Because it's meant to protect a human sized area with empty space around it. The random encounter with broken sentry bot says that you can't make use of its shield, but you can take the high frequency emitter with you.

canon way is detection, AOE, health items that heal more than 80, and items/abilities that make you immune to stun

Chokepoints, traps, flares, psychokinesis. The main idea is not to go chasing them around, but let them reveal themselves on your traps.

if you have good stealth and good detection, you can detect them without much trouble, but you absolutely must be in stealth and above their auto-detect threshold

You don't.
The real problem with crawlers, outside of their bullshit detection where they can somehow smell you from ten miles away and you can't see them standing next to you, is that 90% of the Crawler situations are monster closets or chokepoints where you don't have enough space or time to apply any sort of defensive tactic unless you dedicate yourself body and soul to counter crawlers, which is a waste of time since most of the time they are nothing but a nuisance that doesn't yield anything special.

My advice is getting a regenerative vest, opportunist so you can oneshot them with an aimed shot after the CC of your choice, barricading behind a forcefield until theycome near you and a generous and healthy dose of F9.
Bear in mind that in some cases, crawlers can be effectively cheesed by infighting too, as there might be other monsters/NPCs that will fight them for you, three cases that come to mind are the crawler on the way to the rathound king, which is almost always zerg rushed by packs of alpha rathounds, the two crawlers in the base near Rail Crossing, which can be demolished by plasma bots and the crawlers in the underground section of the praetorian warehouse in Core City, where you just throw a grenade and have a very eager Praetorian tin can deal with them for you.

what's the point of high technicalities when perception increases damage more per point?

Sprint, temporal, run around the nearest corner and throw a flare at your feet and wait, if they aren't there, they'll usually come to you, forcefield or stasis if you're about to get stunned

I find it hard to decide between Tesla Armor and infused expansion leathers. While something like Sea Wyrm gets higher resistances with proper padding and kevlar, it's heavyweight as fuck going up to 65% while Tesla has mere 40% penalty. Other medium weight leathers with padding and kevlar seem to get about on par resistances with Tesla for similar armor penalty. Tesla's unique effect is also nice bonus to my melee char.

Holy shit these tunnels are bigger than I thought. Blew up some fucking rocks for the first time, somehow ended up back at the GMS Compound from way earlier; going through caves with pigs and shit to get there.
Then I blew another rock, ended up in a bunch of crawler and lunatic kind of guys, only to come out near Railroad Crossing. Sometimes I do wish for some sort of teleport back to a base, it's endless screens of nothing to get back, if you actually venture out there.

Smgs, grenades and, traps could help you

You can tell him to fuck off with enough Intimidate.
You only need to power up 3 stations, so his is not necessary.
You can deal with him and his pets easily enough by starting the combat yourself and tossing a molotov.

Regenerative vest effect is incredibly powerful, it'd say that by itself makes the tesla armor obsolete

The rocks are there to prevent you from roaming the world at the beggining. Once you get TNT/Jackhammer the entire world map opens to you. If you can survive it, that is.
And you can take the train from railroad back to SGS.

I personally don't see the big deal about tac vests once you get a decent energy shield. Being nearly immune to non-crit small arms fire isn't that big a deal since that's not the physical attacks that kills you. Crits, snipers, and low speed non-firearm based attacks are.

They are constantly red during combat, and i cant seem to use them. Pretty much all throwing items except for flares are like this.

Yeah, it's worth doing it for early.The crossbow sells for good and the place has some loot for you to start with.

There really should be a way to order guaranteed high level custom-made parts. Maybe have it be a Mercantile check and take tons of money like Super Steel. Blaine supposedly does special orders so the game world even has precedence for people ordering hard to get stuff.

That was me. Yeah, I restarted because I took 3 AGI and it was just annoying to play. If I had sprint I'd probably have kept playing it, but then I'd probably have to lower my Perception a lot.

I got to level 15, managed to kill the Iron Head gang and such so the build was decently effective on Hard, but just a slog to play. I also was Combat Shotgun focused with Suppressive Fire, Opportunist, and Full Auto. Having to carry around 100+ shells and full metal armor sucked.

I was playing roughly the same build and left it for later because I noticed that my hornet was dealing way more damage per AP than the combat shotgun with all feats. I'm not touching shotguns again unless they're buffed.

I quickly got annoyed with my AR run, you pretty much have to burst because it's the only thing actually doing anything. So you reload every other turn and you never have enough ammo.

So? How often do you actually have the luxury of spending all your AP on a burst? More importantly, how often would two shots of a Vindicator kill the enemy just as easily as a burst, while also leaving you with 10 extra AP?
I'm on my first playthrough, on Hard, and maybe there's just more demand for bursting on Dominating, but the only enemy that makes me wish I could burst are Nagas. It'd just be a needless overkill and a waste of AP for everything else I've seen so far.

there is literally specialized build for punch wizard. things to look for, dex for ap cost reduction for fists, will for psi synergy (7 will if you want to grab bilocation too), 5 int at least for expose weakness, strength for physical damage portion of the fist damage but you can rely on the psi damage of your fist attacks instead. Use the wiki character builder to draft a build.

You can do a bunch of things to earn yourself a place in the expedition. Carnifex is one of them.

You need to do the math because there is a lot of things you can do with unarmed. With more AP you can get off more combo hits, or you can use heavy punch on your combo hits for a big damage spike, or punch with fists then switch to the Power Glove on your combo it. It can lead to bigger damage if you're mix maxing with using heavy punches, or weapon swaps, or abusing combo.

Pirates will give you the feats for improved naval combat and melee naval combat but you will have to fight on jet ski if you do their quests
Aegis has better merchants if youre not into drugs and they can decrypt some lore you find in ruins, but you have to fight the native invasions as a melee dude

pure psi likes to pick out the good skills from each tree cause if you have the stats for one of them, you have the stats for all of them. pick up force field and maybe telekinetic punch from psychokinesis tree, then focus on either metathermics or thought control or both, then excess points can go into temporal manipulation as it is a very good supportive tree of skills for most builds. you only need 25 points into psychokinesis and you get bonus synergy points in that if you pump your other stats so you can get your psychokinesis to 25 purely with skill synergy, but im not sure if the learning requirements look at total synergy or base skill points.

anyone thinking of using shotguns, its ok tier at most as its feats have very little impact. its nice when you finally get to situations where it shines as it crowd controls really well but you need ways to restrict enemy movements or have good movement yourself to get value from it. Ive been using caltrops, incendiary grenades, and gas grenades to try to funnel enemies together, but the enemy movement ai is hard to predict so usually im just shooting at them individually rather than into a crowd

Doing a Throwing Knife/Grenade run and took the Grenadier feat at Lvl8. Is Three Pointer worth taking at Lvl10 or should I wait til Throwing is skilled up more for the extra crit chance and take Fatal Throw instead?

id say fatal throw is more consistent and reliable. three-pointer is only like 10% chance to crit at low levels and grenades wont be your main source of damage if you are going knives as well

It's great for instantly deleting an enemy, I would definitely use it in a knife/stealth build.

They can work by themselves, but they need almost no feats so you might as well do something else

Bilocation is not as effective because, if the mob if big enough and if they are all bunched together, the enemies inside the mob cannot be reached by the MYSTERY NIGGAS, and if a MYSTERY NIGGA that has targeted an enemy on the outside layers of the mob is behind a MYSTERY NIGGA, blocking it's way, then it wont be able to attack.

Bilocation is best used to single out bosses, with mental break down, force field then Bilocate
LoC and Enrage is for mob control

very few enemies resist acid so have fun consistently dealing 200+ damage and nailing them to the ground with entanglement

i hate how theres so many ways the enemy can fuck you over cause a ton of strong abilities are amazing single target moves, but then you get the same skills and it fucking sucks cause you are vs 50 guys that can snipe you on top of that

you really only have trouble with mutants with acid, and mutants become chumps the moment you clear depot A

How the hell are you supposed to deal with enemy Nagas as a sword user? They have 1000 HP, ridiculously high mechanical resistance so normal hits don't do anything while even crits with 425% bonus do mere chip DMG, and apparently enough electricity and energy resistance to ignore both electroshock and energy edge emitters entirely.

Say what you want about shotguns but at least they could consistently nuke these fuckers with tungsten rounds.

yeah, you should never be getting hit by grenades as psi so blast is useless and you have exothermic aura for fire immunity, there is also very few enemies that should ever be able to hit you with fire damage so its not worth it anyway

It could be limited to only being able to move points from combat skill to combat skill and change a combat feat to a different combat feat. Maybe move attribute points too, being unable to substract from Int or to go lower than feat requirements. That's how I would make the mod work in a non-scummy mode.

It's not even about cost-effectiveness, but effectiveness of the gear in general. The stuff you can craft far surpasses the junk you can buy.
As for when, well... you'll always be finding materials while exploring, so you'll always have an option to make something from them. You'll eventually figure out what to look out for when trading too.

Yes for almost all the time.
Crafting will be always net you good shit but usually takes a little while to get online, at the start of the game you will be relying on looted items and any decent items you can buy, but then you will need to craft your shit yourself.

However, crafting early game will give you something precious, supplies and weapons.
Being able to craft yourself 25 molotovs is a gift from God

If you're in the intro still, before depot A, you're better off staying highly mobile because you wont find any metal armor drop just yet.
I suggest you to kill some cave hoppers and craft yourself cave hopper leather armor and boots, so you can be highly mobile and avoid bad situations. If possible use aluminized leather thingy on your gear, it will make you resistant to fire.

Molotovs, or how we like to call it here, 'Mollies' are your best friends, incendiary grenades will remain useful through all the game, always have them at hand.

Forgot to mention, to craft things, you first need to buy/find a 'blueprint', it looks like an USB drive, once it's in your inventory, right click it, you will download the crafting blueprint to your wrispad, you will be able to craft the item you just download the blueprint for.

Molotovs fall under the category of 'Incendiary grenades', I believe Quinton in SGS Agronomy and Pens floor have that blueprint, you can purchase it from him.
Molotovs requires:
20 chemistry skills and 10 tailoring skills

You will need bottles, dirty rags and gasoline.

You can easily obtaining dirty rags by recycling leather items, download the blueprint from the mechanics dude in SGS and recycle low tier/trash items that are not worth selling, you will get leather, or mechanics, or electronics scraps. By recyclying leather items, you will also get dirty rags, which you can use to craft Mollies.

Also download the 'Repair kit' blueprint from the same dude, with certain scrap types, you will be able to craft repair kits which you can use to repair your equipment and repair damaged loot, durability governs how the item sells, the more damaged it is, for less coins it will sell, so keep your loot on top shape before selling

You can craft rathound leather into rathound leather armor, then recycle them for free dirty rags
