I don't get why devs can't balance slow characters. I mean, holy shit. Not only is he slow as fuck, but he has practically no fucking linking moves, and you need to get 3 goddamn taunts PER MATCH at the START OF THE MATCH to actually make him a threat at all. Not to mention the shit priority his moves have for some retarded reason. All he has is a shitty glitched standing from crouching animation that only literal gods with the reflexes of cats on speed can actually use effectively.

Even fucking Kuroda never won a proper tournament using him.

Kuroda is the literal GOD of third strike and is a beast with any character. That said, he's never won a proper tournament with him. No one has.

Q is not even his best character, he's just well known for him because he's the only fantastic player who bothers to play him.

One of the BEST things about Iori, about SNK in general really, is how they approached the general idea of characters.

You see, at that time all you had to learn about the characters you loved were mostly little bios and tids and bits of lore from the dialogue and magazines. Iori fighting style is "instinct"; on screen is quite violent, with (later on) slashes and such. What kind of music do you think they would use for him? Any western developer would have simply went and picked some trashy nu-metal track to appeal the teens fascinated with that idea on paper. What instrument would they give him? ... they picked the saxophone. His whole instinct motive is portrayed with jazz. Fucking masterclass of character design. SNK is forever.

I remember being jealous of Eternal Champions as a SNES kid. I'm sure you recall how huge graphically violent (for the era) 1v1 fighting games were at the time, and there was a massive advertising blitz for that game that made all the Genesisless kids pout.
I played it the other week via RetroArch and Christ is that game awful. Character design is pretty good though.
