Lunastra and most of the monsters in the game suck dick to fight because the dynamic of roaring changed.

With very few exceptions (Rathalos) getting roared in previous games just meant you lost some damage, and you might be stuck in a relatively bad position once both you and the monster get un-stunned from roaring. On the other hand, if you evade the roar, it's Free Damage. It feels good.

In MHW, monsters recover from roaring (most of the time, Diablos probably doesn't) faster than the hunter does from the roar stun, and immediately launch a quick attack to hit you. Lunastra's single tail swipe, etc., something with low wind-up. So now, if you DON'T evade or otherwise negate a roar, you're the one taking Free Damage, and it sucks fucking dick.

Don't get me wrong, MHW is hella fucking easy, but also I think it's pretty alright. But this design change really fucking sucks. I didn't mind too much when Rathalos did it because he was the only one who would do some gay shit like that, but now fucking everyone's doing it.

Xeno's fight is genuinely one of the easiest in the game because it's too big to pose a threat at close range, and too slow to surprise people. Just watch its head whenever you're not directly under it, and run away when it rears up.

Monsters attacking you out of a roar is nothing new. You had to be positioned to avoid it then just like you do now, or pack Earplugs. Nothing has changed.

You can dodge roars, you can block roars, there is an antiroar mantle, and even a passive skill that makes you completely immune to roars.

windproof helps with her regular flap attacks but does absolutely nothing for the supernova. You can dive regular/tempered supernova and survive but you just have to farcaster every time AT lunastra does it since the geniuses at capcom decided that the only reliable method to bait out nova uses something that she gains resistance to :^)
It works as long as she's fully charged up but see above. she gains resistance to it after the third or fourth one so after that you're shit outta luck

This is the only monster I've yet to beat, and it' not for a lack of trying
Pandora's Arena is bullshit because you can't even run away from her, and last I checked, I can't even SOS and get help fighting her

They stand out of range of most attacks and dump huge damage almost for free. The attacks that can actually hit them tend to one-shot them though so most of what you'll hear anecdotally are shitters carting every time. Real bow "mains" are rare as fuck and you'll almost never see one that can dodge roars without evade window or act as the Behemoth tank reliably.

Do you even realize that you have to be basically in point blank range for spread shots so they'd actually deal full damage, retards? You will run out of power coatings even with nitroshrooms anyway and that would even further reduce the distance between you and a monster.

Vast fucking majority of fights I fight in basically the same range as I fight with a melee weapon. This is mandatory for your full damage from spreads which is the main source of bow damage.

If you are too far away from a monster then you are simply not utilizing a bow correctly, you deal shit damage and you have no idea how to use it right.
Which is, obviously, not surprising because a lot of shitters like you have no idea how to use a bow properly anyway.

Hadn't bothered with the previous betas at all, messing around with it today. Wyrmstake Blast is slightly awkward but seems really useful. Makes me hope that there will be sling-load consumables in the game so I can reload it on the go more easily and with ammunition of my choosing, instead of scrambling around every 3-4 minutes looking for more. Wish it was it's own stake ammunition instead of using the existing ammo, too, so I didn't have to do a full reload after. And/or a faster combo to apply it.
