The term 'Hyper Armor' sucks. What armor? Do you wear it? Why is it hyper? Does it have emotions?
It's a very poor choice of words for what it is trying to describe. Who invented this stupid term? When? For what game? Why is it used universally in all games now? Can't we come up with something better? 'Hyper Armor'?? lol WTF?
It's fast to say when describing a fighting game in action and connotes a sense of being protected but without any invincibility.
Jordan Reed
I've never heard of hyper armor.
Justin Powell
"Hyper" as in excessive or beyond normal. So Hyper Armour would be armor that goes well beyond the norm. So you'd either have armour with unparalleled armor, or amour that is simply extraordinarily large.
Easton Brown
You mean Super Armor?
Camden Campbell
I thought it was Super Armor. Fighting games right?
Ayden Peterson
I've literally never heard of hyper armor
Dominic Kelly
>Who invented this stupid term? When? For what game? Capcom. 1995 Marvel Super Heroes.
Here is how I think it goes Armor - You can't get staggered during certain moves Super Armor - You can only get staggered by supers Hyper Armor - You can't get staggered, period
Justin Hughes
>Armor So it is leather? Kevlar? Or plate armor? You know the word sounds ridiculous in your use case, right?
Jonathan Fisher
plot armour, which is why comic book heros are utilising it.
Aaron Fisher
Its neither its just a term in which a character can't get staggered in video games. I don't care how it sounds, people use that to get a point across
Jaxon Robinson
Exactly the point of this thread. Stupid choice of words.
Carter Cook
Well, I don't think any of us is changing other people's minds.
Sebastian Green
Organic steel. The term is coined from Colossus' X-ability in X-Men: Children of the Atom in reference to the comic book character's mutant ability to coat himself in organic steel armor to increase his strength and defense.
Zangief also possesses this same ability in Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, where his Super Armor version exists as a seperate character, while he can switch between versions as a special move in Marvel vs Capcom and Marvel vs Capcom 2.
