This isn't a regular action game where you just have to worry about attacking and dodging, you have a lot of tools in your arsenal that require using the right stick and paying attention to positioning. You may not like it, but attacking with the shoulder buttons is what peak performance looks like.

Anyone else find the chain jumping really flimsy? Only on chapter 3, but it's really frustrating missing a jump because the game just doesn't want you to land. Same thing with the slash attacks relying so heavily on the focus. I don't know why it doesn't just auto activate the focus in the first place. Tieing it to the R3 button just makes feel awful to activate.

The ranking system is so weird in this game compared to Platinum's others. I died to the Cerberus boss and used a fuckload of items but still got a S, but in some regular fights I do well and still get a D.

No. Nier Automata was basically a two button game. You could spam dodges endlessly and attacking was basically a one-two buttons ( but didn't really matter. ).

I swear to god, this game uses just about every button in combat. On top of having combo-esq combat + the dual focus of TWEWY. It's nothing like Nier Automata.

The story seems less interesting than Nier but the gameplay is better by far. I like it less than Bayo I think but it's the first Platinum game I've played since MGR that I thought wasn't just shitty Bayonetta.

I’m fine with killing the fodder and the shield chimera/knight chimera since I understand how to use chain counter. But Cerberus, Chimera Kong, and that red samurai thing just push my shit in since you can’t abuse binding them or overpower them with sync attacks.

the legatus no since it barely goes up with levels so i would say not leveling up your legion would increase it
sword legion isn't even completely leveled up and has 50 atk on top of 50% crit dmg so everything is dying pretty quickly
later upgrades aside from ATK DEF and skills for slots are the command skills which you input with the stick and these can lead to cutscene type attacks if you do them till the end

Platinum games are notorious for not giving you your whole move-set at the beginning and all your moves are necessary to get anything done is a reasonable amount of time which affects your grade. When you go back to chapter one with all the moves you have from the end of the game, it'll be a cake walk.

Take wonderful 101 for example. Certain enemies in that game charge at you and at the start, there's nothing you can do but stay out of the way. But when the shop opens up you have to BUY a parry and all the sudden fights go much faster.

I can totally understand not wanting to use the shoulder buttons for attack in an action heavy game because I'm also afraid that it will fuck them up fast. However once Legion combo attacks and movements are unlocked I can see why they mapped the buttons out the way they are. Especially when it comes to chain jumping.

Maybe if I didn't have to buy another faggot console to play a single game before chucking it into the corner with the others.

Try to play it like as if you are playing Monster Hunter without any evade skills. Even if you perfectly dodge an attack you still have to consider whether the attack is multi-hit or have long frames. You can't just do sick nasty counter attacks like other Platinum games unless you are certain that you can stagger them.

I feel like hitting these on 2 different enemies at once insta-killed both of them but it's possible they were on low health.

More complex than I thought. At start it feels simple and limited but then you unlock all the legion, their different link attacks and then you also get DMC style motion input attacks for both legions and your own character and then then the variety and things you can do massively improve.
Its super fun to do perfect dodge, counter with a launcher, into a chain link and then another into a special.
It's still not an air juggler like DMC tho. But the combat is fucking nice

It's not bad once the game actually gives you your proper moveset. It ends with a nice Sync Combo opener for some chunky damage too. Starts out awful though, does literally 2 damage per shot.

I don't know, I'm not that far in right now. I imagine in changing the legions you use ranged becomes a better option. But there are also times where you'll be forced to use ranged in fights. I do like using ranged when you've got that many enemies and you can just flick the right analog and quickly cover a wide spread with your gun.

So I'm not sure if it's the same you're talking about. I just got to the first enemy encounter after the beast legion. There's like some fast teleporting kinda dudes and one of them has a shield thing spinning behind it. The enemy that generates the shield thing is up in the air somewhere. It's kinda hidden. Use arrow Legion to shoot that enemy and it'll descend and try and attack you. Take it out and none of the enemies will have the shield.

What even is the point of this? doing it on every legions after every case is time consuming and annoying.

I just can't get it down. Fist boy keeps wrecking my shit. The dodge feels like it comes out way too slow for most of his attacks, or I'm too slow to hit it in time. If I'm concentrating on not getting hit, I basically forget to use my legion in attacks; if I do use my legion I either lose concentration and get smacked, or I don't pay attention to the energy bar and he runs out of juice.
I might be too much of a brainlet for this game.
