Holding the attack button prevents a Dodge from happening. Regardless of whatever frame of whatever attack the player is on, the Dodge button does not work is the attack button is being held down, even if the player has fully completed their attack and is motionless.
This is honestly fucking absurd. Attacks can be cancelled at any time with Dodge, and yet my finger has to be a full inch a way from attack for the Dodge to even register. Incredibly frustrating and unnecessary

It's very different than everything else. At the very closest I guess it has some similarities with W101. There's a lot more depth than it looks at first but that's mostly because they withhold like 70% of the combat mechanics until the third chapter which is like two hours in.

You control two guys; your PC and his Legion, sometimes simultaneously.

PC is the main attacker, but his weapons are slightly weaker than the legions, but he always has access to ranged, light, and heavy attacks. Legion is slightly stronger, but he auto attacks unless you’re doing a special command (L-inputs and two special attacks you equip to X and Y)
Additionally, the positioning of your legion is super important, and you have to move it around manually sometimes for max efficiency. You can send it out like a rocket, wrap it around people to lock them in place, or pull yourself to it’s location

You can’t jump on your own, which is off putting at first

All of this is sorta complex, which is why I think they don’t give you all of your move set until like chapter 3

I have some problems with the enemy tells though and get hit quite a lot, so I might find it more challenging than it actually is. So far there has not been a single quicktime event and I'm 2 hours in, so I doubt there will be any. Anyone calling it a qte fest has not played the game and just wants to shit on the game. Seeing the pic that you posted you will probably like the customizeable aspects of your female protagonist.

How long is this game? I'm still finishing up with Fire Emblem and if I'm going to play it soon I want to be able to finish it before DQXI and Link's Awakening come out.

Reviews say about 15 hours, more if you want to replay on hard mode or S rank all missions. Seems like the usual Platinum length.

DMC5 also makes you play on normal the first time, I don't see how that makes it a bad game.

I really don't like how they turned the prone punt into a Heat move. In Yakuza 6 Kiryu does it as a regular attack and it's not only much more satisfying, it doesn't break the flow of combat and also gives it weaponized purpose - since you can try to aim it at other enemies to damage or knock them down, creating a punting loop.

I'd recommend the pro controller in general if you plan on playing anything docked.

It's okay with joycons. I don't even have a pro controller and I've never ran into problems so far. I actually like using joycons since I can have my hands in a more natural position.

I personally can't go back to Joycons after using a Pro controller unless I'm playing something simple in handheld mode. If you have the spare funds I'd suggest investing in a pro controller, but only if you're going to use it often.

Once you unlock all 3 weapons and at least 3 legions, and Chain link attacks. It becomes really fun and hectic. You also have to remember all the motions for every beast. Remember what combo, at what timing activate links. Dodging is super fucking Vital etc etc.

finished up to chapter 8, here are some complaints

>FPS constantly drops, it only really maintains 30 when there are only a couple enemies on screen and nothing is going on in the background, drops to what feels like 20 during really action heavy parts with lots of effects. at least 90% of chapter 7 felt like it was chugging
>camera is really, really bad in smaller areas, like in sekiro you can't see a thing if you're up against a wall
>astral plane sections feel drawn out and the platforming is spotty, would have preferred if they were just straightforward combat sections
>on that note the cop sections are all boring as fuck, nier got away with it because it had better writing but it's nothing special here
>silent MC is retarded
>combat is fun when it opens up but the lack of options on the MC is still disappointing and the chain itself is really underused

i still think the game is fun and when it steps on the gas the bombastic parts are fucking amazing but it has too many things i don't care for to put it with platinum's better works or other games in the genre

BOTW only got its dick sucked so much because it was the only AAA open world game since those became the norm that actually took full advantage of the open world and used it well (movment options that make you look at the enviroment for faster ways to traverse like fire+grass updraft, mixed with the climbing and shit and on top of that letting you do the final boss whenever you feel like it

it has nothing on older games that followed the same ideas of player freedom but in comparison to modern open world games its one of the few that actually used its sandbox well so everyone freaked out due to how shit modern open world games are

It plays nothing like Rogue Galaxy, and that's a good thing. RG was pure jank, and shallow as fuck. All battles boiled down to skipping the FMV's of AoE spells. This game plays more like Spectrobes on the Wii, except with way more tools.
