my thoughts exactly. Ive played plenty of other MMOs, but none of them hooked me. They were really obvious in trying to addict you too. Lootboxes, flashy shit, having to log in every day for a bonus to make it habitual, nothing worked for me. They were jamming the needle in my arm but i wasnt having it. Then there is WoW, no stupid "log in every day to get a golden penis weapon" yet i cant stop playing. WoW is a masterclass on game design and in hindsight its no wonder other MMOs died. The X factor is too elusive

I'm enjoying it, when I can actually get in to play. I have a good job and a wife now so I can't play as much as I did when I was 15. I played for 8 hours yesterday cuz it was my last day off of work. Figured I'd see if I could play for a couple hours before work, buuut nooope 8k person queue.
By the time I would've got in I would've had to turn it off and go to work (work the night shift). These queue times are fucking ridiculous. Maybe it's because it was years ago, but I don't remember the queues being this bad when the game was released. Get your fucking shit together Blizzard.

We'd been playing for 3 days straight and this isnt the first time silly shit like this has happened but we both decided to just stop playing then and there while he was running back to body. Its not cus of the rng aspects but at that point i think it just hit us both. We got our fill of our nostalrius craving especially with doing scarlet dungeons and at that point we were just doing grinding for nothing. Both of us dont want to raid at all and pvp isnt out so why bother hitting 60 now?

i talked about doing twinks just to pass the time til 2nd phase gets pushed through but i could hear in his voice he was pretty much just done playing WoW altogether.

Game was fun though, hopefully they do something new.

I use questie, it doesnt tell you where to go but it shows all the available quests+recommended level. This way you wont miss on quests (seriously ive probably missed half the quests during my first 15 levels without it) and if youre at a place that has too high levels or is dry you can just go to the world map and look where there are quests more your speed

except if you want to quest constantly without grinding you want to switch zones back and forth. For example I had quests for lvl 20 in ashenvale, then the next set was for lvl 24, so I went to redridge and wetlands for a few levels, then go back to ashenvale, then wetlands, then duskwood

I did, I cleared every quest of darkshore and ended up short in level for ashenvale. If I wouldve somehow completed every quest in ashenvale i wouldve fell short for the next zone.

yeah mindcontrol is fun. But the grind is real, so playing a class for one gimmick is rough. I like priest because of their nice leveling talents, awesome dungeon potential and shadow priest being bonkers.

Literally can't be. I played that part not too long ago and I did just fine with my druid. You had to miss some quests, there is no other way. Unless of course you did some bullshit methods to abuse bugs in those quests so they are easier. Resulting in you getting less kills on mobs you would usually get.

I was really skeptical for a while, especially dealing with the shitty zone that is Barrens (call it comfy if you want, I've probably spent a good 2-3 hours there just walking places by now) and being pranked a few times by mobs spawning on top of me or having my shit ninja'd. Plus I can't find enough fucking herbs there.
Then I took a bit of a break from just questing after I went to Thunder Bluff following some quest chain about the Wailing Caverns. Ended up walking around the whole zone despite being level 18 and easily beating up anything there, gorging myself on herbs and actually wanting to explore all the locations, like that Venture Co. mine.
Took the Zepplin to Undercity after that to go deliver some chick's pendant and gorged myself on herbs again in Silverpine, did a quest for a better wand.

The whole time I was doing this shit that should have honestly been boring busy work, I could really feel the "soul" in the game, if you forgive the vague buzzword. It feels like a real place that real people are inhabiting. I got actually anxious the first time I saw Alliance NPCs in the south of Silverpine because I know I could easily be in danger there now compared to the relative safety of the barrens.
The other MMO's I've played (TERA, Guild Wars 2 and a free trial of post-cata WoW) felt like their worlds were really static and kind of dead. Maybe it's just because I'm playing along with other people that are leveling, or are new. I've always thought MMOs are kinda shit if you're going through the content way after it's come out since there's no sense of discovery to share with others. But I really can't think of a single time in GW2 or Tera that it felt like I was in a world where events were going on regardless of if I was there or not. GW2 was probably because they want you to do literally everything though as a checklist and TERA well, I never hit level cap from boredom.

tl;dr Yeah guess it's pretty solid, hope they do Classic+ like OSRS did.

I'm glad other people seem to be enjoying it a lot. I knew I'd enjoy it from my time on private servers, and all the little things that bothered me there have been fixed in classic. There was a certain change consistency on private servers. For example spawns were rigidly set. A mob of the same type would spawn in the same spot after the same amount of time (barring dynamic spawns), while in classic there are a lot more random factors involved. Instances don't have identical packs but rather the mob types vary from run to run, there are a lot more patrols around, mobs sometimes spawn at weird frequencies. There's a sense of chaos and unpredictability in the game that I missed a lot.

Am 45 now, didn't actually plan on leveling that fast but it ended up that way. Still taking the time to sleep properly and have long breaks.

Not as much as I had hoped. I know its not a race or rush to get to max level, but the leveling process itself isn't fun and its a slog on most classes that have downtime. Most vanilla quests and just bland kill and collect quests with abysmal drop rates, tightly packed mobs in a game where 2-3 can kill you unless you're a mage, and compounded with tons of competition right now. The only fun times I have are grouping with others for bosses/elites, but thats inefficient for drop quests. Its way more of a slog than I remembered compared to TBC/Wrath.

I don't like retail. I like TBC and Wrath. Though I'd prefer Wrath without LFG. Both had way better content and class balance than Vanilla but were not too homogenized or detached like expansions after it.

To keep it short, the expansions and all the changes over the decade ruined the game. Retail wow is a completely different game than vanilla wow, hence why many people are excited to play the real game again.

I rolled on Benediction 10 minutes after it came out. Never had to wait in a queue and never felt alone, but in the early morning/late night it's still possible to finish crowded quests

What the fuck?

Deadmines is equivalent to Wailing Caverns, RFC is the horde Stockades. Deadmines has way better loot than Wailing Caverns.

The complaints about flying and arenas are overblown. If anything TBC is more like a diamond but its got a little spec of poop on it. You'd still want the diamond.

I do not miss the obnoxious drop rates for items. Then again it pads it so you are spent out in the wilderness more having to make friends but good lord it can get annoying.

It's interesting how asymmetrical everything is in vanilla. 2 classes get free mounts and the rest don't - and it's not offset by anything really. Warlock gets a free mount and summoning players. Mages get to make portals. Rogues get to open locked stuff (and I hear lockpicking can let you skip certain attunement?).

At level 12 I have made 80 gold by buying things listed on the AH that are cheaper than the vendor price, then vendoring them.

Gems are the best bet for this but during peak times, most gathered mats (leathers, herbs, ore, cloth) can go this way too as people keep trying to undercut each other

If you've never played wow, all the content is new content. Classic servers are progressive, meaning they'll be releasing content over time, so you'll be locked at certain raid tiers. Blizz have said they'd look at player progression to gauge when releases should happen, so hopefully you'll mostly have the content on farm by the time the next tier opens.
They've also said they're open to BC and Wrath servers, meaning you've got 5ish years of content to come. Even if it doesn't, you've easily got 2 years of playing the last MMO that was ever worth the time.
Given that classic hasn't, contrary to retail, foregone every single element of good MMO design, the real content is unironically the friends you made along the way.

Liking it so far, I'm taking it nice and slow. I just want to do zul'farrak.

Grinding this wont reward you exp but gives you material goods.

Such as potions with different uses, like rage potions, invisibility, running speed.
Or take up enchanting to add stats to your gear, or take up engineering for gimmicky items that are fun and great for pvp.

you can be pretty powerful as a low level with a high skilled profession.

Honestly for the best Vanilla experience, it needs to have the QoL and balance changes from BC ported back into vanilla, I mean FFS pretty much every hybrid class is absolute shit tier endgame in Vanilla. Fucking Druids literally only have two meaningful spells end game, low level heal and battle res.

common mistake.
get full points in suppression early on (affliction tree). then just level up your weapon skill for whatever is equipped. chances are if you're a low level you're using a dagger and the skill level is low. weapon skills are part of what determines your chance to hit.
once you do this and get a solid grip on your pet skills+personal survival abilities then it's smooth sailing.

Level 30 undead rogue reporting in, I'm loving the hell out of it. Finally starting to see some pvp action right now, and I'm seriously considering respeccing to sub daggers just to shit on people, but it's pretty frustating to level.

Classic reminded me of just how limited your options are in terms of race. Most classes had just two races per faction, and then due to how powerful and important racials are in classic, there's only one "real" choice - like dwarf for priest.
The expansion races added a lot of new options if you wanted to play a hunter or a caster, and then Cata allowed the Vanilla races to play more classes in general, like night elf and orc mages.

I did roll an orc. The tigers on Echo Isles really had good dps though. I didn't die during 1-10 but it was really close a few times.

No different than any level before that. I managed to find a nice staff to replace my dagger around level 6 which made the crawl to 10 better. Once you get a pet it's a whole other ball game. You can just be a stationary turret and blast everything in a 30 yard radius one by one and lap up the EXP

Night elf priest might be unironically the worst class/race combination in the game, night elf racials are worthless for priest and their priest racial skills suck too.
It's ironic because Tyrande is the original Warcraft priest, but her hero unit in WC3 is completely different from the WoW priest.

Your warrior tank will always have a way to break fear himself and if not, I guarantee there will be that one autist in the back who DID roll female dwarf

The early levels are the worst part of the game easily. The game really begins to get fun as you get to level 30 and beyond.

Hillsbrad or STV for leveling if I want lots of wpvp as level 30 Alliance? STV seems to be a lot easier to access as Horde so I'm wondering if it'll even be worth going.

It hit me so hard last night in how great classic is. Did wailing caverns with a random group and cleared it easy. Then I got my crescent staff from the quest. That huge power gain filled me with more joy than anything in retail. I forgot how good this felt 15 years ago.
