>Sega announced that Yakuza 7 will have turn-based combat to follow it's protagonist's love of Dragon Quest.
You hear that sound? Do you? It's the sound of this franchise in it's DEATH THROES

You hear that sound? Do you? It's the sound of this franchise in it's DEATH THROES
I love how they came so so close to finally having a good combat system in Judgement Eyes, then pull this shit
fuck you sega
youtube.com
oh dear lord it's real wtf?
turn based combat is shit and lazy as fuck, they just killed this series now
Thank god Kiryu died before witnessing this
Thanks for the spoiler faggot.
Lol
he didnt die
Well shitposted user
Turn based wins again. Now I can finally play this series
The idea's cool, it just looks painfully slow.
>Turn based wins again.
Looks like it's time to move on to FF series now, least SE knows turn based is shit
>let's be like dragon quest, a game series that survives in japan purely because of nostalgia, and fails everywhere else because it's judged on its own (lacking) merits
It will obviously just be some sort of side content, like clan battles or something
what confuses me is that they never uploaded their own official gameplay trailer to go along with the news of the shift in genre.
ideally since the series is taking such a drastic shift, you'd want to do that.
makes me wonder if they're actually retarded, or they've got something else going on.
This franchise has always been dogshit. Muh Japan tho!
Just visit Japan once, you'll never need to play a yakuza game again
No, it's the main game, the combat is turned based
japanese are hating it
I'm just baffled. I don't hate the idea, and actually think that this can be pretty cool, but it feels like such a weird thing to go for.
Conventionally this is something you'd wanna keep in a spin-off, or in a side-game mode. Not as the thing for the new mainline game.
The series is absolutely known for beat-em-up gameplay, and they just finished developing a new system in Yakuza 6. And they got to use that in what, three games, with Judgement being arguably the one that nailed it?
What the fuck are they thinking?
>Just visit Japan once, you'll never need to play a yakuza game again
But visiting Japan won't let me join and have crazy adventures in the underground world of the japanese mafia
also I think foreigners aren't allowed at hostess clubs and good fucking luck getting sexy japanese women as a non japanese
>turn-based JRPG with adults instead of high school bullshit and kawaii uguu generic anime designs
Fucking based
>a game series that survives in japan purely because of nostalgia
If that was true 6 and 7 would have sold better and Ys wouldn't struggle for relevancy. DQ sells because it's a big brand that produces good games. Fans talk about various entries, not just [thing from when I was a kid], etc. The closest it gets is jerking off 3.
based retard
They already said they're going to make more Judgment games
newfag, stop posting and continue playing yakuza
They're thinking: "we already said to the gaijin media that we would like to make more Judgment games, calm the fuck down"
gamerevolution.com
yeah but I want judgement combat in a real yakuza game, judgement is just sleeping dogs in japan instead of china
Judgment may as well be a real Yakuza game. Yagami was even raised by yakuza but doesn't affiliate himself with them as a member, not very far from Kazuma
this.
judgment should've been the game to do this, not a mainline yakuza entry.
and another, more explicit source:
What the fuck are they thinking with Yakuza combat, though? That's what I'm thinking.
Is it bad if I want to play it
Told you fags Sleeping Dogs was the better game
Believe me now?
he didn't.
I'm fine with this
This is the kind of weird I like, and Japan has shit taste anyway so of course they'd hate it
they probably want to try something different since this is a different character with a different story. they already said they'd go back to the old style if it doesn't work out this time, and it's not that risky a move when they already said they'd make another Judgment-esque game (which will probably be out a year from Y7).
Sleeping Dogs is one game, Yakuza is a series. I admit that it's better than some of games in series, but not all of them.
i respect the work you do
I like both. But I prefer, say, Yakuza 5 to Sleeping Dogs. It's a shame we'll probably never see a Sleeping Dogs 2 that expands on everything.
Are you sure the turnbased combat won't just be some gimmicky minigame like gang wars in Yakuza 6? If find it hard to believe that the entire game will be nothing but turn based
So realistically, I'm supposed to wait for all the remasters, right? Or just play Kiwami?
that's what they're saying, but they haven't shown any sort of gameplay officially for some reason, which is baffling.
good taste in games blacky
Pottery.
>all of the contrarians coming out of the woodwork to say that the combat system was shit all along and its a good thing they're changing it to a slow, boring, turn-based system.
Gotta love Yea Forums. If the gameplay was so "shit" then how come you dealt with it for 8+ games?
>inb4thestoryisgoodlmao!
The story hasn't been "good" since 2, anf if you're so invested over the story, why slog through literal dozens of hours of "shit gameplay" for something you can experience on YouTube?
>autistic DQ loving yakuza goes through his daily life pretending he is in a DQ game
this sounds based
NOOOOOOO you're not supposed to like this change
>they already said they'd go back to the old style if it doesn't work out this time
So what will you do if it sells a lot and they decide to keep Yakuza as a turn-based series? They only stated this because even if Sega is ran by retards, even they know this is a controversial decision.
the combat was always trash in these games compared to action games like dmc and ninja gaiden, so why not change it? no one played these for the gameplay, they played them for the STORY
wash your bedsheets
Eh I trust the devs. They haven't made a bad game yet.
So how come everyone else pretends as well?
>gets shot at point blank range
>doesn't die because in JRPGs guns are just equips that increase HP damage
Checks out
its part of his delusion, everything is actually happening normally but the MC is reading menu prompts out loud and doing the sound effects. No one speaks up because the MC is a badass who gets shit done.
It becomes one big LARP
the power of dragon autism
It depends on if I enjoy this game or not. I like turn-based RPGs so I'm willing to give it a shot. If they stick with it, then I will keep playing the Judgment-esque games with the action gameplay, and continue playing the turn-based ones as well.
Is Dead Souls not a game
As a RGG 1, BP and Kenzan boomer, I think I this series has been pretty fucked ever since the PC ports and Dragon Engine, but this shit is the icing on the cake, what an embarassment.
>Kenzan
Dead Souls was flawed, but I found it enjoyable. It did suck that we didn't get 5 for so long, so it felt like Dead Souls killed the series in the west but on its own merits, for an experimental fanservice, I found it enjoyable. Particularly playing as Ryuji.
I want this game to succeed because "real life" RPGs are my drug and maybe we'll get more adult protags instead of teenage twinks
They couldn't keep churning out the same shit every time.
I don't see this as a good idea, but I'm fine with them not giving me yet another game with the same formula.
He's dead, now stop fucking browsing threads for series you care about spoilers for you dumb fuck.
One of my favorite things about Yakuza is it's full of middle-aged Japanese dudes, A.K.A. the people who make most video games and yet are in almost none of them.
Ive played about all the Yakuza mainline games except for the Samurai spinoffs and psp games.
Ive yet to play Judgement, does it improve the combat in any significant way from Y1-6 ?
You don't lose meter when you get hit
Rest in Peace Itchybum Kusoge.
We hardly knew you
DQ11 had:
-boring, predictable story.
-boring combat outside of bosses
I’ll admit it has a decent art style but is that it?
> no dead souls
> no kazan
> no isshin
> no lost paradise
Enemies don't block and interrupt your combo as much, Yagami's fighting style feels more nimble than Kiryu's in K2 or 6, and a simple punch won't send an enemy flying fifty feet so you can pull off combos. Certain enemies and bosses have a "mortal wound" system where if you get hit by one of their attacks, it lowers your health permanently until you use a medkit or go to the doctor in the sewer (these attacks are pretty easy to avoid but sometimes you're going to get hit anyway). More challenging than the rest of the games. Overall, I'd say Judgment has the best combat outside of Yakuza 5, 0 or Kiwami
>turn based JRPG
>no magical bullshit
>just dudes beating the shit out of each other
>party is a slightly overweight dude, some kind of hobo and a lady in smart business attire
>just beating gangster ass in a back alley
I’ve wanted something like this for a long time. Fuck all the hate. The Yakuza series is great but there’s no reason they can’t try new shit. It’s a whole new protagonist anyway.
The US version will have normal fighting turn based will be just an option its a stupid publicity stunt that will backfire
GET THE YAKUZA GUYS TO MAKE A DEVIL SUMMONER GAME
have you actually played the game? he faked his death
>sells alright in japan but sells like shit in the west
>OOHHH I GUESS BAKA GAIJIN DON'T WANT MORE YAKUZA GAMES, WE DON'T MAKE MORE YAKUZA ENGRISH VERSION
>simplistic menu-based combat
Of all the turn-based combat systems they could have used, why this one?
>Thank god Kiryu died before witnessing this
Yes, because the combat in prior Yakuza games was so stellar.
Fuck action fags that's what i think.
why didn't they just make it into a spin off instead of a mainline game to see if people like it? and no I mean a proper spin off not a mobile game.
It's not DMC or anything, but it was pretty satisfying. Most action games make you use a weapon, and for me, it feels much better to take a bunch of guys on with just my fists and whatever's lying on the ground. And 0 did a good job of delivering that feeling.
My one complaint is Legendary always being locked behind New Game +, just let us skip the boring, easy modes already

It did? Because the combat is just as braindead as something like Assassin's Creed, with the enemies patiently waiting their turn while you pound on a single enemy.
I don't completely disagree, but it plays way better than any Ass Creed game. I think the mooks should put up more of a challenge, but the difficult is upped quite a bit in the Climax Battles. Aside from that, the times when you're going through a gauntlet of enemies on Legendary without using healing items, or, again, the Climax Battles gives a decent challenge.
I've been playing Yakuza since you've been in diapers, child
