It's okay.

It's got a lot of backtracking, or rather you go through the same areas a few times. Also its got a LONG escort mission, and it's pretty easy to get really good at the game to the point where enemies can't hurt you cause of your invincibility frames.

Outside of that it's pretty good. My favorite in the series actually.

No, it's a very okay game, as long as you play it with the thoughts in mind that it was developed by the B Team and it was never originally intended to become a Silent Hill game.

So, it should be viewed as its own thing rather than compared directly against 1, 2 and 3.

Who said its bad? Its great.

It's tedious!!!FACT!!!

If it wasn't for the escort part it would be pretty solid

I can't think of a more non scary retarded horror premise than being trapped in my room

how about stuck in your room with your internet out

Don't joke like that user

imagine being stuck alone in your room with just your thoughts. how horrifying

>was never originally intended to become a Silent Hill game.
It was changed during pre-production, it's not like they've decided it would be a Silent Hill game in the middle of development.

Yes and no. It commits the weirdest game design sins with this almost unwavering diligence, yet at the same time is home to some of the most brilliant concepts to ever grace a horror game. It's definitely a game to try for yourself and form your own opinions on.

You'd think that. You really would. And then the second half of the game happens.

It's a good game, it's just that the previous games set the bar so high and it was released at a time when gaming industry was on fire so good 7/10 games just didn't stand out so much. If only we knew what came next for SH and gaming...

its the last good silent hill game, it actually has a great atmosphere and soundtrack

Nope. It's pretty fucking gud.
Last OK Silent Hill. Spooky AF though.

yes, it's awful. The main character is autistic, locations design is a downgrade, no flashlight, half of the game is backtracking.

does it at least have the radio?

no

You're 100% wrong, that bit is creepier than the stupid zombie dogs and wall men.

I didn't really like it even though I love the first two.
It does have some of the more memorable characters in the series though.

Is SH4 the Dark Souls 2 of the SH series?

Attached: hmm_cunny.png (404x404, 118K)

Out of the original four it's easily got the worst wrap from people although personally I'd regard it as better than SH1.

No cause it's not better than SH1.

No that's probably Shattered Memories or Downpour

>Despite what has been popularized around the Internet, Silent Hill 4 was always meant to be connected to Silent Hill and not an unrelated separate horror game that later became a Silent Hill title, although different gameplay mechanics and change were intended.

It's got some REALLY goddamn questionable gameplay design choices, but the story and atmosphere is pretty fucking neato.

It's completely, utterly, totally, phenomenally average.

it's creepy as fuck and feels like the plot of a Hitchcock movie.

It's not bad as horror games go. It just has hundreds of little issues that pile up and make you dread a replay so you spend less time with it. Its "want to replay remember that part" except "that part" is every 10 minutes.

It's fucking grating and stressful as hell, which I guess was the point. Later on it's not so bad. The final boss is a pain and the escort mission sucks dick.

Better than any modern horror game.

>muh run away and hide and record on camera

I mean, Evil Within exists

It's unironically a masterpiece and one of the greatest horror games ever made, but it's not Silent Hill 2 or 3 so people like to pretend it's bad.

The concept of being trapped in an apartment is stephen king tier of kino

But nobody thought Evil Within was that good except me

Yes it was fucking bad, especially the second one.

>open world '''''''horror'''''''
whoever was marketing this as horror needs to be shot

Nah. Still one of the most memorable horror games of this generation imo, even if it followed the RE4 formula too closely. TEW2 was just fine.

You guys should seriously check out this guys in depth analysis on the first Silent Hill. He's also doing the second game. I have never seen a better decoding of this game ever. These games might possibly have the best stories ever told in gaming.

I dunno I always thought the cult stuff was cheesy stupid B-Movie shite
>How could a video game reach so far into the deepest parts of the human psyche?
cringe

Brainlet detected

Not the guy who posted the vids but with regards to the Cult stuff, I agree that it being just a generic sort of cult was kinda lame but the thing I actually like about the Cult in 3 is how its fracturing, usually cults are just depicted as one uniform body and when the leader dies it's just complete chaos like some end of the world stuff so it's somewhat refreshing to see a cult depicted as losing power due to a charismatic leader but able to recover in a potentially more ferocious form.

Cults can be done in a cerebral and scary way, e.g. Rosemary's Baby. Silent Hill doesn't do that
I do agree that it's interesting to see a cult fracture, it happens a lot in real life

right up there with "cellular phone make you into a zombie" and "what if trucks were sentient"

Be quite and watch the whole thing brainlet.

I guarantee it's just some cunt looking far too deep into a B-Movie cult plotline

He's college educated in the occult and psychology. The two biggest themes of these games brainlet.

Its fine, just you will never

Fucking ever

On your life, have the urge to replay that fucking time sink of walking back and forth because you forgot shit or dont have the space to hold shit

>unironically
meaningless buzzword, stop saying this
