It is really easy even in hard, you only need to worry a little in the first few maps then you unlock the power to turn back turns and even if you fuck up (or get screw by a random crit) you dont need to reset 30 minute maps like in the old games.

I know I'll get a lot of hate for this but as I have now played the BL and GD path I think BL actually has the weakest cast. I think BL has really strong characters in Dimitri, Dedue, and Felix but the others don't really come off as the childhood friends we're told they are. GD cast has better chemistry I feel since there's a balance of commoners snd nobles among them, giving a lot of material to work with. BE surprised me as while Edelgard doesn't blend in with the cast the students are all pretty chemistry, both with one another and other classes.

I gave up on that and went full swordmaster with her.

There is, when you marry someone that cutscene will be saved and you can view it from the main menu. I don't know if using the same save save file before that point saves them but I can't think of why it wouldn't. Do note that some marriage options are exclusive to specific routes too.

I like monsters, adds variety to the enemy units, though battalions are kind of overpowered. I think they should limit how many you can bring to a map, it would be okay if only three or so units could use them but allowing everyone to have one is pretty dumb.

BE is a good start since it's the shortest route and you get an okay-ish idea of what's going on
Then you can either do GD or Church, preferably GD because seeing the exact same plot beats as PT1 is very tiresome, you're probably better off skipping it unless you REALLY want to fuck Rhea
Then probably BL last since it's not only the most traditional FE route of the three, it's also the one most involved in the war and personal drama, so it fits to end the game with a more character driven story as opposed to the rest.

Funny that all El had to do to not make Dimitri go nuclear is drop the FE moniker, you know put two and two together and realize that using the same moniker as someone who showed up at the tragedy of Duscur is probably not the best idea.

Catherine would still be way better, her growths are pretty damn good meaning she can be used even in endgame. Alois is fi ne fpr when you get him but his growths make him unwise to invest in. Still, on the current difficulties you can make anyone work really.
Him and Lorenz, ended up liking both a lot. Him and Bernie are the two BE students I set out to save on my playthroughs, I try to recruit only personal favorites.

Lorenz is pretty much the poster boy for this. He ends up just being such a charming and shockingly ethical character. It's hard to hate him. Looking back, he's just a better Virion, a character that himself was already unexpectedly great.
Sylvain was a big disappointment in comparison. I mean the twist is there and I get why he's such a douche, but that doesn't exactly make him an endearing or likable ally.

Tragic backstories are fine so long as they justify the character's actions and behaviors. With Felix it works since it plays into his character and his ideals while not being the sole aspect of his character.

He's not mad about being kicked out of his country and sentenced to death. He's mad about Edelgard invading his country.
He goes on a full rampage against her, until his pitiful death with his last moments being still seething and cursing her.

Literally BE and non-BE timeskip are two entirely different scenarios in every way, with entirely different characters with different personalities and issues.

BL just chose not to focus on the story, so better deal with the slithers on accident instead of not at all and just give it a passing remark in the epuilgue.

Doing Raphael and Ignatz paralogue and them finding out that Lorenz’a father could be involved in Raphael’s parents death, how does he react? ‘Lorenz is not his father’. What an absolute good boy.

I think what makes Raphael work so well is that he has a sad backstory, and it does play a key role in his character motivation (GOTTA HELP MY SIS), but he carries no real angst over it and has coped with his loss in a healthy manner, in part because he has living family that he has to care for now.

Absolutely, but I can't help but imagine an alternate timeline where the story did a little more to include them.

>Cut the mission where you help the alliance, instead you march straight into the Empire after saving your Kingdom.
>Confrontation with Edelgard goes about the same, but before you can kill her she gets teleported away.
>Learn that the Slithers kidnapped her, and are making modifications to her in a desperate bid to salvage the war.
>Raid their base, tear apart their numbers.
>Final confrontation is still with monster Edelgard, just now in a dubstep base rather than her throne room. Everything else plays out mostly the same.
While we're at it also cut the Volcano map so we can have an extra map for retaking the kingdom. Taking back the capital in a single map was a little jarring.

I do think it weird that Lorenz isn't involved at all though. Even if you bring him to the mission, no special dialogue before or after.

That's the case for almost everyone though. Lorenz is fucking the best in his supports, but all of his monastery or story dialogue is "muh nobles".

You unknowingly kill a bunch of undercover slithers like Arundel, who was Thales in disguise. Cornelia was one was well.

Play the other routes and you'll realize that Dimitri and his merry band of oblivious people ended up killing them all on accident

Felix is such a wonderful edgelord character. He's far more endearing than other similar characters because

This would really bring down the route, in my opinion.
BL works because Edelgard is the central villain from the beginning to the end, add some manipulation/experimentation during the route itself and it loses its charm, because even if she is final boss, feels like she's playing second fiddle to the slithers.
This is obviously all true in other routes but BL is so personal it's better if you leave her as the sole villain in it.

Beat 3H and loved it and want mkre FE but not sure where to go from here. I am interested in Geneology of the Holy War as it is said to be the most similar to 3H in terms of plot and conflict but Conquest is said to have the best gameplay but awful characters and plot. There's also the gba games which I know everyone loves. My only prior experience to FE is Awakening but I dropped it as I hated the cast, plot, and eugenics bullshit.

Any suggestions?

I feel the opposite way. The Slithers are clearly set up as being the big bads behind everything, but only one route treats them with an even remote amount of dignity. Having them just all die off screen or get accidentally BOAR'd just discredits what is supposed to be an incredibly powerful and dangerous organization.
And it's not like I'm saying remove Edelgard. She should, at the end of the day, be your final obstacle, her conflict with Dimitri is such a major theme of the route that it would be wrong if she weren't. I'm just saying it would be nice if they tied her in with the Slither lore (especially since they're already set up in literally every route, BL just opts to ignore them almost completely).
Having your final confrontation with her be in a Slither base would just be a convenient way of both doing that, and also giving resolution to a plot thread that is just left dangling otherwise.

If a mother unit does not get married, you actually get dumped with a completely new unit that replaces the child unit.
Don't worry too much about optimization, honestly the game is designed around you not doing that, going full eugenics makes the game super easy.
