they requiere less effort, less budget and if not f2p, you can always add microtransactions or lootboxes

If you want to know what's ACTUALLY dead, it's the dedicated handheld game console. Even the 3DS, which was basically the entire handheld game market pre-Switch, only sold 75,000,000. That's nothing to scoff at on its own, but in the context of the generation before that having the DS (150,000,000) and PSP (80,000,000), thus collectively being three times the total sales, it shows an EXTREME contraction of the market and the reasoning why is obvious.
