Thanks user! Yeah, It's everything from the artstyle to the music to the level and enemy design that makes me love Mega Man so much. Inspired me to become a musician, actually.
As much as I love Daggerfall, I'm inclined to nudge it out for Dragon Quest 3 instead. It's pretty neck and neck though.

Music is extremely powerful and can make or break a game, depending on how good or bad it is. I love Mega Man from a gameplay perspective, but the music is a gigantic part of its identity and a part of what makes the games so damn good.

Funny, when I was young I had a period where I played a bunch of 8/16-bit game (I'm in my early 20s so I missed out on them) and I guess I fell in love with Castlevania over Megaman for those same reasons. Was already a musician before getting into the games, though

Could always buy a used PS4 (can get them for around $150 pretty easily) and sell the game after you platinum it. That's what I planned to do, but I loved the game so much I decided to keep it. I still feel kind of stupid though, I still haven't bought another PS4 game and most of the exclusives don't interest me

Many people prefer Thief 2 because it plays more like a thieving simulator with some additional fantasy elements thrown in occasionally. Oh same I'm in my early 20's too. I guess the difference is that due to money, I grew up with a lot of older games, though PC gaming outside of Doom eluded me until I was like 16. Castlevania has some absolute bangers for music; one of my favorite tracks in that series is Mad Forest from CV3.

I have all the ironmans in Super Meat Boy as well a number of 1cc and no damage runs. N++ is probably the best example of platformer design, with something like IWBTG fangames being the worst

I could not imagine a less appealing array of games.

You might like the Redneck Rampage games, too (I'd recommend pirating because they're kind of bearers of mixed opinions [and make sure you try the expansion for the first one, "Suckin' Grits On Route 66"]), but Blood is basically exactly like Duke Nukem 3D or Shadow Warrior except based on low budget horror movies and filled with a they'd-get-sued-if-they-made-it-today level of references and fountains of blood and gore.

You've got 2 options for running Blood on a modern computer:

1. Source port. NBlood LOOKS more accurate, but BuildGDX PLAYS more accurately. I'd recommend BuildGDX because it literally has perfect enemy AI. Literally down to the slightest details, it's fucking perfect. Arguably the most accurate source port you will ever see for anything. Graphics are 99% of the way there, so it looks close enough.

2. DOSBox. This will get you 100% accuracy, at the cost to 2 issues: 1) Obviously you can't run it in widescreen, and 2) difficulty settings are FUCKED. If you want to play it on the middle setting this is a non-issue (because it's the only one that works perfectly), but if you want to play it on the harder settings or easier settings then the whole game will just be fucked. This was NOT a problem in the original game on old computers. But on modern computers for some reason DOSBox has this problem.

Either way, make sure you get the GOG version ("One Unit Whole Blood"). DON'T get the "remaster" ("Fresh Supply"). It's alright, but it's not close enough as far as I, and most of the fanbase, are concerned. Explosions in particular are weird, which alone is a deal breaker for me.

Once you've got your shit setup, I would HIGHLY recommend downloading a map pack called "Death Wish". This is going to have an update in a month or 2, so keep your eye on that as well. But anyway, Death Wish is for my money THE best fan-made mod/level pack for ANY game in ANY genre I have EVER played. This isn't even a controversial opinion either. If you look up fan reviews of it the praise is absolutely absurd. The dude that made it (bloatoid, who rarely posts on /vr/) also made a couple other map packs called "Inherit The Earth" and "Hostile Takeover", both of which are great as well and recommended. But Death Wish is an absolute must play. Dude just GETS Blood. The atmosphere, aesthetics, and set pieces are just perfectly in tune with the original game.

And if you're running it in a source port, just dump the mods/level packs into their own folder inside of your Blood folder. And make sure all the files are in a single folder (if they aren't already when you download them). Then you can load them from in the game's menu.

More important shit:

The highest difficulty setting ("Extra Crispy") is not really recommended. It was designed for co-op and literally not even tested for single player. It's so hard it makes Nightmare in the old Doom games seem easy by comparison (this is not an exaggeration). It's not that it's unfun or that there's anything wrong with it, it's just that even if you expect it to be hard as fuck it'll still likely be far, FAR harder than you could expect it to be. Just a heads up so just incase you try that first you'll know that it doesn't really represent the "normal" experience of the game.

If the cutscenes are not running then you'll need to download the necessary files and put them in their own folder inside of your Blood folder and name it "movie". /vr/ can point you in the right direction to find these files.

There's an official sequel. Even if you decide to pirate it, don't spend 1 single cent of your money on it. You will regret it if you do. I wouldn't recommend even pirating it. Death Wish takes place at the same time anyway and a lot of the fandom has kind of collectively decided that Death Wish is "the REAL Blood 2".

My biggest issue with the sequel was the weapons have NO impact to them. It feels like you're firing a water squirt gun. This is in STRONG contrast to the original game where the weapons were some of the most impactful in FPS history.

I actually somewhat like the atmosphere in some spots, and the voice acting is still fine (but even then the lines aren't as memorable), but it's still overall a disappointment compared to the original game.

Ok, then. That's one thing i don't like about a lot of shooters nowandays (with a couple of exceptions) is that guns doesn't have the same oomphs as old-school fps. Should i pirate it just to check it out or is it so bad that i shouldn't waste my time with it?

If you value your time then it's probably not worth it. I think most people who've played it are die hard fans of the original who were just curious what the sequel was like. There's nothing in there that you're missing if you don't play it.
