Why are prosecutors always condescendant towards Phoenix even though they lose against him all the time ???

edgeworth and von karma are the only prosecutors in the series with an actual good court record. franny is 0-2, godot is 0-3, klavier is like 1-4 and blackquill is 0-4

but they should know by now that Phoenix is smarter than them, so why even bother going against him ?

To be fair the game's premise is that this is fast track court for the real court later. It clearly does not hold a particularly high bar for anything.

He can connect the dots between every piece of testimony and deduce the right culprit thanks to his thinking out of the box skills, he's the Sherlock Holmes of the courtroom

edgeworth is a brainlet who accuses innocent people without thinking, had it not been for Phoenix's superior intelligence the culprit would run free while the innocent party would rot in jail for a crime he didn't commit because edgeworth is too STUPID to solve the case

He literally solves two massive international incidents back-to-back and manages to pin down the most "perfect crime" in the entire franchise. Also, the reason he's nasty with Phoenix is because they're both fighting to establish the truth, and if he's holding back, he's not putting Phoenix into high gear.

Prosecutors holding back give us lukewarm adversaries like Klavier Gavin.

OP's question wasn't whether or not prosecutors have sent innocent people to jail, it was why prosecutors are condescendant towards Phoenix. They act like that because they win most other trials, regardless of weather or not the sentencing is actually correct or not.

From a story perspective, the game requires antagonists which is difficult when everyone ends up being a good guy

Prosecutors have their cases, witnesses and indictments set out in advance
Phoenix usually just goes into the courtroom entirely unprepared and picks at little inconsistent details until the case more or less unravels itself for him
everyone comments on this in-game including the judge

That's one (quite frankly emotionally unhinged) prosecutor out of the 4 or 5 others that perform incredibly well.
