My favorite thing about American society is their demonisation of the police force because all you need for true justice is a red-blooded american and his second ammendment rights.

In Romania we have Police Academy, which is kind of like college except more rigorous and harder to get into. You need very high grades from highschool and basically perfect attendance and behaviour (which is its own separate grade here), along with physical condition.

well there is a different Baseline you need to surpass to get into a certain job, which sometimes already tells you about an other person. Where i live, there is a really high baseline to become a cop and you have to go through multiple years of training, study the law, learn self defence and speak multiple languages fluently. Im surprised how much they trust you to put up with the limited early combat being literally like 1 button and a single combo, considering how much fucking stuff gets added on down the line. The most core aspects of the combat system dont appear until File 3, and you need to upgrade your baton at least twice for that system to start fully taking shape.
Was kinda dissappointed by how limited combat was at the start but now I'm almost overwhelmed trying to keep track of all the shit I can be doing. Obviously its no Bayonetta with a massive movelist or anything but they really expect you to keep track of a lot of things and be ready for shit at an instants notice.

Lappy should give you a tour at the start of the chapter and it will be obvious from there. First upgrade gets you sword, after that they basically unlock new attacks for your baton and thus different ways to get Sync attacks (which are probably the most important aspect of combat)
You probably wont be able to upgrade it too far until File 4 I imagine.

As someone who has had ample interaction with the American police force and had police in my family, I can assure you that the only people who really become police officers are military rejects or the people who used to be bullies in high school. Not him, but I'm at file 4 and I'm finding that enemy telegraphing is not as good as it should be. There are some attacks where you literally have to press dodge the moment you hear a high-pitched sound (like those fast twin enemies) because if you wait for the sound to end, then you'll be too late to dodge. There are some attacks where you have to actually slow down and pay attention to the animation to get the dodge timing right.

I also am not a fan of the way lock-on works. For me, lock-on should always have the locked-on target dead center on the screen, not slightly off to the side.

Also, is it just me or do enemies attack you from offscreen?

Bayonetta solved this problem literally a decade ago. Whenever the trumpet angels in that game wanted to shoot you from offscreen, you would hear a distinct and loud trumpet melody indicating that the attack was coming.
