what's the appeal of this series? i feel like the only character i see from this series is that little succubus girl

making small numbers big numbers

>what's the appeal of this series?
This dood right here.

It's only dated compared to its own sequels. Disgaea is unique enough, even compared to other games in the genre, that it feels fresh no matter when you happen to play it, with only the PS2 version of the original with its slow speed and unskippable animations showing its age.

It's a tactical RPG like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics, but very over-the-top in its presentation and mechanics. Basically, if Fire Emblem is Street Fighter, Disgaea is Guilty Gear. You're encouraged to exploit the mechanics as much as possible to power-level yourself to absurd limits and use team combos to gang up on enemies like you're shaking them down for lunch money. It's a lot of fun, but it's not for everyone.

If you're a boomer who grew up at the height of goth girls who were into Invader Zim, Fullmetal Alchemist, Elfen Lied and whatnot Disgaea was THE series to be into, they ate that shit up like Harry Potter.

Actually yes. I'm a big fan of JRPGs but I dropped Disgaea after a while. I'm just not autistic enough to care about the grind. It wasn't bad for the time I played it.

Grinding to see your numbers go up very quickly. The main story can be beat without doing that but the post-game gets ridiculous and lasts way longer than the main game itself. After a certain point, grinding gets very easy so it just feels good to see everybody get continuously stronger.

Why does Laharl dress like a slut?

It’s number porn.

The Netherworld is a hot place. In many ways.

Laharl is a boy though, he shouldn't be dressing like that.

>Only 9 Move and 28 Jump

Attached: etnasmug.png (150x150, 44K)

You're right. He should dress more like this boy.

the Summon Night nintendo spinoffs play like a dated Tales game
still better than Golden Sun

The only thing I remember about those games is summoning a lesbian

I want to smell that priest

>Laharl is a boy
No she's not. Please don't misgender her.

the kissing humor is gold

are squad attacks the strongest attacks in d5?

Up until you get the highest-tier skills, they are. They also have the benefit of having an absurd area of effect. The downsides are that only a Squad Leader can use the skill, and only once while in Revenge Mode.

What do japonese prinnies say?

-ssu. Like desu, but half-assed and informal.

I'm not full weeb, so what is desu? Is it like a childish way of talking?

Attached: 1475084072245.png (500x500, 51K)

I'm not 100% sure, but I think ending your sentences with desu softens the tone and is considered more polite. So the Prinnies half-assing it shows that they're lazy and insincere.

Dammit I'm almost ready to replay disgaea 1 just to hang out with Gordon again why isn't he in more of the games.

Japan doesn't know what the fuck Flash Gordon is so they don't get the joke. So the EDF crew aren't popular there.

why was Gordon fine with Laharl demolishing a horde of ships?

Those ships were there to attack them and Gordon was told he was being retired, so any love he had for the EDF was out the window at that point.

When's the next game?

yes

NIS has to somehow pull itself out of the pit of debt it worked itself into first. Disgaea 4 Complete Plus and that mobile game are essentially their Hail Mary ploys.

I thought they said SAH like a engrish exclamation of SIR
Don't they even say AYE AYE SAH
?

I just got Disgaea 5 on the switch recently. Is there any reason I shouldn't use the DLC characters in the beginning? Would it make the game too easy?

Only a few of them are really busted, but that's also true of the generics. Disgaea 5 is balanced pretty well, all things considered, at least compared to older games in the series. Just use whomever you like. There's no wrong way to play the games. Except for quitting as soon as you hit the credits and not playing the post game. That's a wrong way to play.

I hope the mobile gets dubbed or not. I just hope it gets localized.

>Great music
>Fun if you like SRPG's (the first "half" requires strategy anyway"
>Flashy attack animations
>Big numbers
>Awesome character designs
Like 2 or more of any of these and there's a high chance you'll like Disgaea

Bought Labyrinth of Refrain, it's pretty neat.

Yeah, I liked it a lot more than I was expecting to. It's been so long since the likes of Phantom Brave and Soul Nomad that I forgot that NIS knows how to write a good, serious story.

Too bad will have to wait for the sequel for awhile. Especially any switch users.

Oh woops, by "first half" I mean the story. Once post game starts, it's one shot or be one shot.

Attached: 20181107220751_1.jpg (1920x1080, 512K)

The games have been much better about that since DD2 and D4 Vita. Tanking hits is now a perfectly viable strategy, and the tank class itself is pretty busted.

FLAAAAAAAAAAT

You could always just pump the difficulty as well, fair enough.

>Used to be mega milk only
>Have recently awakened to the delight of flat
Flat with big nipples is some god tier shit, makes me hard as steel.

Also here if anyone wants to recreate my thief palette. It's been way too long to remember what's the base though, sorry, probably the final tier. Which brings me to another point, some colors on certain classes is outright impossible, I hope in 6 they give us a wheel.

Attached: 20181106022220_1.jpg (1920x1080, 397K)

Was 5 the first game to have this color customization?

I believe so, I think I would remember if it had it.

Attached: 2015-02-14-175850.jpg (960x544, 102K)

Yeah, previous games only let you pick between preset pallets. It's not perfect though, because the game fights you a bit when you try to change the colors too much. I don't know what the deal is, but for the most part it works.

Attached: EDRixKjWkAIXTKk.jpg (1280x720, 185K)

Is this a Petta spell? I don't remember it from the PS4 version.

I do love the option but I find I prefer my units in their default colors best of all.

I agree for the most part, but I do like giving them some slight tweaks to make them unique. My Valkyrie, for instance, has the default hair, but the clothing colors of the highest-tier and a slight tan. Works for me.

Attached: D-_-_s4VAAAeN0B.jpg (1280x720, 192K)

Yeah I think it was Vita only, should be in that remake though

It's not enough though, I had wanted to give all my main chars a white/gold outfit, but on some it's literally impossible

Attached: Disgaea 5_ Alliance of Vengeance_20160329185437_12.jpg (1920x1080, 294K)

Its a neat idea actually. It makes it look like that Valkyrie rose up the ranks and worked hard to do it.

At least people here know how to shade
>Invaded by someone
>Warrior with solid blue hair and black void pants

All Valks work hard.

I gotta admit, I love how much more personality the generics have in Disgaea 5, partly thanks to them getting their own unique skills. The Valkyrie basically turned into Danette and I'm grateful for it.

Attached: D2ab394db36a5ad0e31e166e711915a0525ce42a.jpg (600x793, 50K)

brown is best

Each personality type also has different voice clips and different things to say when you talk to them

The tan looks better, but it needs to be more on the red side and a bit less saturated. Right now she almost looks like a Simpsons character.

I only played 1 but enjoyed it quite a bit. If I don't want to go through the whole series, what should I play next?

Attached: Kancho - typo (requiemdusk).jpg (844x1000, 116K)

If you're not interested in playing the whole series, you may as well jump straight to Disgaea 5, since with the exception of DD2 they all get noticeably better from a mechanical perspective as the series goes on. The story isn't very good, so if that'd bother you, you could wait until the Disgaea 4 re-release coming soon and play that.

Another underrated thing I love about these games, yes the stage clear art, but these item descriptions man.

Ok, I'll tint it a bit.

If you really don't, then just jump straight to 5. Thing is, each sequel improves on the formula so intensely, it makes a previous edition hard to play. Tried replaying 2 after playing 5 for awhile. Was almost impossible.

Is the steam version okay? I heard stuff is missing compared to console versions.

Attached: crossed legs - typo (requiemdusk).jpg (1400x787, 92K)

>partly thanks to them getting their own unique skills
That was the best thing to happen to the generics. In particular I love how Magic Knight now has elemental sword skills to play around with as an alternative to spells.

what was the point of adding D5 weapons to D2?

Of 5? Steam version has absolutely everything, dunno where you heard that from.

The Steam version is missing network functionality, but that's so minor it's barely worth mentioning. In the PS4 and Switch versions, you could set a squad to invade other players on Item World runs, but it was like Gravelording in the original version of Dark Souls in that you couldn't see it and it wasn't worthwhile. You could also design your own maps and share them with other users, but literally the only thing anyone used it for was making maps designed for grinding skill and weapon levels. You really aren't missing out if you get the Steam version, but if it bothers you that much, it's all there on the Switch, which is the version I'd recommend anyway just for the ability to grind while watching TV or taking a shit or whatever.

Oh yeah. That stuff's so insignificant I legitimately forgot about it, PC *is* missing some things, I suppose.

ullillia's disgaea videos are kino

The PC version has fixed evility descriptions. Officially mind it, not by a mod.
