Actually neither did I and I finished every other MGS game, even 4. The thing that ruins it is the awful camera combined with the environment. MGS1 was fine because it was based on MG2 gameplay, which is basically played entirely using the soliton radar. All the vision cones are well-represented and nothing really catches you off guard if you use the radar. MGS2 dropped the ball by having guards with astronomical vision cones that would spin around and spot you from off the radar, forcing you to play an extremely tedious game where you have to hug each corner to make sure you don't instantly get spotted by someone you can't see. Hilariously enough I greatly enjoyed the VR missions because they had much fewer corridors where this was a major issue.
