That's a good list. Certainly agree with Suikoden II and Chrono Trigger.

I prefer Lufia II, Disgaea, Mother 3, and FF6 to your other picks, but I also enjoyed all of the games you listed. I like Fire Emblem IV a lot too, but it's probably too flawed to make a top list.

You don't list many modern RPGs. Three Houses and Xenoblade are both excellent games that I think compare nicely to FFX and SMT IV in terms of what a 3D RPG is capable of.

Can someone actually expalin why ff7 is disregarded as the best ff? Best characters, music, plot, and the battle/materia system was most fun, albeit too simple.

Too simple battle system is my only gripe: the story, the - going from average joe to rebellion leader with army and recruiting peeps for in your army: and all having a personality: well, it's just awesome.

I don’t really think final fantasy X belongs here. What’s so great about it? The story is nonsense. The characters are dumb. The dialogue is bad. The game itself is extremely linear which wouldn’t be a bad thing if done right. The temples and their trials are so wonky and offputting and don’t belong in a FF game.

I am like 12 hours or something into Suikoden 2 without remembering where the fuck I am. Is it really worth continuing? I remember defending a castle that is now my HQ. I just kinda lost interest in recruiting people which might just add hours of backtracking to find the right moment or party member to bring to get them.

Its hard to recommend if you are not enjoying it at this point. My main complaint is that it's far too easy.
