The story my friends and I came up with back in the tekken 3 days is that he was training in the jungle and got attacked by a cheetah (or whatever animal that is) and it ripped his face off, so in a fit of rage he ripped the cheetah's face off to replace his lost face and left the jungle. Even beyond the aesthetics, Tekken 4 was just creative as fuck. I know the keyboard pros will whine and moan about this, but I want them to give those stage styles another shot. I loved the idea of these fights taking place in areas that resembled reality and not just some perfect flat void, it really added to the gritty street-fight feel. Tekken 4 suffered because it did too much too quickly, so those stages were more broken than they would be in a game with, say, Tekken 7's physics. Worst case scenario, they could just have the option for players to disable stages with obstacles and elevation changes.
Also, Lee as my first male vidya crush. The perfect blend of pretty boy and manly chad energy.

Paul was originally the strongest character in the series outside the Mishimas, and they even kept that up in the air since they never had them fight. And by Tekken 4 Paul is actually the canonical winner of Tekken 3. Pauls Tekken 4 ending was kino, as well, and the last time he was the character he was supposed to be. Then Tekken 5 came and turned him and Law into complete jokes. Tekkens lore more or less died after 4 in a number of ways.

Tekken 4 aesthetically rocks, I love how cold and sterile the menu and roster select is, the soundtrack is amazing and they took chances with character outfits (some worked some didn't). Steve was awesome, Marduk was eh and Christie can fuck off.

Tekken 7 is huge in Korea, the biggest country of PC gamers. There's a lot of very talented Tekken 7 players in Korea. To play against them, people in Asia play on PC. It also helps that arcade has fallen behind on the home releases.
Tekken 7 is almost always on sale on PC (though not as much the individual season passes).
These things compound and people hear about how there's a lot of players on PC.
That said I run into much better players on PS4 in my area. It's also the only accepted version for both offline and online TWT events.
