Is a GTX 1060 6GB gonna cut it?

I’m thinking of getting a laptop with a 1060 6GB in it. Is this too weak for today’s standards?

depends what games you want to play and at what level of performance.

it's fine for 1080p

>a laptop with a 1060 6GB in it.
What??? How???

You're gonna regret it in a year.
1660 Ti minimum if you wanna play today's games.

This, the 1060 is barely even a mid tier card now. Also don't get a laptop unless you absolutely have to. They have terrible cooling which plays a bigger part in performance than you think.

It's a good card for a laptop, bought one 2 months ago. Anything better would be overkill bc of shit laptop cooling and overprice, you're better off just buying a decent PC then.

I have a 1070, and I'm still doing fine.

It's also the stronger card.

Yes it's great, I bought mine about 2 years ago able run most things on high settings

don't buy nvidia if you need a card in this low and midrange price point

That’s what I’m planning on

im thinking of getting
ASUS GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER Strix OC
is it gonna cut it?

>laptop
what a faggot

is there any compelling reason to upgrade from my 980ti at this point or should I wait another gen

>is a top tier last gen videocard gonna cut it
No motherfucker, get two of them

>laptop

they never learn, do they

1080 is the standard. RX 5700 is the future

Don't get the 1060, it's too weak these days

take away the thicc fan and heatsinke and it's just a thin plate with a few chips on it
now put on extra flat mobile fans and heatsink and it's done
though it will be loud as fuck

I've had my 1060 the last two years and it plays everything great, although I'm a 1080p 60FPS pleb that mostly plays VR games these days.
Also I wouldn't recommend a gaming laptop unless you travel a lot and don't have any other choice. If something goes wrong or you wanna upgrade in the future it's gonna be near impossible to make that laptop any better without straight up buying one that's more up to date.

I already own a decent pc I just travel a lot and want to be able to play while that happens

Also VR is more ideal with a laptop

unironic nvidia shills, don't listen to them OP - a 1060 6gb is absolutely fine, although I would be concerned about cooling in a laptop as other anons pointed out.

>1080 is the standard
For who the top 1% of steam users? 1060 is above average for a typical PC gamer

Gaming laptop is a meme. Laptop with GPU is a meme in general.

>Laptop
Please don't in 2 years when you can't upgrade and the system is a literal pile of shit you will regret spending 2 grand for something you barely use instead of 2 grand on something you can upgrade whenever you want.

For me, it's the RTX 2060 Gaming Z.

>660 Ti
yeah im getting by with that just fine

1060 owner here.

I also have a 2060 but it apparently smelled like burning in my last pc.

Should I be worried about installing it in my current pc for this reason?

It’s 600 I wouldn’t spend 2 grand on that much

I've yet to see a gaming laptop for 600 desu

it will play gen 8 games but not gen 9 games, forget about next gen games next year and on, enjoy your backlog, hope it starts from 2013 ^_^

>had 750
>upgraded to 1060 6gb
Everything is lookin good.

Imagine being a faggot who cares about the latest shit games.

>last gen
subtle bait

Hello?

>laptop

Don't buy the GTX 1060

Games are designed for new GPU architectures and Pascal will fall behind significantly
