Looking in retrospect they honestly weren't very good. I think the only reason they succeeded in the first place was because there was very little competition for what they were doing. When streaming picked up and other YouTube LPers picked up who were funnier and better at games than them the audience moved on. They were also being carried really hard by the material. Like if you think of their most popular series it was almost all stuff with an interesting story like the silent hill games, other survival horror games or Nier.

I also think some of their decisions were stupid. Doing a fighting game every week got boring quick. They shouldn't have stopped doing brawls which were their most popular videos. They played way too few Nintendo games. They decided for some stupid fucking reason they had to finish every fucking series even when it dragged on 50 episodes too long.

Also I'll say there was no reason to add Liam. They seemed to add him to appeal to the anime audience but he actually watched less anime than the rest of them and had to awkwardly pretend to be a weeb. On one of the podcasts pat asked him what he was watching for the season and he had to come out and admit he doesn't really watch anime.

They were all like that. They all pretended to care about fighting games and JoJo when they didn't know shit about them. Honestly Matt was the worst, he didn't even like video games in general. C'mon, Woolie and Pat were clearly invested in fighting games way before the channel existed wasting precious time at college playing them.
It feels like a lot of people using this argument are mad that they weren't autismal lorelords of everything they enjoyed. Like how Woolie genuinely loved mecha, but really had a surface level knowledge of the phenomena. Or how Pat's brain gremlins kept him from not doing real deepdives into things like JoJo until the time was right. They still had a pure enthusiasm for the material and wanted to bring us along for the ride as they got more into it.
Even Matt had a genuine love for Godzilla and Suda51 amidst all his other fake bandwagon jumping.

They never claimed to be experts, they were just some schmucks who managed to not be infuriatingly awful to watch play while entertaining enough to do commentary.

I've tried to ignore Matt and Liam since they broke off, cause I find them disagreeable to obnoxious, but I still quite enjoy some Chewie and Fuckface as they were actual friends before the channel and have good chemistry. It's a shame they'll never return to do many full LPs again, but they've said themselves that the LP train had kinda run it's course for them after all these years. Many of Pat's streams are still enjoyable background noise for the second screen, especially with Paige around and vice versa. Not as huge of a fan of Woolie's streams, but I enjoy his produced videos on his channel cause he seems to actually put a lot of work into them and it shows.

I hate the way Matt narrates stuff now that he's solo and he's become even cringier as time has passed so I hate whenever YouTube recommends me his lazy "Wha happun!?" videos
