square enix are a bunch of pricks, and konami & capcom are unpredictable in terms of what they'll actually let people do. konami could remove them the next game or let them upgrade bomber to a full fighter and give them fucking pyramid head and i think capcom might just forget they own megaman altogether

"Everyone is here" was only possible because of so much being reused from 4, which actually used a lot from Brawl. Still the transition from 4 to Ult was probably easier than Brawl to 4. Hell characters still enter their Brawl idle animations from 10 years ago when grabbing items. The more they have to revamp, the less likely it is that everyone comes back.
It's really too bad so many people get so attached to the roster. I get it, and can't help feeling similarly myself but it's still disheartening that the developers are put in that position. I dread the MvCI level backlash when the next Smash needs to cut back a little in order to keep up with modern tech standards. I guess they'd be forced to do something mechanically to distract from the smaller roster. They could still probably hit 45-50 if they're still reusing a lot of assets. But that's bearing in mind that there'd be newcomers, which means a lot of cuts. I know there's a weird mentality around "cutfags" here but it's not like people want to see everything gutted. It's just interesting to think about the scenario.

Konami and Capcom will play ball if they see the money. Square might not be worth the trouble. Cloud is the only character I'm positive won't make it to the next game. Even Hero might make it in some form if Square wants to promote another DQ game with a new default skin.
