you can sneak up on the first one and after that reach the brides for a knife, really you can only get through it with maybe one straight up fight IF you have the knife. i fucking hated those worms, they even seem to run faster than humans.

Can I use places like cabinets in Lara's house to essentially store items for posterior use? Or will they de-spawn if I leave them there?

The one besides her is safe, one in the other room respawns its contents at day 4 i think, you will know when it does.

I used both 2 cabinets (the big and small 1) in the room I slept. Nothing ever disappeared from them. The kitchen cupboard respawns few times a game with food at days when Lara feeds you. I do not recommend putting your stuff there

The abbatoir episode in Pathologic 2 makes it clear that the angle of the steppen people in this game is essentially a paraphrase of the byblical "fall of man / fall from grace" myth through a different set of imagery. Man began distinguishing "I" from not "I" (ate from the Tree of Knowledge), man was denied Eden, that is, became mortal (evidenced by being affected by Plague). The player is basically then offered to pick his standing in relation to that paraphrased myth.

Doesn't that strike anyone as profoundly distasteful, pigheaded thing on the part of those who wrote the game?

I mean, whatever cultures were the steppen inhabitants modeled after, those prototypes SURE AS FUCKING HELL didn't fancy either Old Testament or Tanakh. Ascribing those biblical connotations onto cultures that have clearly nothing to do with them, is ignorant at best, malicious at worst. That's basically colonialist thinking, viewing natives as "us long ago", denying them authenticity, any right to have a genuine knowledge of anything colonialist doesn't already know, to have seen anything colonialist hasn't, devaluing culture to "v. 0.1 pre-alpha".

Moreover, Pathologic 2 DOES have those colonialist overtones, but they are presented as an OPPOSITION to steppen myths and traditions, despite the very fact that you are meant to recognize BIBLE of all things in those myths, being a particular OF THAT VERY SAME COLONIALIST PARADIGM. In other words, whatever side you pick, it's a fake choice since whatever the truth there was, has already been irrevocably distorted by the developers. It wasn't; the version you saw was just a sketch done for fun. They wrote to me later and asked if I could do something with it for a new dlc. The previous promo art (the one with three Tragedians) was done by a really top tier menkhu Maria Zolotukhina so it was a challenge to do something on a similar level.

Go to the Nutshell (the abandoned house where the kids hang out) and there is a doghead on your right when you walk in. I did it after the sidequest with Khan and Notkin in the plague house but you might be able to do it earlier.

Tell the kin they won't get either, then go to Big Vlad first, talk to him, then Clara, then Big Vlad again, and tell him where his son lives/spends his time. I went to Young Vlad after Clara and that was my mistake, that way Big Vlad ended up in the pit. As long as there is nobody in the pit but the marker changes to something about "patience", don't fight the odonghs and instead wait, more than a day even. The peaceful solution has to do with patience.

I think the game just wants you to have a kind of anti-completionist mindset i.e. accept that you can't do everything and just try your best to make it to the end without everything going wrong.

There is little gore in Pathologic. Game is more surreal and sad.

I think you get it after you give Lika the leash Notkin gives you and then check back again at their lair. He then accepts you into the gang and gives you the leash as a symbol.
I kept it till day 9, always in my inventory, because I thought it'd change something about the kids' interactions. Traded it in to save Notkin, I think that's fair.

Porting Marble Nest is probably a lot easier/faster than working on a whole new campaign. And if they're selling it to new buyers that's an additional source of income as well, which could help to fund development

I personally regard humans as animals that are lucky enough to have a different level of sentience to most other animals. Some concepts we are so proud about like tools, linguistic communication etc. can be seen in other species as well. How can we know that other animals don't think as we do as well? What defines humanity as humanity is the same similarity that defines cats as cats. Societies exist to manage huge numbers of humans and are a social concept, which arguably aren't just human concepts either. We aren't that special on the one hand but very special for what we have built and achieved, even if it might just be to make our lives easier. We're animals, but exceptional animals, is how I see it. But my exhaustion meter irl is almost full, sorry man, I'm not at my full level for proper discussion.

There generally are very few. Most illustrators I know have taken the bitter pill and do illustrated business reports now. Children's media is relatively easy to get into as well, really easy to publish children's books and what a lot of others tend to lean towards. Concept art I just often stumble over job openings for, but everybody expects 3+ years AAA experience, even mobile game shit. I'm still in uni though, between changing degrees, so I at least don't have to beat myself up too bad on barely having had any jobs so far.

I know by now it's basically a meme to blame Tinybuild for everything that happened to this game, but what DOES an indie publisher actually do?
They're not needed for distribution: there's no physical relelase of pathologic, and things like generating keys are handled by IPL.
They should probably be in charge of marketing and getting the game exposure; but we know that wasn't the case, and anyway Pathologic got attention purely through word of mouth.
The only thing I can think of is their presence at PAX the two last years. Can anybody have a booth there, or is it for industry insiders only?

I honestly don't care much about AAA at all and would just like a position where I can fully explore themes and atmospheres I'm actually interested in. I'm trying to develop independent projects in small teams of friends, comics and game stuff, while trying to get a foothold in academia to become a professor of media studies and further serious academic discussion on video games. I think if I end up in gaming it's bound to be an indie anyway because my strongest suit is probably pixel art, I'm pretty good at that.

First off, Pathologic 2 and Pathologic 1 are different games. Fall from Grace only appeared in P2, even Marble Nest lacked it. There is no reworked Bachelor's route as of now, therefore there is nothing to discuss. Second, if I imagine what said Bachelor's route might end up being, in my own personal way, I would say, that there is nothing stopping Bachelor from perfectly understanding Kin, other than the lack of time, while retaining "ah yes, just the sort of thing I have already heard about elsewhere" disposition. Bachelor simply has different priorities and chooses to act on them throughout the extremely limited time he has.

What I meant, is that the central myth you learn during the abbatoir episode is Fall from Grace with imagery switched for tribalistic one. My main gripe with this is that tribalistic imagery clearly had way more potential to it, than to illustrate something I already knew, that is, some quotes from Genesis. Moreover, Kin's mythology being essentially Genesis is, I think, extremely bad form on contemporary IPL's side, revealing them to be considerably more shallow than they try to seem.

However much was left at the cutting floor back in 2005, Kickstarter backers' expectations of Pathologic 2 were shaped by what was factually released, that is, first and foremost, by Bachelor's route. If IPL had no intention of fulfilling those expectations - which, by the way, Pathologic 2 so far doesn't fulfill, due to utter failure to replicate said Bachelor's route's standout pacing - they were basically playing bait-n-switch with their core audience.

What I am getting to, however, is that it is very weird to me to see outright Bachelor's dismissal here. SOMETHING in his route clearly worked just right, for the game in which it was main feature and singlehandedly formed main expectations of thereof, to be remembered and actively discussed 14 (13 for you) years later. I wonder, whether that would still be the case, if the original Pathologic had two routes only: Haruspex' and Changeling's. I personally highly doubt that. Frankly put, you have this round. I can't currently refute your defense of Kin's depiction in P2. I currently believe that, as per original Pathologic and, especially, original Marble Nest, Kin's imagery and mannerisms converged onto some distinctly different kind of point, not really compatible with Fall from Grace. That that imagery and mannerisms persisted into Pathologic 2. And that, being incompatible with Fall from Grace, Pathologic 2's depiction of Kin is self-contradictory, what you see tells a different story, than what is spoken to you. That the spoken story was added later, and profanates, by means of supplanting, the story inherent in Kin's depictions themselves.
In order to support (or disprove) that belief, I have to get to the bottom of what the original Kin's depiction was all about in terms of imagery, animations, etc.
The person primarily responsible for that part of Kin's design, that is of current interest to me, was, in my current opinion, Meethos. She also did all the on-the-wall-paintings in the original game, so that is at least something help me along the way. In other words, in order to have an argument, I have to see through the likely extent of influence of Meethos' designs upon the original game, as well as upon Marble Nest - to try to discern any patterns there, and to see, whether they will lead me anywhere. So far, however, I have essentially, nothing to argue with.

Frankly, I really, really, really don't want to. But I'll try the best I can.

Basically, the first time I sort of got Bachelor's route point was on the 8th day of my blind play through it. "Could the entirety of the Town be just a room inside the Polyhedron?" flashed in my mind. Four days late, enter children twist. Not quite, but close enough, even though immediately followed with theater twist. Not the point, anyway.

See, Bachelor's route made you distinctly aware the way you imagine the game to be being simply your personal current interpretation of it. By means of having been built in twist inside a twist inside a twist manner, with you being constantly bombarded with said twists, turning your worldview-related-to-game, gameview, dare I say, bottoms up, sideways, every which way. In other words, it made you aware what you think happens in the game is simply your current personal opinion, based upon your personal past.

The beauty of it, it wasn't simply "kino", it didn't gave you just STORY-related twists. It worked through gameplay as well. The pinnacle of that are two very specific ways to cheese the game, which I think are fully intentionally left there, the way to consistently get done with all not time-specific quests for the day by dawn - and the way to purge your own infection without shmouders or panaceas. Both could be deduced using subtle in-game hints, and both required you to change your current view of how the game is supposed to be played out in general.

In other words, you were subjected to the rug being pulled from under you, every time completely unexpectedly and in unforeseeable directions, with remarkable consistency and integrity to it, both from the story and the gameplay perspective.

That the game essentially took the place inside your head wasn't the point in itself though. It was further advanced in subsequent routes, but they simply didn't have sheer Bachelor's route quality - and grace - (cont)

As for the gist thing, it more or less directly follows from the setup I describe above. By constantly twisting your worldview, relating to the game, of what is possible in it and what is not, the game, this specific route, communicates this very act of twisting, of pulling the rug from under you, is THE thing about it. After which everything essentially falls into place in regard to this route, and further replays of the route change only details you happened to skim over or to misinterpret the first time around. Which, it falling into place, in turn, communicates, that you got the essence of what was meant to be communicated to you through the means of the entirety of the route, which essence being that this essence exists, is a thing as well. That the whole route was a message of sort, and "tl;dr-s exist" was it tl;dr it conveyed through demonstration.

iirc you get it bt stopping them from getting revenge on Lika. They will enteust you then to leash Lika, bring him back to the gang after leashing and they will accept you as part of the gang and give you the leash as reward.
