Let's start by talking about Chie Satonaka. When Persona 4 first released, Chie was beloved because she evoked nostalgic feelings of the girl-next-door while also being a cute tomboy you could bro-out with. For years you couldn't browse the catalog without bumping into a persona thread with Chie on the OP. It wasn't until the golden re-release, and spinoffs that Chie saw a massive decline in popularity, in favor of Naoto.

The first, most obvious change that sparked this decrease in Chie's popularity was the changing of her voice actress. Unlike other characters who had their VA swapped, Chie also had her voice direction completely altered... And for the worst. Vanilla Chie, voiced by Tracey Rooney was sometimes dubbed "granny Chie." She was by no means perfect. Some believed her voice was too deep for a school girl, and Rooney also had extraordinarily awkward line delivery at times. (eg AHA is this our chance?) Despite this, Rooney was able to sell a character that was sweet and sincere. Chie from Golden onwards was voiced by Erin Fitzgerald, who took Chie more into a more generic "anime" direction. Her voice was irritatingly high pitched, and Fitzgerald has a tendency to scream all of her lines. This version of Chie seemed less intelligent and ill-willed in her interactions, especially withcmale party members.
Despite the dialogue being mostly the same, Chie felt like a completely different character.

Perhaps it was a cruel joke on Atlus's part, perhaps it was pure spite:
In Persona 4 Arena (BBCTAG by extension) and Persona Q, which are crossovers with Persona 3, Chie would spend both games lusting after Akihiko. She would praise his fighting prowess, his rock hard muscles, and even went as far as to immediately refer to him as "master." What's worse is that she is unquestionably subservient to him, even taking priority over you, the player character. When she isn't lusting over Akihiko, Chie is in the pursuit of food, specifically red meat. Though it can be just seen as "done for humor" a lot of Chie's "meat dialogue" comes off as innuendo that would suggest she's hungry for cock. Whether or not you take the innuendo at face value, Chie is still at this point in time a perfect mirror of the modern slut. Always rushing to please her most urgent carnal desire.

Rooney was offered the role back and she declined. She admits she's not that great at voice work because she's a limited live-action character actor who's best in a specific niche and Chie simply does not fit that niche. The problem was casting Rooney for 4 in the first place, because it led segments of the fanbase to think that Chie was a type of character she was never supposed to be. In Chie's case, the changes in voice direction were to better fit what the original idea was that Japan had in mind.
This of course in no way absolves the god-awful writing in Arena and Q, but it's equal opportunity awfulness for every character, not Chie specifically. Chie in the anime and Golden was better than vanilla 4, and people shouldn't be poisoned by what the spinoffs did.

Typically women only wear oversized sweaters that they acquire from another source. Hand-me-downs from older siblings, or parents are one example. The problem is that Chie was never shown to be poor, nor does she ever refer to an older brother or sister. All we can do is speculate based on what we DO know about Chie.

In her very social link in the base game, Chie is shown to have been in a relationship with another boy in middle school. This alone is no big deal. Middle school "relationships" aren't intimate or sexual. What IS suspect is that he's still contacting Chie years later, freshly asshurt, trying to disturb her most recent relationship. Itnis also implied that Chie is remorseful about the ending of that relationship.
