that giant with your SMG or do you want to lure it under loose boulder? Do you want to pick off enemies with a sniper rifle or run in stabbing enemies in the face then karate kicking them? No mechanic was abandoned.

They do a good job of introducing new mechanics just as soon as you get comfortable. Finally get on top of Zombies? Weird tentacle zombies. Finally comfortable with tentacle zombies? Chainsaw zombies. Chainsaw Zombies? Giant zombies. Etc.

why does the ps4 version have black borders?

>RE7 is not RE
fucking hilarious coming from an RE4 fanboy. RE7 is closer inline with the originals than fucking 4 is.

Wonderful pacing, never dull or monotonous. Great upgrade invotory system

The grand question: what's more replayable, RE4, or MGS3? RE4 is probably the first and only 5+ hour game I instantly did a NG+ on after beating without even getting off my couch since I didn't need an excuse to put some more tick marks in the stock of my Red9, but I think I've actually replayed MGS3 more in total, despite the usually longer break periods between runs. In both cases I always lie to myself I'll skip the cutscenes and never do. For fairnesses sake, this is only NG+, not the extra Ada stuff or HUNK mode.

>a billion healing herbs
Not a thing

The people calling it a masterpiece having double digit IQs.

RIP. He never did get to go to that good bar

cope harder

RE for gameplay, but MGS3 for content. M3 has stuff you can basically only get after four or five playthroughs, while RE caps out of new stuff after the second one, maybe third if you're bad at selling things.

is a good game

People only gave a shit about it because it broke the mold of RE and action gaming as a whole at the time.
Just because something was innovative for its time and influential, doesn't mean it actually stands the test of time.

Youre extremely sensitive to a game being praised. Its not normal

Have you actually played the game? Its undeniable that RE4 was meant to be cheesy.

the endless butthurt from fixed camera fags

Ballistics.

I need Ashley back in the series somehow.

She's going to be POTUS in RE8.

the pacing
the gun handling
the level design

>RE2make is wildly overrated mediocre generic TPS which is already forgotten by everybody seven month after its release
I just played through Re2make and even though it's gorgeous and filled with TECHNOLOGY it felt like a souless version of Re4, I have no desire of doing a second playthtrough.

The trouble I had with RE2make is that Scenario A & B are almost identical. Doing the same fights in the same places, same puzzles etc. It's been a long time but I'm certain the original RE2 was different.

>just enough ammo
RE4 gives you wayyyyy more ammo than you ever need. you're wrong at that point.

i love re4 but it really does get less interesting after the village

Memorable map.
i can practicly fly through the entire thing in my head nowadays.

It has the atmosphere of a really well done movie game like The Last of Us while having actual, only minority scripted gameplay, and the Japanese game attention to detail/style was there but was Americanized enough to have a broader appeal.

Play on hardcore. You should never feel as safe or in-control as you do in RE4, where you just clear areas and move on. It's more enjoyable as anxiety/horror-core

it was set in Spain

it's not, it's just the first re games most fags played here and they're blinded by nostalgia
