The "skill tree" is probably the lamest thing in the fucking game, nothing but +X% shit. The enemy variety is way too low, although this has been a remedy problem since forever. The morphing gun is cool, but what's the point when the starting configuration is the best and the fucking materials for new modes take forever to gather. The supernatural powers are all kind of lame just like the time powers were lame in quantum break(generic shit with a time prefix).

It does look good and I'm getting OK fps with no crashes yes. The story is a blatant ripoff of SCP, not that there's anything wrong with it, but it's nothing revolutionary. Like OP said, 6,5/10 and an additional point if you're an SCP fag is more than fair.

Anyone else realize that the gimmick of "you can grab anything" actually doesn't matter at all? All the objects you throw nearly all act the same and even if there wasn't anything to grab, she'll just grab shit from the ground to make a rock further highlighting just how inconsequential the system is.

this game has surprised me in different ways. i think the concept they're going after is really cool. it's flawed though and is way too short. 4 years of development only to get a 10 hour campaign is a bit shit but they've put a hell of a lot of detail into the the world even if it is really small and confined to one building.

also one thing that shocked me was how it loads so quick. like it literally takes 10 seconds to fast travel even on a basic hard drive. also there's that recurring scene where you hit the light switch 3 times and it teleports you to a whole different location with no loading screens at all. either they're fucking tech magicians or this whole marketing wave sony have been going on recently and their SSD no loading screens is just bullshit and we can already do that. they're probably using it as an excuse to sell another $600 console.

Wanted to play it for the combat but it sucks. The story is more interesting but I'm not playing a game where I have to stop to watch little videos or read a billion office notes where maybe one in ten give important clues instead of just being witty or repeating something I already know. i have a 1070 and it hits 80C max and i average around 60 fps ultra. that's a problem with your PC not the game.

Games should really try to use this first person narrative style more. They're always trying to be movies so they don't use it a lot but when you're playing a game you're inhabiting the role of a character so an inner monologue makes a lot more sense.

Turn down the resolution. I get a massive performance boost by just playing at 900p. Pretty much locked 60fps on a 1060, with some medium settings thrown in (max reflections though)

I think that hiss problem remains is just a pretext for post game clean up and side quests.

The best part about the original SCP game how it would just completely blind side you and literally take you to another dimension if you fucked up or took a wrong turn. Or how utterly relentless it would get later on as all these weirdos stacked on top of each other strangling every inch of movement you can do. How there would just be dead ends that just completely fuck you like the skull or the bell and even completely innocuous shit like the peripheral lizard. Playing that shit blind was equal parts frustrating as it was utterly brilliant as you discovered all the SCPs in the game.

MSAA gives you less grainy hair because they use alpha to coverage. It also improves geometry aliasing and things like fences and grates a lot. 2x MSAA is worth it for the very small performance penalty and nice image quality boost.

Polaris is pretty nice, though.

Just reached the "subway station" , im assuming im about 80% or so deep into the game and just found a "secret room" that gave me 1 ability point and a collectible file.

This is at native resolution with 2xMSAA. It's a very standard TAA resolve. If anything it should be a little blurrier to properly suppress aliasing. They also bias the texture LOD too much so it sparkles a bit in motion.

When manifesting powers, especially holding an object to be launched or hovering, a field of force is projected around the character which can lift/push small objects, with hover providing a slightly larger and stronger field, however there are things which are not influenced by this field of force, namely Health Elements and Pickups. They are not influenced at all by this force.

The force around an Astral Spike CAN lift Health Elements and Pickups into the air, Elements tending to float in place while pickup items bounce around more like the rest of the rubble it has collected.

I just finished the game and did a shit ton of side quests, but I never got the parts I needed to make Charge. In the end I even went to do 5 additional side quests hoping to get the parts, still did not get them. It was some kind of grenade gun?

Mostly some of the locations have a very Dead Space type of aesthetic/vibe. Both the fridge boss and the mold boss are kinda similar to some dead spaces bosses. The way the guns move when you switch and aim them. The levitation feels a bit similar to deadspace 2 zero- g. Picking up stuff from the environment and throwing it, has been done before but is a bit similar to the way deadspace does it. I'm surprised they didn't utilize the telekinesis more for puzzles and interacting with the environment like deadspace.

I found one at the transit corridor north next to the stairs that lead to the plane wreck on your way to the ordinary awe. Its a wall with a picture and theres a fence around the corner next to the stairs where you can see theres an accessible room.

This scene was really cool. Except for the fact that I somehow ended up in one spot that led to an endless pit and I died, during this atmospheric scene. Fucking hell Remedy, could have skipped that shit for this kind of areas. Ruined the immersion totally.

There are so many things this game lets you do... you can run past them, run back if you need to so they come one by one, as long as you keep moving they cannot hit you for shit...

That reminds me: one of the most disgusting things in this game was thoe huge yellow announcements about the random missions. During the most pivotal moment in the main quest, for example, I got that obnoxious announcement on my screen. They should definitely not be on during the main story stuff.

This game trying to be old school shooter while still using nu-shooter mechanic.
Multiple grunt doing GL spasm on open area I can get by to it, but a fucking single line corridor is retarded.
What make me frustrated is that because i was near a control point I can just keep healing myself and I did that.
The shielded grunts keep going back and forth on that corridor while the stupid small grunt keep shooting homing grenade on me whenever I showed up myself. making it impossible for me to moved forward.
Then out of frustration I tried to brute force my self with the evade dash, and that the thing that killed me and failled the mission.
Died rushing into never ending grenade spasm.

Honestly I really fucking bored of this shit. It's everywhere. It's in every fucking sci fi now, everything is a fucking floating geometric shape wannabe 2001.

Other than picking up cube shaped batteries and plugging them in (which deadspace also did) I can't remember any other puzzles that made use of launch. Maybe the luck puzzle cause you have to move the fish. Launch is pretty much required for some bosses. I don't know I just get a very strong dead space vibe from some of the gameplay and some of the locations.

I just completed one of Ahti's side missions; Cleaning the Mold from medical, and when I destroyed the last mold it said it was complete, removed itself from my missions list and... that was it. No reward, no payment, no "go see Ahti" who gives me nothing when I do.
I just got nothing at all.

Like the Board, Polaris is opposed to the Hiss in defence of humanity and was guiding Jesse to the FBC in order to combat it and prevent it from breaching the lockdoen and consuming reality. Following the destruction of Hedron, Jesse is seemingly the core vessel of Polaris' resonance.

The HRAs seemingly channel its resonance to block out that of the Hiss.

The Hedron/Polaris stuff confuses me.
So Hedron and Polaris both come from the same place, right?
Polaris has powers but for some reason those powers have to be channeled through Hedron, a completely different entity? And somehow that is how the HRAs work but Polaris didn't know that or couldn't be arsed to signal some significance about it all?
And now Hedron is dead, so Polaris can't channel her powers through it but....that changes nothing at all? So...

I feel like i'm missing a piece of the puzzle here.

Nobody knows where Hedron came from, but its seemingly 'natural' wherever it came from. As for Polaris, it 'communicates' to Jesse in the endgame, using her form to do so. Its basically a part of her now, using her as a receptacle in the same way that it used Hedron.

It's up for debate if Polaris and Hedron are separate entities engaging in symbiosis, or if one was just an expression of the other.

From Wiki: "The Hedron is an extradimensional being originating from Slidescape-36 which acted as a conduit of Polaris's resonance."

I for one do not understand why they would want to complicate things unnecessarily by having that "entity" be the middle man between Jesse and Polaris. Does it make any sense? Why couldn't the story just be that Polaris was communicating with Jesse? We learn of Hedron and then it is destroyed within moments. Seems like really shoddy writing to me.

Basically, they know that the Director is chosen by The Board, through the gun. Anyone who picks up the gun and isn't the Director it is strongly implied they just fucking shoot themselves dead on the spot or at the very least can't use it.

So, because they know that, there's little point in questioning it, She has the gun, she can use the gun, the pictures in the house have changed to her. She's obviously the new Director now and the Board knows best.

The game really could have handled it better, it should have been JESSE's reaction to it being so nonchalant that addressed the players' feelings but no, they skipped that for some reason.
Jesse's reactions pissed me off multiple times actually, there's one point where she says "Even though this situation is hell, I like it, it feels right" and all I could think was "Holy shit lady, you've got one magic dimensional entity riding in your head protecting you, you've got a magic gun, you've got a host of magic abilities given to you, you've got The Board backing you, no wonder you're having a good time. Kids getting addicted to the Not-Mother's milk and turning into atrocities, all the adults and presumably her own parents up and flat out dying out of the blue, Dylan getting blackbagged, probably being shifted about from place to place snd being treated as absolutely insane for her convictions that strsnge shit happened, having Polaris guiding her, etc.

It's pretty clear that Jesse is entirely jaded and has more or less stopped giving a shit.

How is the sound design, is it good? Does the ambient sound add to the scary feeling?

I would say, playing the game on my PC, through two huge floor-standing performance speakers driven by a big old amp, that the sound design is completely spot-on, there are several locations where the sound really increases the tension and it is generally good throughout. Except for mission notifications, those spoil it.

Is Space Jump, Climb, Mantle, Hover or Slowfall? It's all of them! Hopping over a wall straight into slowfall instead of flight is such a great and cool way to die in a bottomless pit that you wanted to fly over, sure is a shame the game decided what I wanted to do was fucking kill myself.

The setting carries it, but if gameplay was 3/10 (i.e. really-really bad) you would've just drop the game.
Not in the mood to describe what I disagree on, but I think that 1 ammo pool makes for great, frantic fights that force you to think on your feet.
RPG and loot are the weakest part.

Sam stuff has always been hit and miss meh, but Max Payne corniness was nice, it didn't take itself serious. And the nightmare sequences really took you by surprise. It's not nostalgia I dont think he ever did something as cool as those pseudo lynch tv segments and overall max payne cheese.

this is what basically drove the game for me
the beginning was good and some ending sequences but it was kinda generic and meh for most of the middle
they should lean harder into 'scp' stuff and make it more weird with a sequel too bad remedy doesnt do sequels anymore

The Former fights are an absolute textbook example of poor design, you have to look UP to harm the enemy but you can't see the holes it makes then.
It's just another piece of evidence in my mind that the flight was, at some point in development, free form. Meaning that you could fly UP.
What we have now as soon as you misstep you just gently sink into the death pit, it isn't fun and it isn't engaging, it also isn't DIFFICULT, the boss is never going to kill anyone except by them accidentally stepping to their death. It's a mess to be honest.

Especially the flamingo phase, where every misstep death means you get to do the pink bird mash again.

This game for me was worse than quantum break, I went through that twice, this I wont be going through again the map just isnt enjoyable to explore and the gunplay is terrible.

At the same time, you also need to realize that being a Remedy game it'll have all the shortcomings their games have.

-I liked the fighting, gunplay and fucking with your force

-Character design is absolutely awful
-The writing goes from boring to absurd
-Worst level design I've seen in years
-Everything looks the same until the last 20 minutes, when they packed out the cool shit

Where you climb through the wall to go to the mold area you mention, instead of going that way, go back to the tracks and look up. There's an area up there and a door. That's where you go.
You can get there early with creative jump-dashing.

I'm a vet, and I always tell my clients to put screens on their windows to avoid having their cats run away. People usually think cats are smart and do well on the streets, but that's wrong.
