Draw a handful of cures and a few basic elements early on - like 20-40. That's all you need to to start.

Most of your magic should come from turning cards into items and then those items into magic. So prioritize unlocking the Card ability to turn enemies into cards, you get it from Quetzacotl. Each time you get a new GF prioritize the refine items/elemnts abilities.

Don't draw 100 spells from every enemy you encounter and never bother summing your GFs. That's how retards play.

This, but I'd even argue against using rare cards for the conversion thing, cause shit like 100 tornadoes junctioned to strength really break the game

FF5 kind of sucks. It's not exactly bad but it's not good either. It's more fun than 4, the characters have more expressions etc, but the story is kind of thin and most of the game is just battles, mostly consisting of forced dungeons of one sort of another you have to go through.

FF6 is objectively in the top 5 games in the series, the top 5 being FF4, FF6, FF7, FF8 and FF9. It's not THE best but it's better than both 7 and 8 in many ways (not in every way, therefore it's inferior to them overall).

What are some games with a "real fantasy" aesthetic like VIII?
XV came close but most of the world was wilderness and samey outposts.

This. Make sure GFs learn all of the Refine abilites. Your magic / item worries are now solved.

Because people also claimed that Tifa was redesigned "for aesthetic reasons" as if her old design/model wouldn't translate well into current gen visuals, even though her Dissidia model is based on the original design and looks completely fine, and arguably better than the redesign. You never get to junction a GF for any reason. This leaves you with Limits and Attacks.

You can consider this playthrough beat once you get to the save point before Ultimecia. She is technically beatable, but her first form has way too much randomness involved (she chooses the first 3 characters for you and immediately curses them meaning no limits and you NEED Invincible Moon or some serious Slot luck). Assuming you get through her first phase with the team you want you have the rest of her bullshit to deal with.

I actually enjoyed playing through the game like this. Encounters revolved around using the correct party members at all times and really knowing how the game works inside and out.

I've never played XV, is it really that good?

XV is the fourth best Final Fantasy game after the Lightning trilogy.

It feels like 20% solid Final Fantasy fluffed up with 80% ubisoft game-design shit, checklist after checklist of menial tasts and meaningless encounters, boring overworlds that only exist for the sake of it etc etc
Its a miracle they managed to salvage the game, but that doesn't make it good in the slightes

My only grief is that the junctionning effect on stats depends on the quantity of that one spell you have, meaning if you use it, your stats go down.
It should have only taken the spell into account, so that the first time you encounter it and aquire it means you basically increased your stats, assuming you try and find the best ones to junction.

It is easy enough to junction spells you don't need to use to stats you want (tons of the non-staple spells have high stat benefits).

Plus, in some cases they replace the actual spell fully. Having 100 Hastes or Triples junctioned to your Speed eliminates the need to even use Haste because your bar fills so damn fast.

Enemies leveling up is dumb. The enemies you fight at the beginning of the game should feel easy when you get to the end of the game. Making them scale is just a simple but ineffective way to solve the problem of how easy proper junctioning makes the game.

The correct way to play FFVIII is to almost completely ignore the Draw/Junction system because fiddling with it will make you overpowered very quickly.

Just draw one of each spell from each enemy you encounter. That's all you need to beat the game while keeping it challenging and not tedious. Only faggots waste their time drawing 100 of each spell or refining cards into 100 ultimas so they can oneshot every boss.

Just download the original and play it through ePSXe and don't stretch the image; select "use window size in fullscreen mode" and set it to 640x480 (2x) or 960x720 (3x) at most. That way the pixels don't get too large. Only ePSXe can run this way.

ePSXe is a complete garbage emulator and should never be recommended. It has ALWAYS been shit and makes every PS1 game look ugly as fuck. The correct course of action is to use Retroarch with the default PS1 core which actually emulates the look of PS1 games correctly.

I made a small typo in that post -- the resolutions you should use is either 640x448 (2x) or 960x672 (3x), since the game resolution is 320x224 -- not 320x240.

Use these settings. These settings give you a crystal-clear, perfect 3x upscale. Whatever you do, make sure you NEVER stretch/filter the backgrounds or apply some silly blurring filter to them, as that will ruin the details.

The only thing you might wanna turn on here is "Texture filtering - Extended wo sprites" to smooth out the everything /apart from/ the backgrounds, BUT that will make the characters models less sharp, battles and the world map blurry.

Rinoa has very period specific fashion and dicking with it makes things weird (and considering this is nostalgia bait, fucks with said nostalgia). This applies to her hair as well. It's not even like Tifa whose outfit is partially contemporary functional and partially fantasy and has an aesthetically similar modernized equivalent if she were designed today, Rinoa in 2019 would just flat out have an entirely different appearance based on what is currently in style. So any 2019 sensibility seeping into that 1998 look weakens the entire thing and subtracts from the feeling of the character.

They probably should be redone because ingame Squall in the remaster doesn't look like his FMV counterpart.

Most likely they have not been remade, for the simple reason that it's cheaper to just re-use them. I'm 99% sure the FMVs are the same, but I'm also 95% sure they will have done SOMETHING TO them like increasing the saturation (resulting in oversaturated inaccurate colors) or increased the contrast (resulting in crushed white and black levels) or applied some blur or sharpening filter.

Personally would've bought this better if they would've just left the game alone like with FFVII and FFIX (I know of the minor things of those two remasters, but they are mostly the same thing through and through with 3x speed and decent framerates).

Right, and as a result of ditching them from the start I've never become disappointed by any game they've put out. As soon as news came that they would merge I suspected it would be bad for both Square's and Enix's games, and when I saw what they did with X-2 I just took that as confirmation that everything had gone to hell and would just get worse. I played X-2 through a copy a friend had bought, but I've never bought a Squenix game. I downloaded FF12 and played it via emulator last year (mostly just to test how well a new computer build could handle PCSX2), and it was just as bad as I had imagined back in the day, if not worse. But since I spent no money on it and had no expectations, I didn't get disappointed.

You're probably getting baited into specific card placements. The AI will put down a card that looks like an easy double for you but their next card will get them a bunch of Same/Plus/etc flips. If a placement seems too good then think about what could happen after you place your card.
