I would say that is more praise for the artist that made those designs than Kojima himself. I imagine that Shinkawa had a lot of freedom to produce whatever he wanted and Kojima just told him whether he liked it or not and what he should change. I highly doubt that screw holes and precaution messages written on stuff were details specifically requested by Kojima.

Can't just attribute everything to Shinkawa, KJP has more artists working there than just Shinkawa, and Shinkawa isn't even a 3d art designer. He's certainly the king there, he's the man that comes up with the character designs and the mech ones, but those autistic details are most likely a joint effort between all the artists together as they make the 3d model.

Judging by the documentary and other times Shinkawa has spoken about working with Kojima, it does sound like he's pretty involved in the process.
I think they both understand their sensibilities very well, and clearly Yoji is a huge nerd that is into all the details, I mean just reading the studio works art book you can read all the little notes about the little specific things on character designs. It's pretty great.

I love how even the rifle is full of details like that. Like the warning signs and "For Varmint". I also love how it comes in a case you have to physically break if you want to use it. I assume it somehow limits you if you do end up breaking the case open, because then you'll have to carry the rifle using a holster and that'll take up more space than if it was just on your back with the other equipment.

I think the whole "revolutionary multiplayer" and "killing isn't the answer, players co-operating is" is going to end up being, you can complete the game's story, but there'll be some, maybe even significant objective, that will require all DS players to co-operate towards.

This is why I think Kojima said you can play offline just fine, but the game will be something extra if you're online.
